LYRICS TO THE THEME SONG

I can hear you now: "Lyrics? What theme song? The show's theme was just an instrumental!" Well, I have been finding out that there is a lot going on in international television that those of us in America can't even imagine. For example, after D&D finished its 3-year run in the U.S., it started airing in France--accompanied by this theme song. I don't know who wrote the words, and I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has, or can make, an audio file of the French theme. But for now, in the original and with a translation--

"The Smile of the Dragon"

Plus, courtesy of a correspondent named Paula, the lyrics of the French theme, as translated into Spanish--

ARTWORK BY VICTORIA BISHOP

A fine pastiche writer, a dedicated D&D fan and (as far as I can tell from a thousand miles away) a good all-around person, Ms. Bishop is also no mean artist. Here are some sketches she sent me a year ago (sorry about the delay in scanning and posting them):

Barbarian

Magician

Ranger

Thief

THE COMIC BOOK

I've heard from quite a few folks about this thing: an attempt by TSR to keep the characters from the TV show nominally alive by working them into a promotional comic book. This particular attempt at life support doesn't sound, shall we say, too successful. Of the various descriptions I've seen of the comic, the one by Kelly St. Clair is the most complete, and the best analysis of what went wrong.

THE COLORING BOOK

This appeared in 1983, with the premiere of the series; an ill-fated set of coloring books co-produced by TSR Games and Marvel. At first, it doesn't seem to have a thing to do with the adventures of our young band of heroic etc. etc., until you leaf through the books and see some old familiar faces: Kelek, the Wolfmaster from "Valley of the Unicorns"; Warduke, seen in "In Search of the Dungeon Master"; and Strongheart, who was trapped in Venger's "Prison of Agony". Plus, a panel that advertises the TV series (and just happens to be the right dimensions for a great banner). I promise to get these pages up as soon as I can get them scanned.
