The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
    "Mystery of the Amazon"
          by Jade Falcon
           Part One

Dr. Carter jumped. He could almost swear that something
moved in the bush behind him.
He shrugged it off and returned to his botanical find: a flower
not seen on the face of the planet in over sixty million years!
The bush moved again, but this time, what hid there stepped
into the clearing. Dr. Carter froze. He was looking at something
else that had also not been seen in over sixty million years.
And it was the last thing he ever saw.

   "Give it up, Jess!"
   "ln your dreams, Quest!"
Jessie pulled ahead and reached the main house a split-second
before Jonny did. She jumped down from her hoverboard.
   "l win."
   "Whatever."
Dr. Benton Quest and Race Bannon were waiting for them. Jonny,
seeing the dismayed look on his father's face, asked him, "What's
 up, Dad?"
Dr. Quest said nothing, but handed Jonny a clipped newspaper
article. Jonny read it aloud while Jessie read over his shoulder.
"Disappearance of world-famous botanist, Dr. Allen Carter,
in the Amazon rumored to be due to----! No way!"
Jessie took over "Due to strange, recent reports of 'giant lizards'
in the Amazon with physical descriptions similar to known found
 members of the group, Dinosauria."
Jonny thought for a moment "Dr.Carter....lsn't he the botanist you
 used to work with, Dad?"
For the first time, Dr. Quest spoke "Yes. But the article says
 'disappearance,' not death."
"And you want to go look for him, right?"
'' Yes. We leave tomorrow. Start packing.''

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
    "Mystery of the Amazon''
       by Jade Falcon
         Part Two

  ''l can't belive this.''
''Why, Jonny, getting tired already? We've only been here a week.''
  ''Jessie?''
  ''What?''
  ''Shut up.''
  ''Make me.''
  ''That's enough, you two.''
Race sighed ''Did we have to do this while Hadji was in Bangalore?''
''Sadly, yes. But he has his royal duties to attend to.''
Dr. Quest, Race, Jonny, and Jessie were in a Jeep, slowly running
through the thick forest. Jonny and Jessie were in the back, arguing.
An ear-splitting screech sliced through the air, startling everyone.
Jessie covered her ears ''What was that??''
''Hey, Dad! Do any of those 'giant lizard' reports apply to this area
of the rainforest?''
''Huh?'' Jessie asked. Jonny tapped her shoulder and pointed behind
the Jeep. Jessie followed his gaze, and her eyes grew wide. ''Uh, Dr.
Quest? If there are none of those reports here, l think we better make
one.''
Dr. Quest and Race turned around, and saw a small, carnivorous
dinosaur, about five feet tall, chasing the Jeep.
''Uh, Jess? What do you call that?''
''Troodon*, l think. Late Cretatious. But troodons are only three feet
tall!''
''WHAT?! That thing is a dinosaur?!''
''Yep. And just our luck, too. That is one of the more dangerous
breeds.''
  ''Dangerous?''
''Worse than Velociraptor, or even Stenonychosaurus**.''
''Great. We've got a killing machine on our tail.''
''You might say that. But it's killing machines, plural. They hunt in
packs.''
As if on cue, five more troodons leaped out of the underbrush.
''You have the best timing, you know that Jess.''
  ''Shut up.''
Race floored the Jeep, but the troodons were still gaining on them. Race
stopped the Jeep. ''Everybody out! Scatter!''
Everyone did as Race had said.
Jessie ran through the woods, one troodon pursued her. She heard a
blood-curtling screech, and felt a sharp blow to her head. The world went
white, then black.

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
   ''Mystery of the Amazon''
        by Jade Falcon
        Part Three

Jonny had taken a similar way as Jessie, with two troodons
in pursuit.
He jumped over logs, ducked under thorn bushes, and ran
right through the thickest bushes, but nothing seemed to
slow the troodons down. They followed him through every
obstacle.
Jonny heard a swoosh and two painful shrieks. He felt a sharp
blow to the back of his head, and fell, unconscious.

He woke up facedown in the dirt. He quickly rolled onto his back,
to see a pair of large brown eyes staring back at him. He jumped to his
feet to see that they belonged to a creature who stood six feet tall
on four legs. lts neck and tail were very long, with a small rudder
on its tail. It had five spikes going down the length of the back of its
neck, with a small horn at the base of the front of its neck, looking
somewhat like an eight turned sideways. lt topped off a fearsome
display of spikes that covered its entire chest, spike points down,
so not to stab anything in front of it. lts head and snout were long
and narrow, much like a troodon's. lt had a gentle smile and soft,
brown eyes, despite its fearsome appearance.
lts wings, now folded, were at least four times as long as the creature,
and it was at least twelve feet long! The wings were not like what
Jonny expected, scaly and bat-like, but they were feathered and
bird-like, with the exeption of a small claw on the middle of the
top of the wing. The wings themselves were orange, with rainbow
colored flightfeathers, which seemed appropriate for this creature,
being that it, too, was multicolored, with the exception of the tail
rudder,
the horn on its neck, the spikes on its chest, a small area on the
underside of its wings, the claw on its wings, and the claws on his
hands and feet, which were yellow. lts legs and arms were a dull
brown.
To Jonny, this thing looked like a dragon.
He screamed and slowly backed away. The dragon screamed
in, to Jonny's surprise, a very humanlike voice. This must mean it
can talk, too, Thought Jonny. He decided to try it '' Why'd you scream,
too?''
The dragon looked at him blankly for a moment, but responded '' l
screamed
only because you startled me. lt is not every day we Saurians*** see a
human.''
''Yeah, well it's not every day we humans see a dragon.''

*TROODON: (TROH-oh-don) A small theropod, about three feet tall, Troodon,
when in its normal pack-hunting, could easily bring down prey up to five
times
its size.

**STENONYCHOSAURUS: (STEN-oh-NY-cho-SAW-rus) A very close relative
of Troodon, Stenonychosaurus was another small, pack-hunting theropod
capable of bringing down prey much larger than itself.

***SAURIAN: (SAW-ri-AN) A dinosaur suborder, but in the case of my story,
the name of a clan.

(((Troodon & Stenonychosaurus from part two, forgot to put them in.)))

''You are a dragon, aren't you?''
''Well, to humans, yes. My name is lsthilli''
   ''Uh, Jonny Quest.''
''l see...Jonny...And who is your friend?'' lsthilli nodded towards
Jessie, who, up until now, Jonny hadn't noticed. She was just beginning
 to wake up.
   ''She's Jessie Bannon.''
Jessie slowly tried to get up. Jonny helped her into a standing
 position.
When she saw lsthilli, she tensed. ''lf you're a dinosaur, we haven't
 discovered
 your kind yet.''
''According to Jonny, l am not a dinosaur at all. Humans call my kind a
 dragon.
But do not worry...Jessie...l do not wish to harm either of you.''
Jessie slowly relaxed ''How did you find us?''
''l saw you being chased by Elana's thugs, as it was foretold, and l
knew
 l had to
help. l...brought them out of work, and brought you two to safety.
Forgive
 me for
the fact that l relieved you of your consiousness, but it was to ensure
 your
 cooperation.''
''So, you knocked us out so we wouldn't struggle?''
''Yes, Jonny. lt was unorthidox, l know, but it was for your own
good.''
''Whoa, time out. l know you saved us, l'll buy that. But what do you
 mean,
 'As it was foretold'?''
''Well, Jessie, it will be hard for you to understand, I know, but you
 two are
 fortold in our legends.''

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
   ''Mystery of the Amazon''
     by Jade Falcon
      Part Five

''Whoa, back up. You mean to tell us we're in your legends?''
''Yes Jessie. 'The Saurian Legends of Cryol', a wise Stenonychosaurus
who was rumored to be able to predict the future. Up until now, the
legends were considered myths.''
''How do you know it's us?''
''Quite simple, Jonny. Cryol foretold them to be human teenagers,
looking much like the Samurai decendants at the time. When Cryol
spoke of this, Saurian royalty went out to tell the Samurai of what
he had said. The Samurai accepted, and we have been allies to this
day. l am friends with the Samurai. Thier names are Kitfox, who resembles
you, Jessie, and Direwolf, who is much like you, Jonny (With one exeption,
of course). But you will need a place to stay for the night. Come, l will
take
you to my palace.''
  ''Your palace?''
''Yes, Jonny. l am the Saurian king''
''What? Why didn't you tell us earlier?!''
''l hate being treated like royalty, Jonny. The pampering and serving
drives me mad.
l like to get things for myself, not having them handed to me on a silver
platter. My
servants treat me like they would anyone else. l do not sit at the head of
the table,
l hardly ever give commands, and if l wasn't bound by law to live in the
palace, l
would live anywhere else but the palace.''
  ''One question.''
  ''Yes, Jessie?''
  ''Who's Elana?''
lsthlli growled ''Elana is the Pterosaurian Clan queen. A large and
powerful
Quetzalcoatlus*,she is very ruthless and selfish. Now come. On my back,
both of you. we will fly to the palace. With Elana's men everywhere, it
will
be too dangerous to walk.''
Jonny climbed on Istilli's back, heped Jessie up behind him, and grabbed
Istilli's shoulders.
lsthilli spread his wings, and started off at a trot. He went from trot to
gallop,
to run, to an all-out sprint. He spread his wings and leaped off the
ground, pounding
the air furiously. Jessie shut her eyes.
In seconds, they had cleared the treetops, and lsthilli still rose
higher, until they
had risen above the low-hanging clouds. The sun had long gone down, and the
moon
and millions of stars were out.
''Hey, Jess! Great view up here! Check it out!''
''l will, when we're back on the ground.''
As if taking Jessie's cue, lsthilli dove into the clouds at an angle so
steep, even
Jonny cloed his eyes and tightened his grip on lsthilli's shoulders.
When he opened them again, what he saw took his breath away.
