This is the last chapter you'll see in some time (at least
until my exams are over, sometime next week). Don't worry, I
will finish this as soon as I can!
Disclaimer: I don't own all of these characters! HB owns Jonny
and the rest of the cast from JQ:TRA. I'm not
making any money at all with this, but I'm having
fun!

Synopsis: A look at what might have been?
Archivers: Go ahead!
Jonny got a small surprise on his last date:
All night long, he had taken brief looks to Liz's eyes. They
were green, but they were a familiar shade of green. He had realized
it when she had kissed him. That's when he had recognized the eyes.
They were the green eyes of the girl that appeared in his
dreams.
Jonny had no idea of what was going on, but he was starting
to feel afraid.
Confused? You haven't read nothing yet!

*********************************
Trivial moments...
Both of them as eight years old, climbing a tree...
Helping an old woman to clean up the mess in the kitchen...
The red haired girl pursuing him and Hadji with a bucket of
water...
Both of them raiding a snowmobile trough a beautiful winter
scene...
And he facing her, surrounded by a sea of mist, his lips close
to hers...
The scenes came one after another. A swirling mix of images,
sounds, emotions... And the only constant in all of them was her.
Then the pain started. He felt as if something was trying to
get her away from him. Everything he had dreamt was going away from
him. But he wouldn't allow that. He stretched, tried to grab her...
And the images came back to him. But this time they were
stronger, faster...
And a last image. Her wet hair falling on her back, small water
drops glistening in the sun like small diamonds floating in the middle
of the air, surrounding a stream of liquid fire.
Jonny Quest woke up again, as confused as he had been when he
had gone to sleep.
"Jonny?"
He yawned mightly before answering. "Come in, Hadj. It's open."
Hadji Singh entered into his brother's bedroom. He had a
diskette in his hand. When Jonny noticed it, his blue eyes sparkled
with a little hope.
"Is that what I think it is?"
Hadji nodded.
"How did you found it?"
"Sheer luck. I logged into a Internet Search Engine and
looked for Jessica Bannon, green eyes, red hair."
"You are kidding."
Hadji shook his head. "No my friend, I swear. I found out
a single entry of a girl that lives in Colombia." He handed him the
diskette. "But I don't know if you are going to like this."
"What does that mean?"
"Why don't you take a look at the data?"
Jonny shrugged and turned on his laptop. An umconfortable
silence filled the room as the system booted up. A couple of minutes
later, the familiar interface of Quest Enterprises appeared into the
screen, telling Jonny the computer was ready to receive any commands.
During all that time, Hadji had not spoken a word.
The spooky feeling he had felt as he left Liz's house last
night was returning to him.
He inserted the diskette. A familiar image appeared.
She looked somewhat younger. Fourteen, maybe thirteen years
old. But it was her, alright. The green emerald eyes that pierced
trhough his soul...
"It's her!" he shouted. He turned around to Hadji. "I was not
insane! She exists!"
Hadji nodded slowly. "Yes, my friend. She existed."
The smile dissappeared in Jonny's face.
"What do you mean?"
Jonny watched the computer screen again, and this time he read
the words below the picture. He felt how his blood froze in his veins.
He wasn't aware of how much time had ellapsed. The info Hadji
had found had shocked him so much that the moments after that were
only a blurred image.
Somehow, he had gone back to his bed. And when all his senses
finally returned, Fred was at his side.
"Hey, Questman. What happened to you?"
"Fred... How? How long have you been here?"
"Only a couple of minutes. Liz called me and told me she didn't
think you were feeling well. So here I am. What's wrong?"
Jonny sat up on the bed. He felt a small dizzyness for a little
while, but it vanished soon.
"Fred, you won't believe this..."
"...but I know who the blue eyed boy is."
Jessie froze. "You what?"
Estella handed her a magazine as she sitted at her side on the
couch. An old copy of Time Magazine.
In the cover, there was a red haired man with a beard and white
hair on his temples. His name was Benton Quest.
The name ringed a bell in Jessie's head.
"I think I've heard his name before."
Estella nodded. "He has assisted to some archeological
conferences, sometimes as a speaker, sometimes as a listener."
Jessie opened the magazine and looked at the main article.
A huge photo of Dr. Quest and his family stared back at her.
And there, between Benton Quest and his wife, there was the
misterious blue eyed boy.
"Jonny." she whispered. Then she looked at the text under the
picture.
Indeed, his name was Jonathan Quest.
"This is him, mother!"
"I know. You have met him before."
Jessie stared at her. "You are kidding."
Estella laughed. "No, really! You were like... what? Eight years
old or so. He came to a convention here just as I was starting my work
in the Malenque ruins."
Jessie looked at the pictures, then she tried to remember.
Yes, now everything was coming back to her... She remembered him now.
A young seven year old kid with deep blue eyes...
She smiled. "I think you are right. Funny that he is popping
up in my dreams, though..."
That night, Jessie slept peacefully. She was still worried
about the boy in her dreams, but not as much as before.
"A bomb?"
Jonny nodded. "No one knows who planted it. It destroyed the
car almost completely. And this girl... She died on the explosion."
The young blonde saw how his friend shivered. "Weird, uh?"
Fred couldn't do anything but mumble a "Yes."
Silence filled the room for a couple of moments until Fred
broke the tension. "So what are you going to do?"
Jonny sighed and laid back on his bed. "I don't know. I
suppose there is no use in looking for her, now..."
That night, Jonny fell asleep thinking about those events.
He still didn't have a logical explanation, but his father would come
home tomorrow and then everything would be fine... His last concious
tought before vanishing into his dreams was that Liz's eyes were still
green...
Two kids ran trough the house, ignoring the intense heat that
saturated the morning. He was laughing. She was chasing him, her
face still wet from the water balloon he had thrown at her. She
almost had him now... She stretched her hand to grab him, but it
found something else instead. Nevertheless, she pulled the tail of
the stuffed tiger as strong as she could, trying to grab a hostage...
The small animal flew by the air and fell at her feet. The seam
between the tail and the body opened. She noticed it first. She quickly
tried to hid it but the boy, who had stopped running, had already seen
it.
She apologized while the boy tried to hold back the tears.
He grabbed the tiger and ran away. She found him later under their
tree. But now she was carrying a needle and some thread. Reluctantly,
he had given her the tiger. Soon it was 'cured' and the boy had
smiled at her. "Friends forever?" he asked. "Friends forever" she
said, as they hooked their pinkies together.
Of course, the stitch didn't last long... But by then someone
else had taken care of the tiger's wound. A red haired woman Jessie
recognized as her own mother...
Oh, and the tiger had a name. It was Tommy.
Dead.
She was dead.
No, she wasn't. There was no way she could be dead!!!!
His mind screamed. He suddenly remembered those times he
had tought she had been lost to him... And she had survived every
single time. Every single time!! She couldn't be dead!
And then she remembered hugging her, kissing her on the
cheek and then handling her a small box... In it there was a small
golden necklace. She gasped. Many months of his allowance were
invested on that gift and surely she knew that. She flashed him a
smile that would have vanished the sun... "You shouldn't have bought
this." "Hey, you don't turn sixteen everyday..."
You don't turn sixteen everyday....
Sixteen everyday...
Sixteen...
She was sixteen now. The girl in the picture had died when
she was fourteen!
She wasn't dead! She couldn't be dead!
And then he woke up.
And he remembered.
He remembered her hair and how it smelled like strawberries
and her eyes and how they shone when she was happy and her smile and
how it warmed him when he was worried...
And he remembered glimpses of another life. He remembered a
great loss when he was very young and how his father had cried for
almost a week and how there were a lot of strange people protecting
him until that man with white hair had come to his come...
And with him, the green eyed girl.
Jessica Bannon... daughter of a woman who lived in Colombia.
Jonny was afraid, very afraid. For a little moment, he tought
he was slowly going insane, but the thought was quickly dismissed.
He knew he was right.
And then he knew this was something he should be do alone.
He had to face this by himself... He would talk with his father first
thing in the morning. And even if he didn't agree, he would do so
anyway.
Tomorrow he would go to Colombia and make sense out of this
mess.
To be continued!
