The cloaking device is strong enough to mask the massive warp signature created by the Defiant during warp flight. It is an ordinary device but when the Defiant is cloaked, it is virtually impossible to detect.

The Defiant is a very COOL ship. It was designed to counter the Borg threat. But was put in drydock when the threat became less urgent. But now with the new threat from the Dominion, It was put under the command of Captain Benjamin Sisko. It is classified as an Escort ship but is a Warship nonetheless. On lease from the Romulan Star Empire is a cloaking device for the Defiant which is an unprecedented move considering the treaty of Algeron. All in all the Defiant ROCKS!.
