Mistaken Identity

Chapter 4

Setting: Port Charles Airport

While Jax and Brenda are arguing at the Townhouse, Jerry and Miranda are onboard Jerry's Cessna. They left Port Charles after Brenda caught them in bed.

In their haste, they failed to notice a woman at the airport taking careful note of where they were going. "Suanne, its Sid. Jerry and Mirandead are headed towards Los Angeles. The FAA says they filed a flight plan to the Santa Monica airport. They're probably headed to the beach house in Malibu. We need some help from the West Coast PICs."

"Yeah, I know of several PIC in the area who can help us. As a matter of fact, I'm on my way there on a *business* trip. I'll have someone intercept them at the airport. A couple others can infiltrate the household staff. And I'll be there to coordinate things." Suanne tells Sid, from the PIC command center in Washington DC.

Setting: On Jerry's Airplane

"That wasn't a smart thing you did, Jerry. That little tramp Brenda is such a hot head, she's going to run straight to Jax and accuse him of sleeping with me." Miranda says, concerned how Jax will react to her going to bed with his brother. His anger could mess up her future plans. He was still furious at her for letting him believe she was dead. And for some reason he was angry at HER for telling him that Brenda had been unfaithful.

"I told you, I'll call Jax later and explain." Jerry tells her.

"Explain? How? Are you going to tell your brother that you've been sleeping with his wife all of these years behind his back? He'll hate you for it. He's still angry about your keeping me a secret." Miranda says.

"I'll tell him the truth. He deserves to hear it. All of it." Jerry tells her, leaving no room for debate.

"We'll see about that." Miranda mutters under her breath.

Setting: in Bensonhurst

"You go to bed with your first wife and you want to discuss it calmly? I don't believe you! You, know, Jax, I don't understand you at all. I thought that you were committed to this marriage. I guess I was wrong, huh?" Brenda cries.

"I DID WHAT? WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET THAT IDEA?" Jax cries in disbelief.

"Huh?" Brenda cries out, then turns away. She turns back, saying, "Where do you think, Jax? I SAW you. You know that, there's no use denying it."

"Wait, wait, I don't understand. What did you see? I've been in New York all day, and the only woman I saw all day was Addy and I can assure you that Addy and I have never......" Jax says, trying to piece together what Brenda is telling him.

"That wasn't Addy I saw you with Jax, unless you've started giving dictation in bed!" Brenda cries.

"What? I don't understand what you're talking about Brenda. I have never been unfaithful to you, I...." Jax tries to explain. He thinks hard, but can't think of anything he'd done that would give Brenda the idea that he'd been having an affair, especially with Miranda.

"Don't start acting like you have amnesia, Jax. Jason is much better at it. I saw you, wearing nothing but silk boxers, standing by OUR bed with Miranda, stark naked. Clothes thrown all over the bed room. The bed all rumpled. Now do you remember?" Brenda asks sarcastically.

Jax thinks quickly. "Me? In bed with Miranda? Impossible, but Brenda seems so certain. What could have happened?"

"Brenda, that wasn't me. I promise you...." Jax starts to explain.

"I don't want to hear it, Jax!" Brenda interrupts.

Just then, Gloria Cerullo comes to visit. She finds Brenda and Jax arguing in the living room, while Lois is nowhere in sight.

"What's going on?" Gloria asks.

"Absolutely nothing." Brenda says.

"I can see that." Gloria responds dryly.

"Personal business, Mrs. Cerullo." Jax tells her.

The three stand around awkwardly. Jax and Brenda do not want to finish their discussion in front of Gloria. "Where's Lois?" Gloria asks.

"With the baby." Jax and Brenda reply together.

Just then, Lois calls out down the stairs "Ma? Could you come up here for a minute? I need to talk to you about something." Gloria starts to head for the stairs.

"Don't bother, Gloria. Jax was just leaving. Weren't you *darling*?" Brenda sneers.

"No, I wasn't." Jax responds, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Well, then I am." Brenda says, grabbing her coat and darting out the door.

"Brenda, wait!" Jax calls out, dashing after his wife.

Chapter 5

Time: The next day

Setting: New York City

Jax has searched frantically for Brenda after she ran out of the townhouse, but she is nowhere to be found. He'd called everyone he could think of, even Corinthos, who didn't know where she was. At least, he *said* he didn't. Lois hadn't been able to find her either. He had even called Julia in London, but she hadn't seen Brenda. All Julia did was talk about how Brenda was so immature and inconsiderate, and how it was just like her to run off without a word. "I can see why Brenda doesn't like to talk to her sister. First she couldn't make time to come to the wedding, and now this." Jax says to himself.

Setting: PIC Headquarters - Washington, DC

"I'm sorry, Suanne," Holly and Oceangirl said, talking into a speaker phone. "We've looked everywhere. She's nowhere to be found."

"Therese, Catherine, Natalie, Sheila, and Amy haven't had any luck searching for her in Canada either. And the west coast PICs say she isn't there either. We have to find her and reunite her with Jax. The situation in Los Angeles is turning critical. My spies tell me that Miranda has convinced Jerry not to tell Jax the truth yet. Sarah, Lidia and Kathy are in place at the beach house, but so far Miranda hasn't left his side. No one's been able to get close to him because of her. We have got to do something about her. AND find Brenda. We need more partners involved. Leave that to me. My flight leaves for LAX in an hour. I'll call you when I get there." Suanne says

Setting: In Malibu, California

Meanwhile, Jerry and Miranda are enjoying some Southern California sunshine at the Jacks' home in Malibu. Everyday Miranda has insisted on going shopping. "I think we must have hit every designer shop in Southern California" Jerry thinks, as he waits for Miranda to model yet another new outfit he'd bought her. Miranda's constant demands for money, clothes and attention are getting on his nerves. What did Jax ever see in her? To top it all of, Jerry suspected that she was only interested in using him to get to Jax. "Nobody treats me this way. Time to walk." Jerry thinks. Besides, that cute little maid back at the beach house was always trying to get his attention. In fact, she was outside in the hallway right now, staring at him.

Miranda comes out of the bed room. "What do you think of this one, Jerry?" she asks, hands on her hips, modeling her new dress for him.

"Its fine." he responds, glancing over at the maid across the room, rather than at Miranda.

"Jerry! You aren't even looking at me." Miranda cries petulantly. Miranda had had Jerry buy her all of these things to win Jax back. Afterall, Jax was, for some unknown reason, attracted to that model. "Well, if that's the kind of woman that Jax is attracted to now, that's what I'll be." Miranda says to herself, unable to repress a slight shudder at the thought.

Jerry glances over at Miranda briefly, then turns to look at the maid again. Doing a double-take, his head snaps back to Miranda. "Good Lord, That's what you bought?" he asks, eyeing frothy pink gown.

"What? You don't like it?" Miranda asks, looking down at her dress.

"Not particularly. You look like you're going to a prom. You're not 18 years old anymore, Miranda." Jerry responds with a downward quirk of his lips.

"Well, I like it. The sales girl said it was all the rage. And I think its sexy." Miranda says, turning and going back in the bed room.

"Whatever." Jerry answers, not really paying attention to her. Miranda had become incredibly demanding since they'd landed in Los Angeles. Then he shakes his head, wondering about this strange mood he's been in lately. "Now that Jax is married again, I'm the world's most elusive bachelor, and here I am playing house with a shrew. Enough is enough." Jerry tells himself.

Jerry walks over to the maid, who is standing behind the counter. "How would you like to see the sunset over the New York skyline?" he asks the girl.

"Don't you even want to know my name?" She asks flirtatiously.

"It would have to be a beautiful name to belong to someone as beautiful as you." Jerry tells her, leaning towards her.

"Sarah." She tells him, with a big smile.

"Sarah, that's a lovely name." Jerry says. With a devilish gleam in his eye, and a boyish grin, he takes her hand in his and begins to sing.

"Go now. Don't look back, we've drawn the line.

Move on, its no good to go back in time.

I'll never find another girl like you.

For happiness it takes two.

With fire and ice, the dream won't come true."

Sarah looks around the room, embarrassed and afraid that one of the other PIC will see her. "This man may be rich and gorgeous, but he's a total lunatic. Or maybe he's just eccentric." she thinks.

Jerry has continued singing,

"Sarah, Sarah...storms are the wind in your eyes.

Sarah, Sarah...no time is a good time for goodbyes."

"But you haven't even kissed me yet." Sarah protests. Jerry stops singing, reaches out and takes Sarah by the shoulders. Without warning he kisses her passionately on the mouth. She stiffens in shock for a moment, but soon melts into his arms.

Just then Miranda comes out of the bedroom in another dress and looks around for Jerry. She notices him kissing the maid. "OH!" she exclaims loudly, hurrying over to them.

"JERRY! What are you doing?" she screeches at him, pulling them apart.

"What does it look like I'm doing?" he asks her, taking Sarah's hand and pulling her towards the door with him. "I'm walking, that's what." he tells Miranda.

With Jerry's attention divided, Kathy whispers frantically to Sarah from the hallway. "Sarah, what are you doing? Suanne is on her way, and she expects results when she gets here. She does NOT expect to find you in a lip-lock with Jerry. Or to find you in New York."

Jerry looks back at Sarah, strokes her cheek, and resumes singing,

"Danger in the game when the stakes are high.

Branded. My heart was branded while my senses stood by.

I'll never find.....Love me like no one has ever loved me before.

Oh Sarah, hurt me. No one could ever hurt me more.

Oh Sarah. Sarah, oh Sarah."

Sarah smiles at Jerry, "What the hell," she thinks. "He's gorgeous, rich and fun. A girl has to live sometime. Suanne did say to get close to Jerry and separate him from Miranda." They walk out of the beach house together, leaving Miranda and Kathy in shock.

Unaware that his brother's wife is still missing, or that Suanne is on her way to Los Angeles to meet with him, Jerry heads back to New York with Sarah.

Chapter 6

Setting: the Jacks Family Malibu Beach House

Suanne has arrived at the Jacks' beach house. She is met at the door by to PIC members, Kathy and Lidia. "Where's Sarah?" Suanne asks.

"Well, she ..... um, she....left." Kathy stammers out.

"Left? She knew I was coming. Where did she go? Did something happen with Jerry and Miranda?" Suanne asks, confused.

"You could say that." Lidia says, not able to meet Suanne's eyes.

Suddenly there is loud crash, and the sound of glass breaking from inside the beach house. "I hate him. I hate him!!!!" they women hear Miranda shriek as yet another glass object is shattered.

Suanne crosses her arms over her chest, tilts her head down so that her glasses slide to the end of her nose, and looks over the rims at Kathy and Lidia (doing her best impression of a school teacher). "All right, what happened?" she asks.

Kathy and Lidia look at each other. They figure they might as well tell. Surely Suanne wouldn't be angry with them - Sarah was the one who ran off with Jerry. They had tried to stop her, but she wouldn't listen.

"Well,....... Jerry left and Sarah is keeping an eye on him." Lidia says.

"Left? You mean he walked out on Miranda? All right! Maybe that will teach her a lesson about manipulating people's feelings." Suanne says, just as another large crash and more swearing is heard from the bedroom. "Then again, maybe not." Suanne says with a grin.

"This is what you were afraid to tell me? That Jerry left and Sarah followed him? What's wrong with that? After all, I did tell Sarah to keep an eye on Jerry." Suanne says, not sure why Kathy and Lidia are looking nervous.

"Sarah didn't exactly....follow....him." Lidia says.

"Yeah, she left WITH him. She's the reason he left Miranda." Kathy chimes in, as more crashes are heard from the bed room.

"She did WHAT???!!!!" Suanne shrieks.

Setting: The Jacks' penthouse in New York

Later that day, the door to the penthouse opens, and Sarah runs quickly down the hallway, looking back over her shoulder, nearly knocking a Ming vase off its pedestal as she rushes past. Jerry follows close behind her. "You can run, but you can't hide." he calls out, knocking the vase over. He watches it smash on the hardwood floor. "Oh well, I'll buy Lady Jane a new one." he thinks as he continues his pursuit.

Jerry catches up with Sarah in the living room, tackling her. "I win!" he cries as they land, laughing, on the sofa.

"What do you win?" Sarah asks, breathless. "Jerry is just as exciting, fun and good looking as Jax" she thinks.

"I win the most beautiful girl in the world," Jerry tells her.

"Me?" Sarah asks breathlessly, dazzled by the suddenness of it all -- Jerry's entry into her life, his sweeping her off to Manhattan. She pinches him lightly.

"You don't believe any of this, do you?" Jerry laughs as he takes her hand and kisses the fingers that had pinched him. "Well, believe it. There's a lot you don't know about me yet. All the Jacks family is like this -- we see what we want and then we relentlessly pursue it until its ours. In the meantime, however....." Jerry adds, leaning down and kissing Sarah passionately.

Setting: A street corner in New York City

It has been two days since Brenda ran away from Jax. Still angry and hurt, she's wandered around New York City, hoping to hide her grief with a huge shopping spree. But even new clothes, shoes and an emerald necklace with matching bracelet and earrings can't mend a broken heart. No matter how hard she tries she cannot forget Jax' betrayal. "I don't know what hurts more," she tells herself, "his having an affair with Miranda or his lying about it." She walks down the street, but the tears in her eyes make it hard to see. She does not see the teenaged boy following her.

Brenda screams as she is suddenly hit from behind. Brenda is knocked to the pavement as the boy grabs her purse and runs off. The other pedestrians don't seem to notice, or don't care. Brenda stands up, dusting herself off. She looks around for the boy, but he is nowhere to be seen. She picks her packages up off the ground. The other pedestrians just walk around her.

"Now what am I going to do?" Brenda asks herself in disgust. "No money, no credit cards, no nothing. And I am NOT going to call Jax like some helpless little girl. Jax is probably having Lois' place watched, so I can't go there. I'm not about to go crawling back to Sonny and listen to him tell me that he was right about Jax all along."

An idea hits Brenda as suddenly as the mugger did. "Jax has an apartment in Manhattan. Since I've never been there before its the last place he'd look for me. The only problem is - I'm not sure where it is."

"I can't call anyone to ask them - they might tell Jax." Brenda thinks. "But.....if someone ELSE were to ask....." Brenda walks quickly down the street until she finds what.....or rather who....she's looking for.
