Hi All:
OK - I have to admit, I have been VERY silent except for a select few about what's been happening with the Swamp Thing TV Series Fan Club. I have had some very serious family problems for the past few months and even though I have done a lot, its been hard to keep everyone abreast of what I HAVE done.
Let me take an opportunity now to get you all up dated. If some of this info is old hat to my near and dear friends, forgive me.
In May of last year I was given permission by Boris Malden of BBK Productions to start a fan club for the TV Series Swamp Thing. I also heard from a man named Robert Winford, who although not associated with Swampy while it was on, is now associated with BBK Productions in trying to get Swampy BACK on the air.
With official sanctioning I went full swing into getting information for the fan club. I first went about plagiarizing Fran White's wonderful site. I gobbled up info that she had, added some that I had found out on my own and dove head first into Robyn King-Nitchke's Mark Lindsay Chapman site. I then put it all together over several months, gathered other info such as a complete listing of web sites, added a welcome letter and ending instructions on how to contact people and I was on my way.
I submitted my "draft" to Fran and Robyn who both graciously checked it for spelling, grammar and information accuracy. After correcting the "errors", making additions and deletions, and generally tuning up the "Welcome Booklet", I then needed a cover photo page. My prayers were answered in the person of JJ Arrows, who while on line with me on AOL "whipped up" a photo montage for me to use in about 1/2 an hour. I printed this off, LOVED it and printed a final draft of the booklet. We are now into November.
During this time, many, many exciting things happened. I was lucky enough to be contacted by several former crew members of Swamp Thing and several of them were AOL members. I asked one person that had become a good friend if I could "interview" him one evening. Did I every get a surprise. Not only did my friend (Dan) come into the private room, but he also brought three other former crew members, including Mark Lindsay Chapman's stunt double! What a coup that was for me!
Dan and the other gentlemen gave me a "cheerful little earful" about the antics that went on during the filming of Swampy. Mr. Chapman's stunt double, Felippe, sent me his phone number and told me to call him. He gave me a pretty good insight as to what went on during the filming of the series. Dan (who was a sound intern at the time and worked on the last 50 episodes) sent me a copy of his favorite script (That's A Wrap), several pictures he took while working on Swampy (which will be used for the future Newsletters to the members) and a listing of former Swamp Thing crew members.
Now to the present. I have been looking for the agents of Scott Garrison, Carrel Myers and Kevin Quigley. I have called SAG (Screen Actors Guild) but to no avail. I DID find Mark Lindsay Chapman's new agent and have written to them twice. In the first letter which went out on November 24, I told them (and Mr. Chapman) about the push for the series revival, the series Fan Club and asked if he were interested. I then sent a second letter three weeks later with a copy of the final draft of the Fan Club booklet and asked if there were any changes/deletions/corrections they or he would like to make before the advertising goes out to the magazines. To date I have not heard from either the agency OR Mr. Chapman, but you do have to remember, he is in a hit movie right now and may be busy with promotions.
In December, my husband and I went on vacation to Disneyworld in Florida and Fran White met us there. Fran, myself and my wonderful, understanding husband went to Universal Studios in Orlando and personally dropped off copies of the Fan Club booklet for Boris Malden and Robert Winford at BBK. The day we left for vacation, I sent a copy of the booklet to Steven Sears in California at his request to review it also.
Again, to date. I have not heard anything from anyone. I have Robert Winford's phone number at Universal and I will call him this week. I have emailed Boris Malden, Robert Winford and Steven Sears asking them their opinion of the Fan Club booklet.
As of this past week, I sent a letter to Tyne Daly (who guest starred on a ep of Swampy and produced a play that Mark Chapman was in and for which he won a Drama Logue award) asking her to tell me what it was like to work on Swampy and with Mr. Chapman. She is appearing in a play in Ct. and I sent it via Priority Mail (to get her attention) to the theatre. I also sent a copy to Dan who is working on the "Magnificent Seven" TV series right now with Tom Allen who was the sound supervisor on Swampy.
Now we wait. Right now I have done everything humanly possible to find as many people connected with Swamp Thing as I can. It does not matter though who I can or can't get in touch with. The club will go forward. If I hear from anyone (especially Mark Chapman or Dick Durock) all the better. But if I don't the advertising goes out to the magazines I have chosen on February 1 as planned and the booklet goes to the printer (yeah, ok, so it's the Copy Center at Staples) when the response starts coming in.
So there you have it. Probably more information than you ever needed (or wanted) about the Swampy Fan club. I hope to hear from all of you. If anyone has anything they would like to add or any suggestions they have, PLEASE email me. I need all the help I can get!!!
I know this has been a long letter, but I have just given you 9 months worth of work in a nutshell.
On a personal note to Robyn, Fran and JJ - I know I have said this to all of you individually at different times, but now that I have EVERYBODY'S attention - Thank all of you for the time and tremendous amount of effort and work you have put in for me to help make this happen. We are down to the wire and as my husband (the football nut) says: 4th down and goal to go!!!
With warmest regards to all.......
