SYNOPSIS
This
series featured handsome Gardner McKay as Adam
Troy, the captain of a free-lance schooner sailing the South Pacific in
search of passengers, cargo and adventure. Troy was a Korean War veteran
who had found the Pacific to his liking. His schooner, the Tiki,
sailed across Hong Kong to Pitcairn Island with all kinds of schemers,
adventurers and beautiful island girls aboard. Troy's
original partner was a Chinese-American name Oliver Lee. In 1960, he hired
a first mate named Clay Baker. The following season, Clay became the manager
of the Bali Miki Hotel, replacing Trader Penrose and Chris Parker became
Troy's new first mate.
James A. Michener
created Adventures in Paradise and sold the original idea to television, but
then he apparently dropped out of the project. Critics complained that the series contained none of the
scripting one would expect from such an eminent author. Even the sets looked
like the 20th Century Fox back lot - which it was - though after a couple years, some
location filming was
actually done in the South Pacific.
