SYNOPSIS

Jim McClain was forced to retire from the San Pedro, California police force 13 years ago at the age of 39, with a leg injury.

In the following years he worked as a fisherman and lived in a houseboat. When his fishing buddy was robbed and murdered, Jim fought to have himself reinstated, convinced that he could find the killer.

Despite the antagonism of his new boss, Lt. DeNisco, Cary proved himself in the new, high-tech world of police work. He quickly gained the respect of the younger officers, including his new partner Harry Gates and fellow officer Jerry Gross. Fortunately for McClain, most of the other officers looked the other way when he reverted to the old-fashioned, physical-style of apprehending a suspect.

Vangie Cruise ran the dockside cafe where McClain spent much of his off-duty time.
