SYNOPSIS
Based upon the novel by Mac Hyman which was turned into a hit play in 1955 and then into a movie in 1958 that both starred Andy Griffith, this series revolved around a simple-minded but resourceful hillbilly who found a new world to conquer in the Air Force.
Airman Will Stockdale didn't have much in the way of rank, but he always seemed to be making things better at the Oliver Air Force Base. For example, in the opening episode, he was assigned to permanent K.P. duty, where the food in the mess hall improved so much that the officers began eating there right alongside the enlisted men! When the Colonel inspected the kitchen, he discovered that Will had been trading with the local farmers for choice meat and produce. It wasn't so much the fact that he was trading with the farmers as it was what Will had been trading away that upset the Colonel - very important (and expensive) military equipment!
Sgt. King was Will's skeptical Commanding Officer, Ben was his best friend and Millie was his sexy girlfriend.
