The Tao of Solon
The Tao of Solon
Solon is my four year old Percheron gelding. I bought him two years ago, just after he had turned two and it was love at first sight... well at least on my part. He didn't choose to bond with me for another seven months but since then it has been quite an adventure.
I spent two years doing nothing but ground work. Even though he was over 16 hands at the age of three, he just wasn't mentally ready to go to the 'riding' step. So instead, we did ground driving and played. Chase is the game of choice. Usually I am the one chasing, however, once in awhile he will chase me.
We are working toward doing medieval reenactment. Currently we are members of the SCA and attended our first event together on September 22, 2001. We didn't run any of the games. It was more of an introduction to pavilions, flying banners and all the other sort of things he has never seen before. He seemed to enjoy himself a lot. No spooking or being upset at all.
Our other group is with the Lehti Friesian Knights which we will headline with in the next year. This group does medieval combat choreographed to an incredible soundtrack. We will be performing at several fairs next year - a website for the group will be forthcoming.
Down the road I hope to train for jousting competition. I think we could be great at it, we both certainly have the determination. Although Solon wants nothing to do with any sort of lance right now, I am sure he will come about soon!
On this page I will have a journal where I will keep anyone who is interested updated on our progress. There will also be a gallery that I will add too frequently and anything else I can think of that may be of interest.
"The Tao of Solon" translates to "The Way of Solon". I figure if Pooh can have a 'Tao' book, then Solon can have a 'Tao' page.
