Women Warriors

We have always been among you.
Some of us subtly guiding you,
some hiding among you, and still others
standing boldly beside you.

History has almost entirely ignored us.
You have called us daughters, sisters, mothers and wives.
We are now what we have always been, what we will always be...

Women Warriors

In our modern age, you may ask, What is a Woman Warrior?
Some would tell you it is a half-naked woman riding a
dragon or some may say it is someone similar to Xena.
Both are fantasy, but one is entirely more plausible than
the other. I can in all honesty relate more to Xena than
the dragon riding woman and not because there aren't any
dragons around.

Xena at least portrays a strong, independent, skillful and
smart woman. And even if we can't somersault off of our
horses it is still something closer to the type of warrior
I would rather be!

But what about the real women warriors? I think that there
were far more than history has bothered to record.
Women didn't suddenly become enlightened in the 20th
century. In Rome, several Empresses were credited as 'assisting'
their husbands in ruling the Empire. Granted, some of them got
a little greedy and murdered the Emperors, but the fact is, they
were seen as strong, able rulers.

Many Queens ruled as Regents to their sons and provided
long and peaceful reigns to their Kingdoms. Then there
are the warriors and soldiers. Joan d'Arc is possibly one
of the most famous female warriors from history. There
are several others who may or may have not existed,
such as Mulan, but, history thought enough of them to
record their exploits.

Then there are those that history knows very little about.
Those who rode in armies disguised as men. There are
records that tell of women being found among the dead
during several battles.
