Some say that dreams are your brain's way of unwinding while others find
prophetic meaning in them. So what do you do when those dreams
represent what you fear the most? Is it just fanciful imaginings or a
vision of what is to come?

Cast of Characters:

Sonic Hedgehog
Sally Alicia Acorn
Kinos the Enslaver***
????????????

Sonic quietly closed the door behind him while Sally lay in bed
oblivious to his presence. She tossed and turned uncomfortably
murmuring in her sleep.
"Sonic, please come back," she muttered turning again. "Where are
you? We need you."
Sally looked around her. She didn't know where she was or how she
had gotten here and the only thing around that she could see was a thick
mist across the ground that licked her knees.
"Hello?" she yelled out. "Is anyone there?"
"Shh," a voice said behind her. "You'll wake them up."
She turned around and saw Sonic standing there. "You're back!"
she said hugging him. He didn't return it causing her to back up and
look at him. "Sonic? What's wrong?"
"I'm not back Sal," he said somberly walking past her. "This...is
where I'm supposed to be."
"I don't understand," Sally replied. "What do you mean? Where
are we?"
"You really don't get it, do you?" a sinister voice said off to
her side. "She looked over to see Kinos in black robes with his hands
in the pockets. "We're both dead."
"But that's impossible," Sally said shaking her head. "I just saw
Sonic a few hours ago and he would've told me if he had beaten you."
"Sal, you were there watching the whole thing," Sonic told her
confused. "You saw the eye of the storm close and then all hell
breaking loose."
"What are you talking about?" Sally said anger creeping into her
voice as she looked between the two hedgehogs. "What eye? You two
aren't making any sense!"
"Get used to the idea of your precious Sonic being dead Princess,"
Kinos said with a smirk. "I would've been happier if he had died at my
hands but in the end he's still dead."
"You're just being a sore loser," Sonic said smiling back. "Even
if _was_ my own attack that did me in I still beat you."
"Will you two shut up?!" Sally yelled. They both stared at her.
"None of what either of you are saying makes any sense! Will someone
just tell me what's going on?"
	"Why should we bother?"
Sally stopped upon hearing the next voice. It was hollow and
empty and the voice seemed to echo inside itself. She turned around
slowly and found herself staring at a black version of Sonic. Besides
his color the only thing different about him physically were his eyes.
His eyes were like Kinos’ but the irises glowed with an unearthly
yellow. Sally took a step away from him and found herself in Sonic's
inner world. She looked around in confusion trying to figure out what
was going on.
"Who...are you?" she asked backing away from the black Sonic in
fear.
"Does it really matter?" he said smiling. Every step he took
caused everything to die and wither away. The sky behind him turned
black and yellow lightning arced across the sky. "I simply am. Who I
am doesn't matter, especially to a pathetic weakling like you."
Sally kept backing up until she tripped over a rock and fell on
her butt. She looked up into the black Sonic's eyes and shivered. She
had seen those eyes before. This thing was pure evil that she had no
doubt about. But where was he from? Just what was he and why did he
look exactly like Sonic?
"Enough of this," Kinos said crossing his arms over his chest.
"We have work to do."
"Yeah," Sonic replied. Sally turned her head to face him and saw
that he was now wearing a white version of his outfit with black plates
where the white ones had been. Nine silhouettes stood behind him, their
shapes vaguely similar to that of the Freedom Fighters. Their eyes
glowed a bright red. Sally looked into Sonic's eyes. Something was
different. He had the same sadistic glee in his eyes that Kinos had.
No, this couldn't be Sonic.
"Sonic, what's wrong?" she said standing up.
"Absolutely nothing," he said as the shadows around him got
closer. "I'm just doing what I should have a long time ago." The black
Sonic walked up next to him and stepped into him. The two merged and
Sonic's eyes took the color of his black twin's. "Let's finish this
Kinos."
"Gladly," the nanobot said as they all closed in around Sally.
She looked around for a way out but saw none.
"Please Sonic!" she cried out. "Stop this!"
"Where there is good, we will crush it," Kinos said.
"Where there is hope, we will extinguish it," Sonic continued.
"Where there is freedom, we will destroy it," the shadows said in
unison.
The circle closed in tighter as they kept repeating the same
phrases. Sally did the only thing she could: She screamed.
Sally sat straight up in her bed panting and sweating. She looked
around nervously but only saw her hut. She gave a sigh of relief and
laid back down.
"It was just a dream," she reassured herself. "Nothing more."
She looked over at the nightstand at the picture Sonic had given
her for her birthday. She sighed as worry washed over her again. He
still wasn't back. Where on Mobius could he be? She was about to roll
over again when she saw something sitting on the stand that hadn't been
there when she first went to sleep. She reached over and picked it up.
It was a ring that much she could tell. She looked closer at it and her
breath left her. It was the Freedom Fighter signet she had given all of
the core Freedom Fighters. Engraved on the bottom of the band was
Sonic's name. No, that couldn't be...
She laid on her back and held the ring up in the air. Did this
have anything to do with the dream she had just had? No, there was no
way it could be. Sonic would never betray them no matter what happened,
that much she knew. She closed her eyes and laid her head back.
Everything swirled around in her head as she drifted back to sleep.
