Faison hadn't gone to see Lucky at all after Elizabeth and Angela had left. He had the guards bring Lucky his lunch and dinner and later on in the evening he had all of Luckys' things from his room brought to the room he was using now. After spending the morning with Elizabeth he could see why Lucky loved her so completely. She was beautiful, strong, and intelligent. He could tell what the years of loneliness had done to her by the sadness in her eyes, but she wasn't bitter about it. That had amazed him. He couldn't face Lucky after that.

Lucky had spent the entire day trying to figure out what Faison was up to. When all of his things were brought to him he was hit with the realization that he was going to spend his last days alive here in this room. He had felt relief for a split second at the thought of his nightmare ending, but that had passed quickly and been replaced with overwhelming grief and despair for all the things he would never do, all the places he would never see, all the love he had had and would miss out on in the future with Elizabeth and his family. He cried himself to sleep last night, something he hadn't done in years, and prayed that Faison would spare Elizabeths' life in exchange for his own.

When Faison entered his room the next morning there was obvious evidence of Luckys' emotional night. The few pictures that he had given him of Elizabeth and his family were on the floor next to his bed alongside a pile of used tissues. He had assumed Lucky was still asleep because he was lying on his bed facing the wall.

Lucky knew he was there. When Faison turned to leave, he said in a shattered voice, "Please promise me you won't hurt her after you've killed me. That is all I'm going to ask. I don't care what you do to me. You can beat me, torture me, slice me into little pieces bit by bit." he turned, sat up on his bed, and looked Faison in the eyes as he sobbed the last part out, "Just please, I am begging you, don't hurt her."

Faison hadn't expected that. Lucky was giving him permission to kill him as long as he didn't hurt Elizabeth. He turned to walk out the door saying, "You and Elizabeth have the same fate Lucky."

Lucky got up from his bed and screamed at him as he locked the door, "WHY? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?", he was pounding on the door as he begged, "PLEASE! DON'T HURT HER! I GIVE UP! YOU'VE WON." Lucky leaned his back against the door, "Please," he choked out as he lost his energy and slid down to the floor. He laid down on his side, placed his head on the plush carpeting covering the floor, and softly cried to himself until he fell asleep.

Yesterday, after Elizabeth had gotten back to her hotel and congratulated Nicolas on the good chance he was going to be a father, she went to her room and pulled out her memories. She brought her boxcar with her whenever she traveled so she could feel close to Lucky in a strange place. She wanted to feel him close to her now. She needed it after the strange day she had. She couldn't get over the way Donick seemed to be watching her, hanging on her every word. It was like he was waiting for her to do or say something important. She had caught him staring at her with this far away look in his eyes, and then she would get the feeling he wanted to tell her something. When she had put all of her prized possessions back in their box she started to think about the baby Angela and Nicolas were going to have. She really was happy for them, but she couldn't help the jealousy inside of her. When she was with Lucky at the tender age of sixteen she assumed that by the time they were twenty-four they would be married with at least one baby. Yet, here she was without Lucky and without their baby. But she could live with that for a little while longer. He was coming home soon. She could feel it.

She had fallen asleep in the late afternoon and dreamt of him. The entire time she was asleep she could sense that he was hurting. It wasn't physical pain but heartache. In these dreams they couldn't touch due to a glass wall that was separating them. Through his tears she heard him trying to say good-bye to her, that he was giving up his struggle and never coming home. She argued with him and told him they had suffered to much and fought for to long for him to give up now. She told him that she would never stop waiting for him so if he wanted her to be happy, truly happy, he had to come home, and it had to be soon. She couldn't wake up until she heard him say he would continue to fight. He finally said it this morning and she woke up shortly after. She felt at ease after her long sleep. It was the final sign to her that she would see him again in her life, and not just in her mind.

Faison knew it was now or never. He had removed all the furniture, painted over the mirrors in the family room, sent all the guards to his new home in England and made final preparations for his own departure later that day. He picked up his phone and dialed.

Elizabeth picked up her phone on the second ring, "Hello?"

"Hello Elizabeth," Faison greeted. "How are you on this lovely morning?" He was trying to sound as casual as possible.

She recognized his voice immediately. "Hello Mr., sorry, Donick. I'm fine and how are you?"

"I'm good, but I would be a lot better if you would agree to come to my home this morning and stay for lunch. I have something very important that I need to discuss with you privately."

"So what you're saying is that you want me to come out there alone?" She asked him a little nervously.

"Yes," ‘be careful' he thought to himself. "I wanted to again discuss the sketches you want to make of my property. I don't know if you know this, but I am a very private man and I have this need to know exactly what it is you are planning."

"Well, okay, but Angela will be taking photographs so shouldn't she come too?" Elizabeth asked.

"Didn't she mention yesterday that she wanted to spend some time with her husband?" he asked.

"Yeah, now that you mention it I do remember her saying that." She thought about it for a second. "Okay, I just need to hire a ride and then I'll be there."

"My driver is already on his way. He should be there any second." He said.

"Alright, then I'll see you soon." She was amazed he had been so sure she would go.

"I'm looking forward to it." ‘Good, very good.' he thought to himself as they both hung up.

Faison went into Luckys' room and sat in a chair across from him. He was sitting on his bed writing in his journal. When Lucky brought his face up and their eyes met, Faison couldn't believe what he saw. Lucky looked like he did all those years ago after he had been crying for hours. His eyes were red and puffy, his skin was ashen, and he looked so small. None of the strength or confidence that he possessed only a couple of days ago could be seen anymore. He looked like a little boy.

"Why did you paint over the glass?" Faison just sat there looking at him. "I know that you're going to kill," Lucky couldn't even say the words without starting to cry, he cleared his throat, "Are you going to let her see me?" He choked out the last part, "Are you going to let us touch at least once first?"

"What do you think?" Faison asked him without any expression or tone.

Lucky started crying harder, "I don't know. I don't think so. That would mean we got to be together again, and you wouldn't want that would you?" he placed his head in his hands for a few moments and then looked back at Faison. "Why do you have to hurt her too? Why can't you just leave her alone?" he asked between sobs, "You have me! I'll beg God to pardon you and forgive you when I meet him if you leave Elizabeth alone." he said passionately.

Faison was stunned. "After everything that has happened you still believe that there is a God? That there is some higher power out there?"

Lucky put his head down. His crying subsided a little as he wiped his eyes and took a deep breath. He stared at the palms of his hands as he softly said, "I have to. I have to believe in something better. That there is a reason that all this is happening." Although Luckys' faith wasn't as strong as it use to be, it had helped him get through all these years without his family and Elizabeth. He believed there was a reason for it, he just wished he knew what it was.

Faison got up without saying another word. He stood there and stared at Lucky knowing it was the last time he would ever see him, and then turned on his heel and walked out of the room. Lucky had raised his head and watched him. He started to cry again and laid down on his bed. After Faison shut and locked the door he placed the keys in an envelope and went through his house out the back door. He was sitting on the patio smoking one of his cigars when he heard a car pull up. As he watched Elizabeth get out of the backseat he knew he was doing what had to be done. He had to end it.

"Elizabeth, come over and join me." he called to her.

As she approached him she noticed a look of relief on his face. ‘Had he been worried I wouldn't show up?' "Hi Donick."

"Sit down out of the sun." he told her as he pulled out her chair. He sat back down across the table from her and took a long drag of his slim cigar and then looked at it thoughtfully. "My wife won't let me smoke in the house. She thinks that if she makes me smoke outside I will decide to quit."

She smiled as she watched him take another drag before asking, "Do you think that will work?"

"Maybe, by some miracle. But I love these cigars no matter how bad they are for me, and I would miss them." He leaned on the table and looked at her. "Do you believe in miracles Elizabeth?"

‘Why would he want to know that?' She looked at him curiously, "Yes, yes I do. Why?"

"No reason." he said sitting back again, "I was just curious that's all. Anyway, let's get down to business shall we?"

For the rest of the morning they discussed the sketches Elizabeth planned to do for the layout, they ate lunch, and they talked about art. They stayed outside the whole time.

Laura was having a dream about Lucky as a baby. She had placed him in his crib for his afternoon nap. She had been having this dream ever since he died. She hated this one because whenever she went back to check on him he was gone. But every time she had it she checked on him anyway. It had gotten so that she would be crying by the time she reached his door. Just like always she was opening the door and already shedding her tears, and just like always when she looked in the crib it was empty. She stood there sobbing for a moment when she realized there was someone else in the room. "Mom?" she heard said in a boys voice. She turned around and came face to face with a sixteen year old Lucky. "I love you mom." was all he said before he disappeared. Laura woke up and looked over at Luke sleeping soundly beside her. She didn't know what her dream meant, but as she fell back to sleep she did so with a feeling she hadn't had in a long time. Peace.

Elizabeth had been sitting outside for a while by herself. She hadn't noticed for how long because she had been going over her notes and her preliminary sketches. When she glanced at her watch she estimated it had been about twenty minutes since Donick had said he needed to go inside and make a phone call. She hadn't heard a car because he had arranged to be picked up further down the driveway. As she picked up her purse and stood up from the table she saw that the back door to the house was open, so she walked over to it and looked inside. She could see that the furniture that had been in the kitchen was gone. ‘That's odd' she thought. "Donick?" As she walked through the house calling his name she saw that all the furniture was gone. "Okay. This is getting very weird." she said aloud. She walked through the family room and through a door on the same wall as the mirrors that led into a small hallway. She had been to preoccupied as she passed them to notice that they had been painted over. She was about to turn back when she saw an envelope taped to a large door to her right. She walked over to it and saw that it was addressed to her. As she pulled it off the door she noticed three keys inside. She pulled the note out :

"My Dearest Elizabeth. Please ask God and your love to forgive me. These keys will set us all free. At least I hope."

"What is that supposed to mean?" she asked still talking out loud. There were three locks on the door the envelope had been taped to so she tried the keys.

Lucky was in a deep sleep dreaming about Elizabeth. He hadn't heard her calling out because the sound system was off, and had he been awake he wouldn't have seen her in the other room because of the paint. He didn't hear her opening the door.

As Elizabeth walked through the door she was looking around the room when she noticed someone sleeping on the bed. She immediately knew who it was. ‘Lucky?' She was paralyzed. She stood completely still, not breathing as she put her hands over her mouth. She didn't even blink as the tears formed and fell from her eyes. Lucky sensed someone was watching him as he woke up. She didn't even blink as the tears formed and fell from her eyes. Lucky sensed someone was watching him as he woke up. As he opened his eyes they came in direct contact with hers. ‘Elizabeth?' He slowly sat up on the bed and then stood. He placed his hands on his heart and softly began to cry. They both stood still, no movements, no breath, for what seemed like an eternity.

"Oh God! Oh God! Are you real?", Lucky choked out through his tears. "Am I still dreaming?"

Elizabeth removed her hands from her mouth and placed them on her own heart, "It," she tried to find her voice, she was barely breathing, "I", but she couldn't speak.

As she went to take a step forward Lucky put up his hands to stop her and said "Wait." She looked at him confused. "I just want to touch your face so I know that you're real."

He walked slowly towards her after placing both his hands back on his heart. The tears were flowing steadily down both their faces. Elizabeth watched him mesmerized. Their eyes never broke contact. When he was about a foot away from her he stopped. He took his shaking right hand from his heart and slowly brought it up to her mouth. When his fingertips met with her lips they both gasped from the physical contact. They felt the life flow back into their hearts. He brought his other hand up and cradled her face with them. As he leaned in towards her he licked his trembling lips and she knew what he was going to do. When his mouth was only inches away from hers he paused.

His voice was thick with emotion as he said, "Say my name. Please." Their breathing was coming in short gasps. "Please", he begged. "Please say it."

It was barely a whisper as she breathed his name on his lips, "Lu...Lucky."

He closed the space between them and kissed her. The minute their lips connected they both began to sob. She threw her arms around his neck and wrapped her legs around his waist as he picked her up off the floor, all the while kissing her. He kissed her mouth, her cheeks, her eyes. They then hugged as hard as they could. They could feel the others heart beating in sync with their own.

Elizabeth put her hands on either side of Luckys' face and laid her forehead against his, "I knew it, I knew it all along," she said smiling but still sobbing, their eyes still closed from the kiss, "I knew you weren't dead."

Lucky had been so happy to see her he had forgotten about Faison. His eyes flew open as he remembered the danger they were in, "We have to get out of here."

He placed her back on her feet and she nearly fell to the floor. He went to his desk, grabbed his journals and some clothes and threw them in a backpack he hadn't known he had.

"Lucky." Elizabeth said again when she regained her balance.

Still not use to hearing her voice he looked at her startled. He walked over to her and grabbed her hand, smiling despite the danger he feared they were in. "God. It is so good to hear your voice."

He kissed her again lingering a little longer than he should. When he pulled away she was smiling.

"Come on," he said pulling her through the door, "we have to get out of here."

They ran through the house, out the back door, around to the front and down the long winding driveway as fast as they could.

*******************************

Faison was sitting in his private jet on the runway waiting for the call when his cell phone rang. "Yes?"

"She found him and they are on the move." the guard that stayed behind told him.

"Okay," Faison said, "you know what to do."

"Boss, are you sure?" the guard asked him.

"Yes, now do it!" he ordered.

*******************************

Elizabeth and Lucky were still running when they heard a loud explosion. They both stopped suddenly and looked back at Faisons' home. It was far behind them but they could see it was in flames. Then the barn, what Lucky had called home for the past eight years, exploded.

Lucky turned to Elizabeth and pulled on her hand again, "Come on." He looked up at the flames, "We can't stop. We have to keep going."

Elizabeth was watching him as she let go of his hand and ran both of hers through the hair that had fallen out of the loose bun it was tied in. He was wearing blue jeans with a grey T-shirt and a plaid shirt over top, just like when he was younger, and his hair was long like it had been the summer they spent together. She let her hands drop to her sides as she finally noticed how tall he had gotten, and how much he had filled in. From his profile she could see stubble on his face where he hadn't shaved in a couple of days. He turned to face her again and she saw that his eyes were still that same amazing blue. The color of the ocean on a cloudless summer day.

Lucky stepped closer to her and saw the tears forming in her eyes, "What?" he asked her gently. He took her hands in his, "We have to go. It isn't safe here."

She looked deep in his eyes before saying, "I love you," her tears let go and fell down her cheeks, " I love you so much."

Lucky took her hands and placed them on either side of his face while he stared at her. His own tears were falling now. "I love you too. I love you with everything I am." Her hands moved to his shoulders as he wrapped his arms around her waist, and held her close to him.

They heard a car coming up behind them so Lucky grabbed Elizabeths' hand and pulled her off the road and into the trees. The car drove past them without slowing down.

"Let's go." he said.
