Memories Revisited - Chapter 5

The next morning came which was also the day of Audrey's funeral. Lucky was still on the roof and when he heard Liz get up he looked in the window, but he was careful not to be seen. Tears instantly formed in Lucky's eyes when he saw Liz's badly beaten body as she staggered into the bathroom. Memories of that fateful Valentine's Day came rushing back to him. He thought about the look in Liz's eyes when she crawled out of the bushes then, she had that same look in her eyes that she did now.

As soon as Liz entered the bathroom and closed the door, Lucky came threw the window. Lucky quickly went over to the door and locked it then he pushed the chain under the doorknob for extra protection. He went back over to the bed and noticed the blood on the sheets. "Damn him." Lucky wiped away his years and waited for Liz to come out form her shower.

Liz got into the shower and let the got water beat down on her bruised body. As the blood washed away from her legs, Liz crouched down to the floor of the shower where she sobbed. This was not the first time Daniel had raped her, but this was by far the most painful. Liz had been here before, she had gotten over her rape and now it was happening again, but this time she knew who the monster was, her own husband. A man, who was supposed to love her, not hurt her in a way he knew she had been hurt before.

Liz got out of the shower and slipped her robe over her aching body. She opened the door to the steam filled bathroom only to see Lucky standing at the window. Lucky heard the door open and looked over at Liz.

"Lucky what….are you doing here? I thought I told you to go, if Daniel find you here……"

Lucky walked over to her and pulled her into an embrace. "Shh, the door is locked. I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

Tears streamed down Liz's eyes as she held onto Lucky. "Don't I look okay?" Liz broke the embrace and walked over to the dresser. "Lucky you have to get out of here."

"I can't just leave you."

"Don't you see, this is my life, I'm used to Daniel. He'll kill you if he finds you here, I won't lose you again, I wont."

Lucky walks over to Liz and makes her look at him. "You won't have to Elizabeth, I promise."

"It's too late." Liz brought her hands up to cup her face. "He wasn't always like this you know. There was a time where Daniel was the most romantic man, but when he realized I was never really in love with him he turned on me."

"Why weren't you in love with him Elizabeth?"

"Because my heart only belonged to one man…..you. I never stopped loving you Lucky, but I have my children to think about and right now that's all that matters to me."

"I never stopped loving you either Elizabeth and I understand about your children, so please let me help you and them get away from Daniel."

"There is nothing you or anyone can do." Liz went back over to the bed to sit down. "You can do me one favor."

"Name it, you know I'll do anything." Lucky waked over to her.

"Leave."

Lucky's eyes filled again with tears. "No Elizabeth."

"You have to. Go Lucky! Leave me alone."

"Elizabeth please let me help you."

"Go!" Elizabeth walked back into the bathroom and slammed the door. Lucky stood almost in a shock state for a few minutes before he climbed out the window. Maybe this time, he couldn't save her.

A few minutes later Liz came out of the bathroom to see Lucky had gone. She bursted into tears and collapsed on the bed. "I'm so sorry Lucky."
