Lucky walked into the penthouse. Elizabeth had gone to see Emily and Juan’s new place so he’d come alone. Michael was sitting on the floor looking at a book. Lucky couldn’t believe how big he’d gotten. “Hey Michael is your dad around?”
“Daddy! Lucky’s here.” The kid yelled.
“You remember me?”
“My daddy told me about you. Yesterday he came home and told me that you were really alive. Lizzie cried a lot cause a you.”
“Yeah I know. I’m going to fix that though.” Jason came into the room. “Hey man Sonny told me to come by.”
“Yeah lets go over to his place. Michael let Carly sleep okay she had a rough night.” Lucky grinned at Jason giving him a knowing look. Jason laughed and pushed him out of the house. They were sitting on Sonny’s couch waiting for him to come down.
“So when I left, Carly was living with AJ.”
“Yeah they got married. It lasted a few months. The old man started getting to him about ELQ, plus he loved Carly and hated that she’d never love him back. He started drinking again and yelled at Michael, if Emily hadn’t walked in the room she said he probably would have hit him. Carly left him and her and Michael stayed at the brownstone for a while. After she got full custody of him she brought him to see me. We started spending time together again and I fell in love with her. I should have asked her to marry me a long time ago.”
Lucky saw Jason’s business face go on when Sonny came down the stairs. He’d seen that look all his life. He knew it meant no more catching up. “So what’s the plan?” he asked as Sonny sat down.
“No one knows about the island, except the people at the brownstone last night. None of them will open their mouths to anyone, even other family members. I made sure of that. You’re going to go ahead of Liz. Helena doesn’t have anyone watching you. After that stunt on the docks she probably thinks your going to stay and fight. But she probably does have people at the airport and they’ll be on the lookout for a young couple with a baby. So you’ll go ahead of her, by yourself. Someone will be at the other end for you. He’ll walk up to you and ask the time and then say something about the weather. About three hours after your plane leaves I am going to get Liz and Lorenzo and personally make sure they get there. I want you to stay on the island, Liz usually leaves it to go shopping or to work but I don’t want either of you off the island. I am having extra guards posted and there will be one on Lorenzo all the time.”
“Okay. Can we call out?”
“Yeah. The phones at the island are untraceable. No one is going to be able to visit though. Jason and me and that’s it. Lucky I won’t let anything happen to anyone here. I’ve already got guards for your mom and Lulu, Luke said no way for himself. Bobbie and Lucas have one on them, so does Nikolas and Gina though I didn’t tell them, Emily has one too. I’m going to take care of this, I don’t want you to worry.”
“Yeah man get to know your kid. He’s a great little kid to know.” said Jason.
“I haven’t really talked to Elizabeth all that much but dad told me you guys took care of her. You got her a place when she needed to leave, and you were there right after the baby was born. He also said you were his godfathers. Thank you for taking care of them.”
They were all gathered at Luke and Laura’s. It was time to say goodbye to Lucky. Emily and Bobbie and Lucas had already said goodbye earlier. It was Liz, Carly, Jason, Lorenzo, Michael, Laura, Luke, Lulu, Nikolas, and Gina at the house. Lucky had just brought some stuff downstairs that Laura had bought for him the previous day when he was with Sonny and Jason. He was all ready to go and just waiting for Sonny’s guy that was going to take him to the airport.
Nikolas approached Lucky, “I can’t stay, but I wanted to see you before you left. Take care of yourself and them.”
“I will, I always will. Look out for Lulu, she’s upset that I’m leaving again. She doesn’t understand why.”
“I wish you didn’t have to but I know you do. Call me man, okay?”
“I will. Stay safe big brother.” The two hugged as Laura watched on with tears in her eyes. Lucky gave Gina a hug and asked her to take care of his brother. They left and Lucky thought two down and eight to go. He hated saying goodbye. He went over to Carly and gave her a hug. She looked at him with surprise. “Thanks for being a good friend to Elizabeth. And congrats on marrying Jason. I you always knew loved him, I never understood why you agreed to marry AJ.”
“I was stupid. Take care of yourself Lucky. And my friend.”
“I will. I hope when I come back I can get to know you. I mean you’re my cousin right?”
Lulu ran up to Lucky and he picked her up in a hug. “Don’t go Lucky.” She said starting to cry. “Please stay here with me and mommy and daddy and Lizzie and Renzo.”
“Oh Lu you don’t know how much I really want to do that, but I can’t. I’ll be back sweetie I promise. Sooner this time.” He hugged her again and put her down. Lucky walked over to his father. “Dad?”
“Yeah Cowboy?”
“Can you do something for me?”
“Anything, you name it.”
“Let Sonny and Jason handle Helena. Stay out of it. If you get into it and something happens… Dad Mom needs you and so does Lulu and Lorenzo…and Aunt Bobbie if something happens to you who will she go to when her and Roy fight. Will you do that?”
“I can’t promise you that Lucky.”
“Please dad? I need you to be here when I come home. I don’t want to have to come home and visit you in jail or worse at the cemetery.”
“I’ll try.” Luke pulled his son into his arms. “Don’t get all tan and dark like that brother of yours. Stay out of the Sun.” he said trying to crack a joke. “I love you Cowboy. You watch your back okay?”
“I always do.” Lucky went to his mother and hugged her tightly. “Keep him out of trouble mom okay? I’ll be back soon and then I’m back to stay.”
“I hope so baby.” She said hugging her boy again.
Lucky wished Sonny would hurry up. He was waiting on the porch with Jason, Michael, Lorenzo, Carly, and Liz. He couldn’t stay inside with his parents anymore. He felt terrible leaving them after everything they’d been through cause of him. Finally after ten minutes Sonny walked up the steps to the porch. “Well it’s about time you got here Sonny, aren’t you ever on time?” asked Carly enjoying teasing him.
“Look Mrs. Carly - don’t - rush - me - Jason - you - know - it - takes - an - hour - just - to - do - my - hair - Morgan, don’t start with me.” Carly gave him a dirty look and everyone laughed. Sonny looked at Lucky. “You ready?”
“Give me a minute.” Lucky picked up Lorenzo and said, “Hey buddy. I know I just got here but I have to leave again. I promise I will see you real soon though. I’ll be on the island when you and your mommy get there okay.”
Lorenzo nodded and hugged Lucky. “You be wiff Cawa?”
Lucky looked confused, “Carla works at the house. Her sister works at the casino. You’ll meet them both when you get there.” Lucky nodded.
He put his son down and went over to Jason, he said his good-byes and slapped Michael five and then they all went into the house leaving Lucky and Liz on the porch alone. “I don’t want to leave you.” He said looking at her and holding her hand.
“I’ll see you when I get there in the morning. Just make sure you’re there. I love you so much Lucky.”
“I love you too Elizabeth. I’ll be there I promise.” They kissed. It was there first real kiss since he’d come home. He’d kissed her many times softly on the lips and on the cheek but he hadn’t kissed her like this yet. He felt her pull him against her and felt her tears on his face, or were they his? He held her like that just kissing her until the door opened.
“Lucky we have to go. I just got word that Helena is on her way here. Jason is going to stay and we have four guards watching the house. But we have to leave now.”
Liz held his hand until she couldn’t anymore. He mouthed the words I love you to her and she stood there watching as the limo drove off. She was crying and felt someone’s hands on her shoulders guiding her into the house. She knew it was Jason. She turned in his arms and rested her head against his chest. “I want to go with him.” she said crying.
“Elizabeth you’re leaving in a few hours. You’ll be with him again by morning.”
“What if he’s not there? What if something happens to the plane? I can’t take that again Jason. I can’t.”
“Liz, darlin’ the Cowboy will be there. Sonny has a man flying with him and they’ll be people waiting at the island for him. Calm down okay?”
Liz looked at Luke and knew he was right. But as soon as she got to the island she wouldn’t let Lucky out of her sight. Breaking into her thoughts was a knock on the door. Luke opened it and Helena barged in. “Where is your dear son?”
No one said anything so Jason walked over to Helena and said, “Your to late lady, Lucky took off last night.”
