The Return - Chapter 23

by: Deb

Can this be true
Tell me can this be real
How can I put into words what I feel
My life was complete
I thought I was whole
Why does it feel like I'm losing control
I never thought that love could feel like this
You've changed my world with just one kiss
How can it be that right here with me there's an angel
It's a miracle...

Elizabeth closed her eyes and sighed happily as they danced to their song at Luke's club after the wedding. ''Do you know how many times I dreamed this? she asked softly into his ear ''You and I in these formal clothes, dancing, and so happy. Then I would look around and you would be gone.''

Lucky held her tighter. ''I'm not going anywhere.'' He pulled back so he could look into her eyes. ''This is real.'' He bent his head, then and kissed her lingeringly, uncaring that there were about a hundred other people in the room.

Luke and Laura watched their son dancing with his bride, and Laura smiled over at Luke. ''Aren't they beautiful?''

''Yeah,'' he agreed. ''Remember our wedding?'' At Laura's nod, he continued. ''I can still remember exactly how I felt watching you walk toward me. You were the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. You still are.''

''Luke...'' Laura had a catch in her voice. The wedding had made her extra emotional, and where Luke was concerned, well, her emotions always ran high with him.

''Do you still love me, Laura?''

''Yes.'' It was a simple answer to a simple question. Maybe they had made things too complicated in the last couple of years. Maybe they needed to start at the beginning, at what had drawn them together in the first place.

Luke stood up. ''Good, because I still love you too.'' He walked over to her and extended his hand. ''Dance with me?'' He pulled her up and out on to the floor.

Lucky took his eyes off of Elizabeth long enough to smile over at his parents. Elizabeth follwed his gaze. ''Do you think they're going to get back together?''

''Maybe,'' he answered. ''Anything's possible.''

A little while later, Lucky looked around. ''It looks like everyone's having a good time...''

Elizabeth read his mind. ''I don't think they'll miss us much.''

''Well, let's get out of here.'' He caught his dad's eye and nodded to him.

Luke whistled to get everyone's attention to let them know it was time to say good-bye to the newlyweds. Elizabeth tossed her bouquet over her shoulder, and it was caught by Emily. Alan scoweled and looked over at Juan. ''Don't you be getting any ideas, mister!''

Then Lucky and Elizabeth were running hand-in-hand outside amid a shower of rice, toward the waiting limosine. The chauffer opened the back door, and they gave one last wave to the people standing outside the church before they were off. Their parents had gotten together to sponsor a week in Cancun for them, but for tonight they were going to stay at the Port Charles Hotel, then fly out tomorrow.

After they had registered at the front desk Elizabeth and Lucky stood in the elevator with several other hotel guests. They had changed their clothes before they left, but Liz felt sure that everyone who looked at them knew that this was their wedding night. At the door of the honeymoon suite Lucky stopped her befor they went in.

''We gotta do this right,'' he explained, before scooping her up into his arms to carry her across the threshold. Before he put her down he kissed her tenderly, not taking his lips off hers as he slowly eased her to her feet.

''Ahem.'' Lucky and Liz jumped apart as the bellman cleared his throat behind them. He was holding their bags in the doorway, looking at them in patient amusement. ''Where do you want these?''

''Oh!'' Answered Liz, flustered. ''You can set them down right there.'' Lucky pulled a couple of bills out of his wallet and handed them to him. ''Thanks Mr. Spencer.'' He nodded to Elizabeth. ''Mrs. Spencer.'' At the look of wonder on Liz's face, he shook his head and grinned to himself as he left, shutting the door behing him. ''Newlyweds.''

''Did you hear that, Lucky? He called me Mrs. Spencer!''

''Well, that's who you are now,'' Lucky laughed, pulling her to him again. ''C'mere, Mrs. Spencer.'' His lips came down on hers again. When he felt her tongue flick against his a shiver ran down his back and he pulled her tighter to him, letting her know how much he wanted her. But now wasn't the time, not yet. He forced himself to pull back and smiled gently down at her. ''Room service should be here pretty soon with our dinner. Are you hungry?''

Elizabeth nodded, although in truth, she didn't know if she would be able to eat a bite. ''I think so.''

As if on cue, there was a knock at the door. Lucky opened it and let in a waiter pushing the cart. The covers were taken off to reveal steak and prawns with baked potatoes. For desert there were chocolate-dipped strawberries.

After the man had left They sat down to eat. ''It looks delicious.'' said Elizabeth, cutting off a small bite of steak. She put it into her mouth at the same time Lucky took a bite, both of them wondering how they were going to get through this meal. As they chewed, their eyes met, and they both started feeling laughter bubbling up inside them. Liz grabbed for her water, washing down the food. ''I don't think I'm hungry after all, Lucky.'' she finally gasped.

''Me neither. Maybe later.'' Lucky chuckled again, remembering the look on Elizabeth's face as she contemplated eating all of that food. If she felt anything like he did right now, dinner was the last thing on her mind. They both sobered and looked at each other for a moment before she came forward and he pulled her tightly to him again, kissing her with more passion than he had ever dared. He pulled back then and looked her again, a question in his eyes. He saw the answer in hers even as she unconsciously swayed toward him again. Without a word he scooped her up into his arms again and carried her to the bed as his lips hungrily moved over hers.

He sat on the edge of the bed with her in his lap, letting his lips roam down her throat as his fingers moved to the buttons of her blouse. At his first sight of her, and when he was able to touch her in the way he had only dreamed about, Lucky took a shuddering breath. ''You're so beautiful,'' he whispered.

Elizabeth had thought that she'd be embarassed when this time came, but she wasn't . She felt no shame at Lucky seeing her. She pulled his shirt over his head and let her hands roam over his chest and back. When she felt the scars underneath her fingertips, she stopped, remembering the story he had told her.

''It's okay, Elizabeth.'' said Lucky softly. ''It doesn't hurt. I know they're kind of ugly though...''

''No!'' she interrupted him firmly. ''The person who did this is ugly. You're beautiful. Your whole body is beautiful, every inch of you. Don't ever think anything else.''

He saw in her eyes that she meant it. ''I love you so much.'' he said simply, as his lips came down on hers again. His hands moved over her as his mouth plundered hers with an abandon he had never let loose before. After a long time where they spent learning each others' bodies, and learning the pleasure they could bring each other, Lucky finally took Elizabeth's face in his hands and looked deeply into her eyes. At her smile and tiny nod, he made her his wife completely.

A little while later Lucky and Elizabeth lay quietly beneath the covers he had pulled over them, both of them lost in the wonder of what had happened between them. Elizabeth's head was in the crook of his arm and she could hear his heartbeat, which had finally slowed back to normal. ''Lucky, that was...beautiful. I never imagined....'' her voice trailed off, she didn't have the words to describe how she felt.

''Me neither.'' Lucky looked down at the top of her head and stroked her cheek with his finger. He saw past her at the candles that he had planned to light, and shook his head ruefully. It wasn't even dark yet anyway. ''I guess I kinda rushed things. I wanted this night to be perfect for you...''

Elizabeth twisted her head around to look at him. ''Don't you dare apologize, mister! It was perfect. You gave me a beautiful gift tonight. I mean, I always knew that with you it would be good, and different than, you know, before. But I never realized that it would be so wonderful.''

He kissed the top of her head. ''Actually, I wasn't going to apologize. I could never be sorry for what just happened between us. I was just going to say that we're going to have to try it again....But right now, guess what I want.''

''I know. Food.'' She laughed as he nodded and jumped out of the bed, pulling her with him. After he grabbed the two robes that were hanging in the bathroom, He sat down at the table and pulled her down on his lap. They found that now that their other appetites had been appeased, they were both ravenous and they ate every bite of the now cool dinner.

''Mmm,. that was good,'' sighed Elizabeth, leaning back against him. ''Now, guess what I want.''

Lucky raised his eyebrows ''Already?'' he teased.

She swatted him playfully on the shoulder. ''Besides that!'' she laughed. ''I want to take a shower, and change into something more...comfortable.''

Lucky suddenly remembered the black lace thing he had seen in her room the other day. He smiled when he remembered how nervous he had been to make Elizabeth his wife. But she had been right. They had plenty of time to practice, and a lifetime ahead of them to love.
