Kevin, Lucy, and Bad Film Noir
As our scene begins Garcia is interrogating Kevin for the murder of Damien Smith .The interrogation begins, as Mac and Lucy
look-on from an adjoining room.
Garcia: "Have a seat, Dr. Collins."
Kevin: "You must be delusional. If you think I am going to play a role in a trite version of bad film noir, you're mistaken. I'll stand, thanks."
G: "Suit yourself... It's no secret you hated Damian
Smith."
K: "You're right, it's no secret."
G: "And that was because?"
K: "Because he was an unmitigated jerk who fixated on the woman I love."
G: "That would be Lucy Coe?"
K: "Yes, that would be Lucy Coe."
G: "In fact, you had what can only be described as a vicious confrontation with the deceased shortly before his death, is that correct?"
K: "If you're referring to the night that I choked him to within an inch of his life, the answer would be 'yes.'"
G: "So you freely admit to becoming violent with
him?"
K: "I'd be an idiot to deny it when you can call half the population of Port Charles in as eye witnesses."
G: "Know what I think happened?"
K: "No, but if I were sitting, I'd be right on the edge of my seat."
G: "I think you ultimately finished the job that you started at Luke's that night. I think you finally had it with-what'd you call it?-- Damian's fixation on your lady and decided to end it once and for all."
K: "A smart gentleman like you must have some idea how I carried out such a dastardly deed."
G: "Well, I've got one or two ideas. For example, maybe Damian mouthed off to you once too often. Maybe he insulted your lady. Maybe he challenged your manhood. Whatever. I think you killed him somewhere else then moved the body to Ward House knowing it'd be empty. You could have set the fire to destroy the body with the added bonus that at the very least, it would seem as if
Damian got caught in a blaze of his own design. But being
an upright citizen, for the most part, you didn't want to
chance the fire spreading to the neighboring buildings, so you sounded the fire alarm before leaving the scene."
K: "That's impressive. It's brilliant, even. Yeah, that's what that is, a brilliant example of deductive reasoning. Except for one small detail, the murder actually took place at the lighthouse, and I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by simply dumping his body into the lake. Call me crazy, but I
thought it would be more entertaining to drag his dead weight all the way across town, dump it and burn it at Ward House, a building that I'd never even been into, until that fateful night. I got to hand it to you, you figured it out. So here it is, the face of your elusive killer. (Kevin picks up a nearby desk
light and shines it in his face.) Take me away. Case solved. Let's all go home."
(From the next room, Lucy and Mac have been watching via the two-way mirror)
Lucy: "What is he doing?"
Mac: "Trying to make Garcia look foolish. I think it's
working."
(Back to Kevin and Garcia. Garcia doesn't seem amused...)
G: "You're a real funny guy, you know that? Go on, get the hell out of here, just don't go too far."
K: "It wouldn't be you I was running from..."
