Chapter 3

Flashback...

Lucy walked out of the upstairs bathroom visibly pale hands over her muscular stomach.

''Lucy? Are you okay?'' Kevin asked stroking her hair.

''Yeah, I'll be fine. Don't worry about me''

''Now that is impossible'' Kevin answered lowering her to his lap ''I want you to stop by the hospital today and get a physical – this has to be one of the longest flu's I've ever seen.''

''But Doc I have an important meeting and Scotty wants me to pick Serena from school. I just don't have time'' Lucy argued.

''Make time'' Kevin answered simply when Lucy just sighed ''Okay. Listen, reschedule the meeting and I'll pick Serena up from school and then forget about all those little nit picky things you have to do'' Lucy just look at him unwillingly ''For me?'' he retaliated with the smile that always made her give in.

''Fine. For you.'' Lucy said before getting ready for work ''But only 'cause I love you and you won't shut up about it till I do…''

''Lucy it appears that there are no serious problems as far as I can tell you're in perfect health'' Dr. Neumann said looking over the results of her exam.

''See I told Doc here was nothing to worry about!'' Lucy answered.

''Well we still need the results from those blood tests but I don't think any problems should arise. I'll call you with the results''

''Alright! Thank you!'' Lucy said cheerfully walking out of the office.

!@#$%%^&**(()(*&^%%$#@!>

Kevin walked in the lighthouse placing some papers on the table ''Lucy! You home?'' he asked noticing the blinking answering machine light. He hit the button has the message began to play.

''Hello Lucy. This is Dr. Neumann from General Hospital. I have the results here of those blood tests. You'll be happy to know all came back negative except for the pregnancy test whose results were positive. Just call the hospital to make an appointment and we'll get you started on the nessacery vitamins as soon as possible. Thank you.''

The message ended and Kevin just stood there stunned finally he fell back on the couch. ''Pregnancy test'' he repeated to himself ''Positive. Lucy's pregnant'' Kevin sat there in stunned silence for about 5 minutes until Lucy walked in the door.

''Lucy!'' Kevin said stunned standing up going over to her. ''H-How are you feeling?''

''I'm fine Doc. What's wrong?''

''Oh nothing. Nothing. Not a thing'' Kevin smiled ''You should sit down!'' He exclaimed bringing her over to the couch fluffing up the pillows

''Comfy?''

''Yeah I'm fine but what's the matter with you?'' Lucy asked confused.

''Nothing's the matter with me. I'm perfectly fine. How did your appointment go today?''

''Good. Dr. Neumann said everything seems fine'' Luc answered. ''I mean besides for my blood tests which I'm sure are fine but I'm still waiting for the results..''

''You mean you don't know?!?'' Kevin asked jumping up from the couch ''I can't believe you don't know yet! I mean I know before you do! And here I am just knowing and there you are not knowing all the while I should be letting you know!'' Kevin looked at Lucy who was watching him blankly. ''And you have no clue what I'm talking about!''

''No Doc I don't and frankly you're scaring the daylights outta me. I mean that sentence sounded worse than Lucy logic!'' Lucy answered.

''Here. It'll explain everything'' Kevin said pushing the button on the answering machine letting the message play once more. He wrapped his arms around Lucy who was practically shaking.

''I'm- I'm pregnant'' Lucy stuttered tears filling her eyes. Kevin just nodded in agreement ''And you knew! You knew before I knew and you just let me sit there not knowing''

''I didn't know you didn't know'' Kevin answered tearfully placing his hand over her abdomen ''We're having a baby''

Lucy just nodded happily placing her hands over his ''Our baby'' she said crying when he leaned his lips towards her's kissing her. Tears running down both their faces.

Melanie was feeling crummy. More so than she had ever felt in her life. She was constantly throwing up, she was a lot more pale than usual. She suspected that it was not just the flu but that maybe the sickness that she felt was more like MORNING sickness. There was only one way to find out.

The next day she went to the drug store and bought three home pregnancy tests.

She knew that Victor would not be home for hours so she went ahead and took ALL three tests. One right after the other. She reasoned that if 2 out of the 3 were positive then that would mean she was pregnant. But if only 1 out of the 3 was positive that would mean she wasn't.

''Okay. Let them sit for 3 minutes and then I should know for sure. I am not sure what I want the results to be. Vic wants a child and so do I but...I don't think I am ready to have kids.'' Melanie said.

She left the bathroom and found the book that she had started earlier that week. She read about two pages before curiosity got the better of her and she rushed back to the bathroom and looked at the tests... Sure enough two out of the three were positive.

''Man is Victor going to be suprised.''

Later that night when Victor got home, Melanie was waiting for him on the couch. She was smiling. Not a happy smile. Not even a sad smile. It was kind of like a confused smile.

''Melie is everything okay?'' Victor asked noticing the two sticks she held in her hand.

''Victor I am pregnant. And before you ask, yes I am sure, I did the test three times. Two of them came out positive. The other one negative but two outta three is pretty convincing.''

''I love you. Melie'' was all that Victor could muster. His love for her grew in that moment.

''Well not exactly the most normal way to learn about the baby!'' Victor laughed.

''Oh come now Victor when has anything we ever did been considered normal?'' Kevin asked.

''Good point'' Victor reasoned when Lucy jumped up.

''Oh my gosh! We didn't show you the tape yet!'' Lucy exclaimed rummaging through piles of junk spread out on the table.

''Found it!''

She passed the tape to Kevin who placed it in the VCR and pushed play. ''Now what is this?'' Victor asked when the tape started to play and suddenly a quick thumping noise filled the room and a small shadowy figure came into view on the screen. ''Oh my! Is that…''

''That's your little grandson or daughter'' Lucy smiled wrapping her arms around Kevin who looked as amazed as he did the first time he saw it.

''That's just…unbelievable'' Victor exclaimed, tears in his eyes, watching the tiny figure move about on the screen.

Melanie and Victor were in a white, sterile, cold exam room. This was the appointment that they were waiting for. Today they were going to hear the heartbeats of their twins. Victor was nervous. He was still in shock that Melanie was having twins. This would put him over the top.

Melanie looked over at him smiling that smile that he loved so much. But then she noticed how tense and nervous he was. Reaching for his hand she said calmly and soothingly as if she were singing a lullaby.

''Victor, honey, are you alright? You look like you are about to witness the Second Coming. If it is any consolation to you I am nervous too. I have never done this before. Heck I have never even been pregnant before. This is all new to me.''

If there were limits to how much a man could love a woman, Victor broke all the limits. He was falling more and more in love with Melie every day.

''Melie, my little chickpea, I know you are nervous and have had your doubts about this but I think that God or some higher force made this possible. It is part of the journey that we were meant to take. I have no regrets. And I know you don't either.''

Just then the doctor came in and grinned at the loving couple. Within a few minutes she had Melanie all set to hear the heart beats of her twins. Instantly the stangest noise came out of the machine it was the twins!

Victor and Melanie were so over come by it all they could do is look at each other and mouth the words, 'I love you.'
