Chapter 5

Lucy turned to Victor who she had just noticed in the doorway ''Well what did Mary say? Can you stay a little longer?''

''I called Mary and she is perfectly fine with me staying here for a little longer'' Victor smiled sitting back onto the chair.

''Well then I guess I should brace…er… look forward to more of your interesting tales'' Kevin said sarcastically. Lucy smacked Kevin's arm lightly.

''What?!?!'' Kevin asked innocently.

''Oh you know what'' Lucy glared at him. Kevin feigned fear has she smacked him once more.

Victor continued laughing until he thought of something. ''Oh Lucy when are you going to have a baby shower?''

''A baby shower! Oh I almost forgot! Oh Doc I need to have a baby shower to get all those cute little baby thingies to ''ooh'' and ''aah'' over'' Lucy said happily.

''Oh gosh'' Kevin said ''Why do you have to have one of THOSE''

''And what's wrong with a innocent little baby shower, Monk?'' Victor asked.

''Oh like you don't know… all those women making up cutesy games and getting amazed over the simplest things. And may I ask what are the men supposed to be doing while all this is taking place? Ill tell you Nothing N-O-T-H-I-N-G… NOTHING!'' Kevin argued.

''Well Doc you could go out to the bar or something you know..'' Lucy reasoned.

''Oh great I get to go to the bar. Whoopie. I mean mothers-to-be get this big fancy party and what do the father's get? We get to go to a bar for one afternoon I mean we're not even invited to the party for god sakes!'' Kevin whined.

''Well gosh Doc if it means that much to you your invited''

''No! Because then I'd be the only guy at a all women's baby shower you know what that can do for the little male reputation I already have?'' Kevin said.

Lucy whispered to Victor ''And I thought I was supposed to be the ones with the mood swings''

''I heard that'' Kevin said pouting.

''Actually Lucy Monk's fears can be justified. I mean sure baby showers are traditional but they still can be a pain in the rear… I mean I remember Melanie's baby shower…''

''The girls really went all out for this.'' Melanie said after the last of her guests had gone. Rubbing her expanded tummy she smiled.''But I am glad they did because I needed half the stuff they gave me.''

Picking up the little bib and bottle, she smiled. Victor would not believe all the stuff she had gotten. They had gotten, recieving blankets, bottles, books, bibs, strollers, sheets for the cribs, basically everything in two's! Melanie was in seventh heaven.

Just then Victor walked in and saw the living room literally FULL of baby things. ''Let me guess. Lissa threw you a shower and this is the mess I have to clean up. And these are the baby things I have to put in the nursery BY MYSELF!'' he said in a playful tone.

''Yup she did. I am glad she did too because I needed these things.'' Melanie said throwing a pillow at her husband.

Victor was in the process of picking up the 'mess' when he noticed a book that was on the floor, that he almost stepped on. ''Melie, did you see this? Lissa gave us a baby book. I am suprised your not filling it out.''

''Vic our children are not born yet. there is not much to write!'' Melanie said with a wink.

~!~!~!~!~!~

''Did she ever fill the baby book out?'' Kevin asked doubtfully. ''In fact she did Monk but I'm afraid it perished in the fire with Melanie'' Victor answered.

''That's awful. I think every person should have something to remember their childhood by…'' Lucy stopped mid-sentence has Kevin's expression grew sadder ''At least Doc still has your wonderful stories though Victor'' Victor nodded ''And your child will be hearing about this day when he or she gets older.'' Victor added looking towards Kevin ''And will probably be has bored by it has you are''

''Not bored, Victor. I just find it pretty unbelievable that you and my mother were ever that…well that…'' Kevin searched for the correct word.

''Normal?'' Victor finished.

''Well yes. It is very implausible you have to admit''

''I suppose so. But our mother wasn't always… like that'' Victor answered sadly thinking of how wonderful she was…before.

''I know. I guess I've always realized that'' Kevin said looking at Lucy who was now thumbing through a baby catalog. ''And where do you get that from?''

''Beth-Anne gave it to me'' Lucy answered not looking away from the catalog.

''Well apparently she hasn't been shopping with you yet'' Kevin responded.

''Why do you say that?'' Victor asked watching Lucy intently circle numerous items.

''Well because we must have a thousand shopping bags full of baby things!'' Kevin answered turning back to Lucy patting her stomach. ''I don't know how many kids you think you've got in there but you've got enough baby stuff for 50!''

Lucy placed down the catalog angered ''I'll thank you to know I need each and every one of those things I've bought''

''Like the 5 different baby baths?'' Kevin asked.

''Well you can't expect your child to take a bath in the same old bath all day do you? Really Doc haven't you ever heard of a change in scenery?'' Lucy retorted.

''A change in scenery? It's a bath!'' Kevin yelled back. Kevin looked to Victor

''Please, tell me you have a story that can actually help me out here''

''Well I don't know how much help it could be to you but I do remember Melanie having a very similar baby shopping kick…''

~!~!~!~!~!~

Melanie and Lissa were laughing so hard that they thought they were going to die. Lissa was Melanie's best friend.

''How much do you think we spent today. In total?'' Melanie asked laughing.

''Oh I would say probably over $1,000. I mean we got soo carried away in that one store for women who are having twins. I was afraid I would never get you out of there! But those outfits are soo cute. Ryan and Kevin are going to love them.'' Lissa said.

''ME?!?! What about you? As I recall YOU were the one that they had to practically drag you out of there.'' Melanie teased.

Just then Victor walked in and looked at the pile and said,''My God woman! How much did you spend!!!''
