WALTONS DIGEST 20-2001:

Hi everyone,

I'm finally back from having a week off from the digest. :-) Sorry there was no digest last week but things have just been so hectic around here that it got put on the back burner, so to speak, then I went back to work on Tuesday and just ran out of time. I find that I can't doing anything else the days that I work as it is so busy, so if it's not done by Monday then it just has to wait. However here we are back again.

It has finally become winter here. We had been having very mild weather up until now which is quite unseasonable. In fact the snow season opened last weekend (our Queen's birthday long weekend) and it opened without snow. However yesterday we had such an icy day here in Melbourne that I suspect the snow has been dumped on the mountains and people will be able to start skiing soon. At least there'll be snow there anyway.

Yesterday I was on an excursion with our Grades 3 & 4 classes at a place called Books Illustrated. It's an art gallery run by two women, one of whom is a well known children's book illustrator. Fortunately the sessions were held inside because it was hailing outside and very cold. And every time we started to let the children go outside for a bit of a run, down the rain and/or hail would come again. They had a nice big WARM shed where we could eat our lunches and the kids could have a bit of a break, and they did manage to have a short play outside so it wasn't too bad. The excursion itself though was terrific, and the children just loved it. There's two sessions...one talking about an illustration exhibition which was on and the kids were very familiar with many of the books on display and had fun looking to find differences between the original artwork and the published books, and then the second session was about how Ann James, the illustrator, goes about illustrating a new book. She also drew two of the children as book characters which was fun. Two of the cheekiest looking boys!

Anyway, I'd better get the rest of this digest done, or you'll all be thinking my hard drives crashed yet again. LOL

Goodnight everyone,

Karen.

Joyce that was a tender moment between Jim Bob and Elizabeth...He seemed mature beyond his years. I love The Homecoming!!!

The Walton's truck is a Ford Model A 1929 or 1930 I believe? I think the truck is owned by someone not in Hollywood.

I love the Waltons.i was wondering do you know where I could buy a copy of a Waltons Easter.

Which Waltons Easter? The one from the series or the recent movie where JohnBoy has twins? Columbia House has both but I think for the series one you need to order the entire episode collection. They did offer the movie for sale as a promo right after it's airing.

Cindy

KAREN'S COMMENT: Yes, I think I especially liked Jim Bob as a smaller boy. David Harper was a very good actor I think. Kristin I hope that helps you find a copy of A Waltons Easter. I'm assuming it's the 1997 special that you would be after. Columbia House has a website and are fairly quick with their answers. Go to Columbia House.

Yep, The Waltons is still airing on TNN. It airs M-F at 1pm Eastern Time Zone. At least that is what it says in this weeks TV Guide for June 3-9.

Beth

KAREN'S COMMENT: Thanks for letting us know this Beth. You lucky things. What eps are airing?

Karen,

Thanks as always for the Waltons Digest. I usually get it Monday morning, and it's a nice way to start the work week. I must have missed the question about your favorite Jim-Bob moment, but wanted to weigh in because it's actually one of the best moments in the entire series. It's from the Day of Infamy episode when Jim-Bob informs Mary-Ellen that Curt is dead and tells her what the telegram had to say about him. The entire episode has been so angst-filled and Jim-Bob has been torn by his desire to serve. You can imagine his feelings when he discovered that Curt was dead and the caring he felt for his sister in wanting to tell her vs. having Mary Ellen read it in the cold form of a telegram. I thought it was one of the most powerful moments of the series, which is saying a lot because The Waltons offered us a lot of powerful moments over the years.

Jim

KAREN'S COMMENT: I watched Day of Infamy only recently, and it certainly is a powerful episode, as were many of the Waltons episodes. The script writers were just fantastic. Now that we've talked about our favorite Jim Bob moments, what about Elizabeth moments. Probably most of them would have come from the earlier series, when she was particularly cute, but perhaps you have some from when she was older.

Hi Karen,

I don't recall Corabeth saying why she didn't pursue a career as a ballerina. What I do remember her saying is that she never thought she would end up living at a crossroad of a small town married to the owner of a general store. She was happy, but still sometimes thought about her dreams of becoming a ballerina and visiting Paris France.

I always thought Corabeth was lucky... married to such a wonderful man as Ike Godsey. He was patient, loving and kind to her.

Silvia

KAREN'S COMMENT: He was a very patient man wasn't he, and always allowed and accepted her airs and graces that she put on. He was very indulgent too on many occasions such as when he learnt to dance for her, and when he fixed up her dream fountain.

Yes The Waltons are on twice a day now AT noon and at 1pm Central Daylight that is 1pm and 2pm Eastern and Pacific Daylight.

Donald

KAREN'S COMMENT: Good to hear that it's still going.

Hi Karen,

I just wanted to let everyone know of the Walton sighting I had. I was watching the cable channel TV Land and they were showing old episodes of the show Wagon Train. Mickey Rooney was a guest star along with Ellen Corby (Grandma Walton) who played his aunt. I'm not sure what year this episode was filmed, but Ellen Corby seemed several years younger than when she played Grandma Walton. She played a very sweet lady in this episode which fitted the story line, but I must say I liked her tart portrayal of Grandma Walton better.

Goodnight from Karen in AZ

KAREN'S COMMENT: Goodness, Wagon Train is very old I think. I could be wrong though as I never was really a westerns fan.

Hi Karen and everybody!

I should have included this weeks ago, but I didn't get around to it until today. I saw Corabeth on Star Trek, The Next Generation. Yes, I'm also a Trekkie. It was really funny, because she was from some different race on some planet, but she was the school teacher, and she was really know-it-all and bossy, just like in the Waltons! My favorite Jim-Bob episode would have to be The Secret. I cry every time I see it. My favorite parts are when Jim-Bob talks to John after he finds out about his twin and when he goes into the kitchen and gives Olivia a hug. It makes me cry just thinking about it. I also like the way Grandma is so sensitive to his and Olivia's needs during this episode, and how she makes the one dinner special after he finds out. That's enough for this week!

Goodnight everybody,

Robin

KAREN'S COMMENT: Definitely a very special moment. I love it when John Boy and Jim Bob are actually looking at the register and discover the truth. John Boy handles everything very sensitively during this episode.

Hi Karen and everyone,

I really enjoyed hearing from so many people requesting the Walton calendar. To each and everyone--thank-you again. But true to my word, the first person to respond was DeEtta from Tennessee. I know she will enjoy the pictures and write-ups.

The Waltons are on back to back, 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. It's wonderful but I don't get any work done! It doesn't matter how many times I see an episode, I always notice something new. It may be something in the background or a small mistake but I still enjoy watching the show.

If anyone watches "Designing Women" did you realize Mary-Jo's boyfriend---DJ---is Jonsey? I never thought MaryEllen and Jonsey fit together. He was a nice person but she needed someone a little more out-spoken. He was just a total change from Kurt. I could have seen him with Erin or Elizabeth.

Joyce

Boones Mill, VA

KAREN'S COMMENT: That's fantastic about the calendar. It would be something very special. I can imagine missing 2 hours out of the day...perhaps we can organise a Waltons siesta time or something for you. LOL It's a pity if you work though.

I must have missed something..what is this about a new Walton special/movie? Could someone please fill me in on the details.

Lisa

KAREN'S COMMENT: I doubt you've really missed anything Lisa. After the 1997 telemovie was so successful they decided to commission another one. It has been written and finalized I believe, but shooting will not start until the television network gives a guarantee of a timeslot for it.

Hi Karen and All,

I haven't had a chance to write lately because we had a graduation and then this coming weekend we are leaving for vacation. We will be stopping at the Walton Mountain Museum on the way thru Virginia. I am happy to be going there again.

I thought I would let you know my favorite Jim Bob moment. I love the episode when Josh was found in there barn. Jim Bob was having a time when he just wasn't in his right mind. He was just so funny looking in the sky for a plane that wasn't there. But, later, he showed he still knew what was right when he saved Josh from the bullies.

Well, I have to go, lots of packing to do.

Good Night, ----Jennifer

KAREN'S COMMENT: I hope you receive this before you go away Jennifer. Have a wonderful trip.
