| WALTONS DIGEST 29-2001: Hi again everyone, I am also sending out a regular digest today, in addition to our 2nd special edition and I hope you will enjoy it. Perhaps it might add a little normality to our lives at the moment. We have had a very busy time recently, with James performing each night for the last couple of weeks in Jesus Christ Superstar. He has shared the roles of Caiaphas and Pilate. The show was absolutely wonderful and a credit to all the staff and students at the College. It's a little sad to think that it was his last musical with the college, but I'm sure it will not be the last one we see him in. In fact an amateur theatre company has expressed interest in him doing some things with them next year, so that's a big boost to his ego. :-) Also over the weekend, we travelled up to Moama for a celebration with my parents. They had a party to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary which was on September 12th. We had a lovely lunch, it was a beautiful spring day and it was fun to catch up with so many people that I hadn't seen for ages. Fortunately the holidays are coming at the end of the week for us and we get a two week break. I'm still battling bronchitis a bit so the holidays will be a time to catch up on things around the house and resting. Talk to you all again very soon. Goodnight everyone, Karen.

Hello Karen and all! Yes, I have been finding the Waltons again, and am very happy about it. Though we have a policy about not watching TV on weekdays during the school year, we are allowed to tape episodes, and I'm planning to tape a couple a week and watch them on the week-ends. I didn't last year, and I didn't realize until this summer how much I had missed my favorite family that made my cry, and laugh, and wish I was part of them. Thank you to everyone who sent in different show times. I have still only seen them at 9 and 10 eastern central time. Glad to hear that you're getting rain again Karen. We have a pretty cool cloudy week in the forecast, with all the thunder showers that we've been missing all summer. I know how the flu can be. My mother is the secretary at my brother and sister's school, and last year at the beginning of school, she couldn't get over all the kids who were out sick. The worst was in January, though, when the flu went around and most people had side affects of either and ear infection or pneumonia. I hope you feel better soon Karen. Goodnight everybody, Robin KAREN'S COMMENT: Robin, like you, I'm sure that so many of our members miss The Waltons hugely when we are not able to watch them regularly.
Hi Karen, In regard to John Walmsley's songs, he credits them at the end of the show, like the song about grandma Walton. As for Judy Norton Taylor, thanks for the update. It's nice to know there are some other canadian fans here. As for Ronnie Claire Edwards, I saw her in a movie not too long ago on TNN, I'm not sure of the name, but she was a supporting actress, not the main character. Gotta go, Goodnight everyone! ~Nicole KAREN'S COMMENT: Do you know that I've never seen RCE in a movie. As for Jon Walmsley's songs, I can only recall a couple being credited...the Ironing Board Blues being one of them.
Someone (didn't give a name) asked - Hi Karen, Did Jon Walmsley compose any of the songs attributed to Jason? I expect you'll get lots of answers - but, yes - and Jon Walmsley is credited (on the end credits) of the appropriate episodes for doing so. A talented guy! Arthur The Complete Waltons Synopses: http://www.bbctv-ap.freeserve.co.uk/wltnp1.htm KAREN'S COMMENT: It's a good idea to have a look at these synopses for the answers here. I still don't think they're all credited though. What about the Founder's Day piece? Did he do that or was it the music person for the show?
I am sure you have received word by now that The Waltons are on TNN twice a day with the exception of Wednesdays when they are only on once a day because of the Star Treck movies going on three hours. There is supposedly a Walton special marathon on Monday(Labor Day) but I do not see it on my TVGUIDE or CABLE Connection magazine so far. The Jewish cap that Johnboy and the others were wearing at the Bar Mitzvah is called a Yarmulka. There are several possible ways to spell it because Hebrew contains no written vowels .They are determined by the position of the consonants in the word and are supplied from memory. Donald KAREN'S COMMENT: Donald also sends the link for a Ralph Waite article. Go to: http://www.post-gazette.com/ae/20010826waite0826fnp2.asp
Hi Karen, Thank you for taking the time to keep us informed through your newsletter. I would like to hear from Heidi about her story book about the Waltons. What do you know about Mary mcDonough's story and movie, "For the Love of may"? I would enjoy reading/seeing it. Ruth KAREN'S COMMENT: There was a small piece in a digest a while ago about Mary's film, which was taken from the Waltons International Fan Club magazine recently. I'll see if I can find it again, so look out for more details. In the meantime, if anyone has any more info on it can you please let us know?
From Shirley We are still having a heat wave here and it's September 8th. In regards to the show called "The Dustbowl Cousins", I picked up some funny details that are out of place. Point 1- While Jason and John Boy are in the store, John Boy tells Ike to put the can peaches back as his mother only gave him a dollar. (I really found it neat that they got that one bag of things for less then a dollar) Point 2- In the kitchen scene you see Mary Ellen putting peaches in a jar to can (why was Olivia getting can peaches when she was canning some) Point 3- In the scene where Grandpa and John Boy are talking in the berry patch, I notice they are picking strawberries, I don't know but I believe the strawberry season is in May and June. Peach season is in August. Richard Thomas Just read that Richard Thomas will appear as Charles Ingalls again in "Beyond the Prairie, Part 2: The True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder" It is believed that the TV movie will be shown some time in the Fall of 2001. KAREN'S COMMENT: Good points Shirley. I wish I could buy a big bag of things for a dollar! Hope you're keeping well. :-)
Hello Karen and All, Had a great 2 weeks watching the US Open. I was very pleased to see Lleyton Hewitt win, Karen. He really has become an incredible tennis player. Australia should be proud! This has been a particularly good 2 weeks for me on ebay. I got a set of guitar picks with the Walton's pictures (funny, there is no picture of Erin), I won a book of crossword puzzles the museum put out (says from the desk of John-boy on the front), Also won a Kite fun book put out by Pacific Gas and Electric, and lastly this morning I got the Walton Family cookbook (the one from 1975). Like I said before, it has been 2 good weeks. Ebay has several of the album that was released in the 70's if anyone is looking for it. I had a Walton's sighting this weekend. I was watching Entertainment Tonight. There was a section on the show Nanny and the Professor. G.W. Haines was the oldest boy on that show. My mom thought I was funny when I yelled "Hey, that's G.W!". They did mention he was on the Waltons. Lastly, I was doing a crossword puzzle in a TV Guide crossword book. They had in the back a classic puzzle from 1975. There were 3 clues that might be of interest to you all. The first was What Jim-Bob and Jason are to Olivia Walton (sons was the answer of course). The Next was John-Boys sister (that was MaryEllen). Lastly, the clue was Will ____ (of course we all know Geer). Apparently 1975 was a good crossword puzzle year for the Waltons. Karen you keep doing a great job! I look forward to each and every digest. Good Night All, -----Jennifer KAREN'S COMMENT: Sounds like you've picked up quite a lot of memorabilia Jennifer. Well done.
