WALTONS DIGEST 33-2001:

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note from me today as I'm in the middle of writing end of the year reports. It's a long, long weekend here, with today being a holiday for many schools and workplaces, although it's not meant to officially be a holiday, and then tomorrow is the Melbourne Cup Day, which is a public holiday here in Melbourne. So only two days of work for me this week which is quite a break as I've been doing 4 days a week recently. Our library will be moving some time next year and I need to do a lot of cleaning out in preparation. It's amazing how much stuff you accumulate. Did you ever stop to think how much stuff the Walton family would have gathered during their long stay in that house?

The VCE final written exams started on Friday with English. James said it was fine and was happy. For any of you English buffs out there, he answered questions on Cabaret (the musical film) and also the play Freedom of the City, in which he played the Judge earlier this year. His performance in it contributed to his final grade too, as it was classed as their oral presentation, so that was nice. This week he has Literature (Thursday) and Maths Methods (Friday) so it will be a busy couple of days for him. Tim has finished his exams and thinks he's on holidays!!!

Now I had a Richard Thomas question arrive during the week, which I have no idea about. Actually I sort of have an idea because I don't think he was in this particular movie being described, however maybe some of you will have some clues.

"Just wondering if you know the movie that I believe Richard Thomas starred in that was Christmas movie - I believe he played the part of a brother who blamed himself for his brothers death, and eventually apprenticed with a cabinetmaker and became a fine craftsman."

Does anyone know about this movie?

Have a great week everyone. Goodnight all.

Karen.

Hi Karen and All!

I've been really busy so I haven't had the chance to write for a few weeks. My dad's been working double time at health Canada with public protection and emergency relief. My birthday was a few weeks ago, a great success. Some friends and I went to see an ABBA concert. I haven't had a chance to watch the Waltons recently on TV. but I did pull out a tape yesterday and watched Mothers Day on Waltons Mountain. It was great to see them all again. I'm glad to hear about the Reunion. I hope to go someday. Congratulations from me on Eric and Cindy's new baby! That's neat that his real wife matched the name of his Walton Characters! That's it for today!

Goodnight everybody,

Robin

KAREN'S COMMENT: Hope you had a fun birthday, Robin, and the ABBA concert sounds a perfect way to celebrate.

Hi everyone!

Well Mary, Julia & I will be going for tea soon, we're just waiting for Mary to return from holidays!

I finally found the Walton's on TNN, 8 am p.s.t., and 9 or 10 pm p.s.t. I've enjoyed the shows this week as the true spirit of the show shines through.

I'm growing to love Olivia more and more each time I see an episode. :o)

Mid-terms and papers flood my weeks, and soon finals will be upon me! Christmas is 6 weeks away, and the time never stands still.

I hope everyone is well, and by the time the digest hits the email boxes, I'll have come & gone to Toronto, & hopefully NYC, if not, there's next year.

Off to an Octoberfest celebration! Stay warm, well, & stay safe!

G'night everybody!

~Nicole

KAREN'S COMMENT: So glad you 3 Waltons fans have found each other. You'll have fun chatting about the show. I am indeed staying warm. It's a shorts day today...29C and very sticky. Looks like rain later.

Glad to let you know that the Cable Connection Magazine for November arrived Saturday, and.... Thanksgiving Day November 22 will be celebrated by a Walton Marathon. I hope the website will have information about what programs will be carried and when.

Donald

KAREN'S COMMENT: That'll be the next big Waltons thing I guess. Let us know what's scheduled if you can.

Hello Karen, Hello everyone!!

I had mentioned a couple of digests ago that my uncle had seen Michael Learned at a theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. Well, I finally got the program he so graciously saved for me. The name of the production was "Social Security". Michael played a character named '"Sophie Greengrass". My uncle said that she was great! Naturally! The program does not clearly explain what the show was about, but had lots to say about the lead actress.......I'll try to give you the main highlights and info ......here goes...

"Few actresses have achieved the varied successes of Michael Learned. Classically trained in England, theater accomplished, Michael has gone on to win 4 Emmy awards for Best actress, star in numerous critically acclaimed projects for PBS, movies for television, and feature films and her extraordinary performances in the theater, including on Broadway the lead role of Sara Goode in Wendy Wasserstein's THE SISTERS ROSENSWEIG as well as the beautifully reviewed performances of the award-winning Edward Albee play THREE TALL WOMEN. Michael recently completed an enormously successful run of Gore Vidal's THE BEST MAN on Broadway for which she received rave reviews. She followed this with the world premiere of LOOKING FOR NORMAL costarring Beau Bridges and Laurie Metcalf. Ms. Learned initially achieved national recognition as Olivia Walton in the long-running hit TV series "The Waltons". She and the Waltons still appear to be among America's favorites as depicted in the recent TV GUIDE 40th ANNIVERSARY issue. Both Michael and the Waltons scored as the second all-time favorite in the Dramatic actress and Family TV show categories. Michael is an active member of the American Conservatory Theater, and there are 16 different plays listed in which many she was lead actress, if anyone is interested in the names let me know and I will compile them for the next digest! There is also a list of TV movies (!huge ), and several motion picture credits! It says that her and her husband are living in Los Angeles when not on location with respect to work. That's a wrap! Hope it isn't too much! Sounds like she is a very busy lady! Take care everyone!

Judy

KAREN'S COMMENT: Thankyou so much for that Judy. I have the most enormous admiration for such busy actors who continue to do theatre, and it's nice to know that so many of our Waltons family of actors have done that.

Hi Karen, Does anyone have any pictures on the internet of The Waltons Reunion…this recent one? Thanks for your help.

Lenore

KAREN'S COMMENT: I'm not sure but often Brenda puts hers up. Check out the forum at www.the-waltons.com and follow the links to the forum. There might be links from there. If anyone from the digest has put there's up can you please let us know?

There is one item Jennifer left out from the Will Geer legacy. He appeared as Santa Claus in Eight is Enough just before Christmas in 1977. He died 4 months later.

Donald

KAREN'S COMMENT: I loved that episode (s?). Not sure if it was a 2 parter. He was also on The Love Boat not long before he died.

Hi again there, Karen:

I just wanted to let you know that I've been catching some Walton's shows that I haven't seen in a while. I know where Elizabeth got the name Tyler from, Grampa! Zebulan Tyler Walton.

I also saw the "Big Brother" episode this morning, I forgot that was my favorite one! :o)

I met Julia for the first time for tea today! I think I found a new friend! :o) She's got a video I'm wanting to borrow! It's amazing who you meet in the city, her new hubby & I go to the same college, go figure!

Well, my trip back east is postponed due to my health, so I'm holding off until June or July next year, maybe by then I'd be able to bus to NYC too, we'll see, sooner or later I will get there!

Speaking of NYC, I spoke to my friend, Monica from Queens, NY today. It turns out her brother is safe, Thank God! It turns out he was mistakenly put on the "missing persons" list, he didn't even make it into work that day! Monica has cousins who worked at WTC, and they're all safe.

Well, that's about it from my corner of the world!

Goodnight everyone!

~Nicole

KAREN'S COMMENT: Yes I thought that Tyler came from Grandpa or his side of the family at least. As for The Big Brother. I love it too. Anyone know what happened to the young girl who played the guested in that?
