WALTONS DIGEST 48:

Hi everyone,

By now you are probably wondering if you are even getting a digest for this week! We are currently having problems with our computer and it needs to go in to be fixed. There is a problem with one of the cards in the computer, causing it to cut out continually, and with the spell of hot weather we are having at the moment, it is doing it frequently. As Tim and James are very busy with school work at the moment, with the end of the school year coming very quickly for them, we are trying to "limp along" and put up with the computer for another 2 weeks. It's very annoying though when, just as you are about to save something, the computer cuts out and it is lost. :-(

Anyway the point of my message is to let you know that I am having problems, and if you don't hear from me you will know why. We hope to have the computer in and fixed during the second week in December.

Talk to you all soon, Karen.

P.S. No "Karen's Comments" either until the computer is fixed. I'm sick of writing comments then losing them!!!!! Please feel free to send in your own comments though.

From Shirley B.

I did some more checking for Waltons today and found this online video store, that sells some Walton video tapes. The following is what they have:

http://www.videoexpress.com

All VHS tapes with titles or artist names that begin with "Waltons":

  • VHS Waltons-A Children's Carol
  • VHS Waltons-Day For Thanks On Waltons Mountain
  • VHS Waltons-Homecoming
  • VHS Waltons: A Children's Carol
  • VHS Waltons: A Thanksgiving Story

On another note someone spoke about grandpa being born in 1862, based on the episode "Empty Nest" it has on his headstone 1865-1941. I recall an episode where Earl Hamner spoke about his grandmother living to be in her 90's. I don't recall if grandma's age was ever spoken about. Oh! yes, I don't have any Walton November birthdays for you this month. In my family we have 7 birthdays to speak of and one of them is my Mother (Nov 23rd), who was born the same year that Earl Hamner Jr. was.

Hello Karen and fellow Digest readers!

I thought I'd let you know that I have (at last) transcribed the interview I had with Judy Norton ("Mary Ellen") in December 1990 and it's now added to my website. Also, Season 9 of the synopses is ready so I expect Ralph will be adding that to his site soon. That means there's "just the rest of them" to do, er, sometime...... (but it won't be for a while).

Best wishes to you all! Arthur D

Hello everybody!

This is my first post to the digest even though I've been a member for a few months. I'm so glad to "see" so many other fans of the show. I grew up with the show, being about Kami Cotler's age. Today, my father and I are still addicted to the reruns on the Family Channel and watch every night. I'm a big fan of old-time radio and get a kick out of the episodes where the family is sitting by the radio listening to the shows.

I was curious if anyone noticed something about an episode that was on a few nights ago. It was the episode where John-Boy teaches Verdie how to read and right. Verdie mentioned her daughter, Sara and other children. I don't recall her ever mentioning Sara and the other kids again, with the exception of another daughter that shows up in a much later episode. Has anyone else heard of the other children again?

Lynn asked whatever happened to David doremus, who played GW Haynes. well, I looked him up in my TV Encyclopedia, and it didn't mention anything other than "Nanny & the Professor," which ran for a couple of years since the very early 70's. It didn't even mention his role on the Waltons. So, perhaps he "retired" from show business after the Waltons? I don't think I've seen him around. Julie

Hi Karen and all Waltons fans!

This is my first post after enjoying many of the Digests. My name is Jim Craig and I live in Prescott, Arizona, "Arizona's Christmas City". I've been a fan of The Waltons since the day it premiered on CBS in September, 1972. I was 15 years old, and from then on, Thursday evenings at 8 were absolutely reserved for John, Olivia and family!! I was so hooked that, before U.S. syndication, I would watch the reruns in Spanish from a station in Tijuana, Mexico (We lived in nearby San Diego at the time). I didn't know the language but I remembered what was going on.

There's been some mention of the Waltons Christmas Album, and Karen said she'd like to know more about it. I'm lucky enough to own 2 copies, one bought new and the other I picked up in a thrift store!! It's a wonderful record, it begins with the Waltons theme performed in a Christmas style, with bells jingling in the background. Then Earl Hamner's narration begins each song, as he describes the activities on Walton's Mountain from Christmas Eve through the end of Christmas Day. "Grandpa's Christmas Wish", WIll Geer (as Grandpa) speaks of Christmases past and his wish for this year, as if he were speaking to the Walton children. The songs are performed by The Holiday Singers, don't know who they are, but many of the songs are performed as if carolers are singing to folks gathered around the stove at Ike's, very folksy and homey is the only way I can describe it. Oh, I wish this album would be released as a CD, my copies are very worn now!

Thanks, Karen, for the Web site and this wonderful Digest. Jim

Hi there everyone,

Watching one of my Walton episodes last night, I came across one of Aunt Rose's many little sayings. The episode was the Ride and Run race which Erin and Mary-Ellen entered. They came to the table both running late for breakfast and told Rose they weren't having any...Rose tried to talk them in to having something and used this line of reasoning......."Girls who skip breakfast as a matter of course, end up marrying a dog or a horse"!!!! I thought Rose added her own unique touch to the show.

Goodnight everyone Kaz in Oz
