WALTONS DIGEST 5-2000:

Hi everyone,

I do hope you've all had a great week. I heard someone on the radio speaking from LA yesterday, and he said how great the weather had been there. He was walking around in shorts and tee shirt, and it's still winter! I would imagine though that it's not the same everywhere though. I think I've seen pics again showing quite heavy snow again during the week too.

Our weather has been very hot again this week (it always happens when school goes back) and we've also had power problems again. This time its the electricity. The last couple of days we've had 40 degree heat and electricity rationing from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. It was a bit uncomfortable
yesterday afternoon, but I guess we just have to cope with it all. It was very nice once 7 came and we could put the air conditioning back on, especially since it was another very hot night. I don't think the temperature went below 30 degrees.

Anyway back to The Waltons. I noticed an interesting post on the Forum during the week, about people from the series who had died. The person had listed everyone they could find who had passed away, taking people from Spencer's Mountain, The Homecoming, The Waltons (series). What a fascinating list. Well worth a look. Go to the www.the-waltons.com site
and follow the links to the forum. If the message is not displayed, click on display all messages and you should get to see the message.

There's also a lot of Waltons items on sale at Ebay too, lately I've noticed. Some very nice photos that I haven't seen before. There listed as being CBS promotion photos, and again well worth having a look at. There's a nice one of Grandpa holding a pig, with Grandma looking on and quite a few others.

Well that's about it from me this week. There doesn't seem to be a lot of Waltons news at the moment, so please send me a note if you come across anything Walton related. Talk to you all again next week.

Goodnight everyone,
Karen.

Hello Karen and Fellow Waltons Fans:

I have an interesting to story to relate. As a writer for Mediaweek Magazine I attended the NATPE (National Association of Television Executives) convention last week in New Orleans. On the first morning as I headed into the press room I immediately noticed Joe Conley, who played Ike Godsey. Mary Beth McDonough (Erin) and Jon Walmsley (Jason) were also expected.

What a warm and friendly man. He told me that he remains very close to Eric Scott (Ben), who is remarrying in March. After the unfortunate death of his first wife, he met his new wife to-be at a bereavement meeting. He also mentioned that Kami Kotler (Elizabeth) is employed as a teacher at a Virginia school.

Regarding the next reunion movie Mr. Conley mentioned the premise might involve the Godseys moving in with the Waltons after a fire destroys the store. He wasn't sure when the special will be firmed.

Although I saw tons of celebrity faces at NATPE, nothing compares to seeing Joe Conley. I was proud to tell him I grew up with The Waltons.

Marc

KAREN'S COMMENT: What wonderful news! Can you imagine Corabeth and Olivia living together? Corabeth would always be trying to tell Olivia how to do things. What about the Baldwin sisters moving in? They'd be forever trying to make and taste Papa's recipe and would keep insisting that Olivia try some. :-) That would make for a funny episode. What other interesting scenarios can we come up with? Luck was certainly with you that day Marc.

Someone here mentioned being a John Denver fan. I just wanted to comment that the song he sang, "Take Me Home, Country Roads," makes me think of "The Waltons!" Except it's about West Virginia and not Virginia. But the lyrics sound like something you would imagine John-Boy thinking as he comes home to the Mountain from New York City for a visit!

Geri Ann

KAREN'S COMMENTS: Someone's signature further down includes some Denver lyrics. I always think of The Waltons when I hear that song too.

It was great to get up on a snowy Sunday a.m. to receive my Waltons digest. It's great to hear from other fans. You do a great job Karen.

June

KAREN'S COMMENT: I think you're very lucky to have the snow June. Like I said it's really hot here at the moment. Enjoy your weekend.

It might be that Elizabeth chooses to do missionary work. The only thing we have heard about the script that Earl submitted and this might be second or third hand knowledge is that it starts with John Walton having a heart attack. We don't know if its fatal or not either.

Donald

KAREN'S COMMENT: Having a heart attack would be a really dramatic way to start the movie. Everyone (all the kids that is) would probably rally around, making sure he's OK.

Hi again Fans,

This must be my week to do a little preaching if you will allow me! As I just watched "The Sinner" this week, I am thinking of the Walton characters and how the "Christian values" of the show are not as Christ-like as they are just "religious".

I would be proud and lucky to have a father like John Walton. For he tells his children what he believes and doesn't hide the fact that he doesn't believe all that the majority of "church-goers" claim to know about God. He tells John Boy he is old enough to decide for himself who is a sinner- Rev. Fordwick for his recipe indulgence? Yancy for nearly burning the barn down
while drunk? Daddy for not going to church or not being baptized? or himself just for being young and doubting what he has grown up believing? John knows that any sinner can be forgiven if he asks.

On the other hand, Olivia Walton is never as strong in her belief because she seems to just say "amen" to what all good Baptists are supposed to believe ( I am one of them). Have we seen her pray in private or read the Bible to help her through the day? All the children can understand Daddy better than Momma because of this. If I had children myself, I think they would know me well if they knew my private prayers. If I'm not praying, I'm not going to be much of a Christian role-model.

I love watching other episodes about their Christian background also. Like when Jim Bob decides to become a preacher. Another "The Sermon" I think, when John Boy preaches, is more of what John, Sr. believes than anything else. And "The Revival" is amazing to me when Cora Beth comes to the preacher at the "invitation" or gets baptized by the revival preacher and
she says something (I forget what it was exactly) that is not what a just-born Christian would say, but it does sound like Cora Beth.

If the last season had not continued with Mama gone to Arizona, maybe?? things would look different, but it was more interesting to see what they did write, than to write just another fairy-tale, daughter gets married, lives happily ever after, ending. Will all the kids grow up to be liberal
"Roosevelt-Kennedy" Democrats like Daddy?

Any further discussion is welcome (if Karen doesn't get too much), on this subject! :-)

May God bless you all,

Ed

KAREN'S COMMENT: Certainly some interesting views and comments you have made. I think I certainly have seen Olivia reading her bible but I can't think which episodes. She is perhaps not as relaxed in her views of others as I would think a Christian woman should be, however she does try to believe in the good in everyone, and never puts anyone down. Of course Grandma is particularly religious and it shows. It's Grandpa's view of Christianity that I particularly like though. He sees God all around him on the mountain, and doesn't need to go to church to find it. He is a bit of a cross between his wife and John. Corabeth always seemed to me that she just went to church to find out what the gossip is and to see who is wearing
what! Like some people I knew when I went to church when I was much younger. What are your views on this?

Greetings Karen and fellow Walton Lovers!

I am proud to report that I now have ALL episodes of Seasons 1 - 9 taped!!! EUREKA!!! I would say it took me a good 2 years to do it all. Most of the episodes are in order, but not all. If I cut out the commercials, and used a 160 min. tape I was able to get about 11 episodes per tape, otherwise with the commercials it holds about 8 episodes per tape. So, all in all my library consists of 29 tapes!!! I have all the specials, EXCEPT "A Walton Easter" which was originally shown on March 30, 1997. That was shown on my 12th Anniversary and we were out of town so I missed taping it.

They are back to Season 1 out here in Oregon, but they are way out of sequence. Funny thing, no matter how many times I see these episodes (on TV or tapes) I always enjoy sitting down
and watching them. Sure hope they will be doing another special soon!! I so enjoyed seeing ET's "A Walton Reunion" a few weeks ago. Did anyone notice that Eric Scott's fiancée is named 'Cindy'??? I thought that was a cute coincidence...'Ben & Cindy'...Eric & Cindy...

Friends With You,
Eve

there's still so much to do, so many
things my mind has never known..."

KAREN'S COMMENT: How lucky you are to have the whole series now. Our cable network is still showing episodes totally out of order, despite being told otherwise by someone I know!
