| WALTONS DIGEST 7-99:
Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. I can hardly believe that it is the end of February already. Here we are about to start autumn, although it is still very summery weather, and many of you will be heading into spring. The time is going so fast that I think it will be the end of the year before we know it. I wonder how many of you have tried Marca and Alex's quiz yet? They're getting a really good and different site together and have the 2 quizzes for people to try. Have a look at <http://www.oocities.org/TelevisionCity/3436/>. I have tried the first quiz only so far, and scored 11 out of 12. Some of the questions needing longer answers had me a bit stumped though. Anyway how about visiting and trying it out for yourself. Over in the USA I believe you are not far off finishing the Waltons series. Here in Australia we are into season 4 and still seeing it each weekday morning, while I think that those of you in Britain aren't seeing it at all! Marca mentioned last week that they haven't had it showing there either. I have also heard that "The Easter Story" will be shown around Easter time over in the USA, but is airing as "A Walton Crisis". I suspect that perhaps that one must have been repackaged in movie form and the rights might be being sold separately, as it was aired a couple of years ago in Australia as "A Walton Crisis", but it is definitely "The Easter Story" episode. Foxtel, our cable network, haven't aired that one, and have told me that they don't have the rights to it. I wonder if that's the only episode that this has happened with. The world of television really confuses and fascinates me with the way things are done. :-) Actually for those of you Waltons watchers in Australia, I received an email back from Foxtel regarding a query I had about our missing "The Bequest" episode, as well as "The Easter Story". Here's what they said: " I have good news about the episode "The Bequest", as it will air again on Tuesday 6 April at 6.00 AM. I have bad news about "The Easter Story". It seems that this is Part 2 and the 1st one was aired as a tele-movie, however, we do not have the rights to this particular episode. With regard to "The Conflict", I have no news about this one at all!! Our Programming Department is still searching our massive data base for confirmation that we will be screening this episode." As you would know, they did in fact air "The Conflict" just after my letter to them, but I'm wondering if their rescheduling of "The Bequest" is an indication that we might be finishing season 4, then starting at the beginning again? I hope not. I'm hoping that we'll get all of the seasons shown here. I guess we'll know by the end of next week though. And just before I go, I've finally had time to start reading my Waltons paperbacks that I bought early this year. I've been reading "The Waltons" and its very good. I love the way that the author has taken several episodes and woven them altogether into the story. They're a very nice addition to my Waltons collection. I really must go now though so.......... Goodnight everyone, Karen.
<<This is in response to one of Kaz in Oz's questions
Corabeth's father was Zeb Walton's brother. So that makes her John's cousin. -Beth>> Family trees are so confusing, especially fictional family trees! Geri Ann in Phoenix, AZ KAREN'S COMMENT: Very good question Geri Ann. I wonder if they are second cousins, not first cousins.
My wife and I were in a second hand store recently and my wife noticed a coloring book that said The Waltons on it. I picked it up and sure enough it is "The Waltons Coloring Book" by Whitman. I has the picture of the family on the front porch with John holding the radio. The book tells a story about the family getting a wedding invitation to Livvy's cousin's wedding. They decide to go, but on the way they have engine trouble. A girl comes along on a horse and brings the family to her house. It is Will Yarrow and old friend of John's. Will sees that John Boy is a writer and gives him a few tips. He enters a writing contest in which he takes first place. He and Will share the glory. They attend the wedding and have a great time. I thought it was nice to find something like that by accident. It only had a few color marks in it and was in pretty good shape. Thanks again I really enjoy the Waltons digest. Gary in Federal Way, WA. KAREN'S COMMENT: It's definitely fun to pick up these kinds of collectibles. I wonder if some of these collectibles originally belonged to any of our Digest members!
Good evening Karen and digest members! Last night the episode shown on TNN was "The Threshold", when John Boy writes and puts on a program for Boatwright's television department. Jim Bob builds a TV so everyone can watch it. Did anyone else notice in the beginning credits that this episode was written by Scott Hamner? Is this Earl Hamner, Jr.'s son? That's all from Ohio for now, Robin KAREN'S COMMENT: Yes I think that Scott Hamner is Earl's son.
Hi Karen. If you would like to see my Model 'A' like the one on the Waltons, type in MAFCA in your search engine, then go to photo album, then go to 1930, scroll down to coupes, and click on my name John Byington and there you have it my 1930 Model "A" coupe. The one that John Boy drives is either a 1928 or a 1929 though. PS. The weather here is very nasty today. We are getting 60 to 70 MPH winds on the waters of Puget Sound of which I live on a bluff overlooking. Have a great day down under. John
KAREN'S COMMENT: Thanks for the tip John. Is this the car that John Boy bargains for in "The Car"? It really is beautiful. Where's the photo been taken? I love vintage cars but have a very non-handy husband. Perhaps I should learn to restore them myself! Hope the weather has settled down by now. It's a wonderful day here...not too hot, just right. Hello Karen...whoops sorry off to a good start! - I've just replied with a blank message - so apologies and please delete that last one from me! I'd just like to say how excited I am at becoming part of your mailing list and I really enjoyed reading the first installments from you and the other members! I'm from England and like Arthur D we get the Waltons on Channel 4 on a Sunday when, as Arthur mentioned - the continuity announcer infamously talks over the credits and theme music! But I love the Waltons and wouldn't miss it for the world - and get it taped when I'm not around when it's aired. I am dying to see some of the specials as I don't have cable or anything - I heard about John Boy's Wedding - so I am hoping I'll get a chance to see that somehow! Don't you just wish you belonged to that family at times?! I've a couple of questions I'd like to throw open and apologies if this has all been talked about on previous mailing lists. Firstly, I am hoping to visit the Museum this year on holiday and although I've read lots about it on the internet and can visualize it, I'd just be interested to hear first hand reports about it and for example, is it easy to travel to? Also I have heard that there is a Waltons cruise happening this December to coincide with a Waltons Album - does anyone have any info on this at all? I'm looking forward to becoming more involved and hope to hear from you soon! Kerith
KAREN'S COMMENT: Hopefully some of our readers can help you with the information you're after Kerith. Glad you're enjoying reading the digests. |
