Of these 13 ships, only the Enterprise survived to return to Spacedock at the end of the original 5 year missions, and as such, the Enterprise underwent refit to become the Upgraded Constitution Class, otherwise known as the Enterprise Class.

This necctated a complete rebuild of the man pylons, giving them a swept-back look, as well as the addition of a photon torpedo deck, which sits just abovethe secondary hull and which houses the photon torpedo firing chambers, cases, and explosive payloads.
