You have surfed into
a tribute site to some
of the best in BBC comedies, captured here in the form of
Windows95/98 Desktop Themes for you to download and enjoy. One of
my recent themes was inspired by the refreshingly different BBC2
TV comedy series Goodness Gracious Me staring
the talents of writer/performer Sanjeev
Bhaskar ably supported by Kulvivnder
Ghir, Meera Syral and Nina
Wadia who, incidentally, is the only member of the
cast who is actually Indian.
has chosen this comedy as a worthy addition to its
collection of TV comedy desktop themes as it is rich in fine
examples of comedy sketches played by the four principle actors
and will, we feel sure, go on to become another BBC classic.
Whether it will achieve the success overseas as some of its more
illustrious predecessors have remains to be seen, as much of the
humour is distinctly Anglo-Indian, nevertheless in the humble
opinion of
it is a very funny show.

The first series consisted of six episodes and was originally
transmitted between 12 January 1998 and 16 February 1998. The
second series followed later in the year and aired on BBC2 during
October/November 1998. This Anglo-Asian sketch show takes a light
hearted look at the Anglo-Asian community in the UK in the 90's.
Whether it is a gentle ribbing or a poke in the eye with a sharp
stick you can't fail to identify the characters and comic
situations that this show creates. Some of my favourite sketches
include the Buddhist rodent killer; the Techno-Bangra ("kiss
my chuddies") Boys; the more than English Kapoor's
("pronounced Cooper") and Mr. Everything Comes From
India, as you may have guessed from the sound clip which
accompanies this page.
for June 1999 - Peter
Richards, Audience Co-ordinator of Hat Trick Productions
writes..... Channel 4 has lined up a
new sitcom from Hat Trick Productions. Perrier award-winner
Tommy Tiernan stars in Hewitt, a new 6 x 30-minute series about
hapless twenty-something's stuck on the 'mediocre rung of life.
Hat Trick joint managing director Jimmy Mulville bills the show
as 'high street comedy' centered on Tiernan as a video shop owner. It's
about people who are aimless and feckless, and are friends in and
out of each other's shops. The sitcom is written by
'Goodness Gracious Me' writers Richard Pinto and Sharat Sardana.
It also stars Sanjeev Bhaskar from the BBC show. Recordings of
the new show will be taking place at The London Studios, South
Bank throughout June and July. Free tickets are available for the
show by calling the Hat Trick Box Office on 0171 287 1598 or
1599. More information and tickets can be booked through the Hat Trick
Productions Website
for July 1999 - Peter
Richards, Audience Co-ordinator of Hat Trick Productions provides
an update on the new sitcom from writers of the award winning
show Goodness Gracious Me.
The name of the new sitcom is to be called Hewitt and centers on Ed Hewitt who
works at Screendreams, a video shop in Leytonstone, that is home
to daytime loafers of every sort. He has to deal with sexually
over-ambitious pharmacists, frustrated documentary makers, and
socially inept anoraks... and they're just his friends! As John
Lennon once said, "Life is what happens to you when you're
making other plans". Hewitt
is about the other plans.
All recordings take place at the London Studios on the
Southbank every Friday in July. If you would like to book FREE
tickets call the Hat Trick Box Office on 0171 287 1598 or 1599.
Tickets can also be booked via our web site Hat Trick
Productions Website
Let's Go for an English
Another of my favourite sketches is the "Let's go for an
English" sketch - the traditional Bombay Friday night out -
getting tanked up on lassis and going out for an English ...
Girl1: "I say young
man, youre my 'mite' arent you, Jamid."
Girl 1 to Girl2:
"Jamid's my 'mite'".
Waiter: "Actually it's
James.
Girl1: "Jams,
yes that's what I said!"
Girl1 to Girl2: Hasn't
he got lovely pale skinia, it's really nice and pasty
looking."
Girl 2 to Girl1: Yeah, you
know what that say about white men..."
Man1: "All right, all
right, what are we having now?"
Man1: "First off we'll
have 10...., no 12 bread rolls, and bring a pack of that fancy
stuff...."
Man2: "Butter?"
Man1: "OK, main course
what's everyone having?"
Man2: "What's the
blandest thing on the menu?"
Waiter: "Scampi is
particularly bland."
Man2: "I'll have that
and bring a fork and knife."
Man1: "I'm gonna have
the same as him, except I'm also gonna have.... prawn
cocktail."
