BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
All the character except Sandra and Jack belong to Joss Whedon. Please don't sue.

Buffy got off at San Francisco. She didn't know what she was doing there. It was just a place to think. As she walked down the street, she heard slow saxophone music. Looking around, Buffy tried to find the source of the music.

On the roof of an abandoned building a tall, pretty teen girl of 19 years old was sitting on the edge of the roof playing an alto saxophone. A case and backpack were laying nearby. The girl stopped and looked up at Buffy. "You're a Slayer aren't you?" Buffy nodded. The girl set the sax down and hopped off. "Okay. I need an explanation. The former Slayer was reported to have died, but here you are." "Kendra. She was the Slayer who died." "And you must you must have died then been revived, right?" "Yeah. So, who are you?" the girl put her sax in the case and gathered her stuff. "Sandra. You?" "Buffy. Buffy Summers." "Come on. I'll take you to my place."

Inside Sandra's apartment, Buffy set her bag on a chair. "You live here alone?" Sandra tossed her case and bag on the floor and said, "Yep. When I get lonely, I read." Buffy looked at the stacks of books. "You've got quite a collection." Sandra looked. "Yeah. But most of them aren't mine. They're my aunt's. I received them when she died. She must have known I'd be a Slayer." Buffy looked at the old books and asked, "Do you have anything on Acathla?" "Yeah, why?" "The person who's worthy to free him. Once they're trapped in Hell, is there anyway to free them?" "There sure is." She went to a shelf and pulled out a book. "The spell to bring back the worthy demon is described in chapters 3 through 5 in the Dunbar Chronicles." Sandra flipped through and found the spell. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Sandra pulled out a stake. She looked through the spy hole in the door, then opened the door. "Can I help you?" Buffy looked panicked. "Spike." Sandra looked at Spike then at Buffy. "Okay. Obviously you two know each other." Spike said, "May I come in?" Sandra nodded. "Try anything, and I kill you." Spike went in to the room and said, "I'm not a bad guy anymore." Sandra lowered the stake and looked at him. "No. You have soul. I can tell." Spike flopped down on a chair and said, "Yep. I had some of my friends do it." Buffy asked, "Why?" "I accidentally killed Dru. I dreamt I was fighting your buddy Ford. I killed him. When I woke up, all that was left of Dru was a pile of ashes." Sandra said, "Maybe you can help us. We need to free someone from the pit of Hell." Buffy elaborated. "Before I sent Angel into the vortex, he got his soul back. I want to get him out." Sandra showed Spike the spell. "I know the spell, we just need the materials." Spike read over the spell. "I can work this. Let's get back to old Sunnydale."

"Expelled? When?" Willow said, incredulous. Giles nodded. "The night Acathla was defeated." Cordelia frowned. "Poor Buffy. What should we do?" A voice said, "I suggest we go to the Bronze." They turned around and looked at Buffy and Sandra who were standing at the door. Willow ran to Buffy and hugged her. Xander followed the example. "Buffy! What are you doing here?" Giles said, "Why didn't you call? We were wondering what had happened." Buffy said, "I'm sorry, Giles. I needed some time to think." Giles looked at Sandra. "Who are you?" Sandra responded, "I'm Sandra. I'm a Slayer." At Giles confused look, Willow said, "Kendra." Buffy nodded. "Yeah. She's Kendra's replacement." Sandra set her things down and said, "I was talking to Buffy. She, Spike and I are going to get Angel out of the vortex." At the confused looks, Buffy explained what exactly had gone on since she had defeated Acathla. After the explanation, Giles looked at Sandra. "You have the Dunbar chronicles?" "Yeah. It was part of my aunt's collection." "Oh. May- May I see?" "Sure." She pulled out one of the books and handed it to him. Giles opened it and quickly read over some of the text. "This is extremely interesting. May I borrow it?" "Sure. But back to the subject. I need something of Angel's before I can safely pull him out of the vortex." Buffy thought then pulled a ring out of her pocket. She gave it to Sandra and said, "Angel gave it to me. Will it work?" "Yeah. Okay, now all we need is something with Angel's blood on it and the blood of someone who has Angel as a sire." Buffy thought and responded, "Spike. He was bitten by Angel." "Okay. Any idea where Spike is?"

*****************************************************************

At the mansion that was the former residence of the vampires of Sunnydale, Buffy and Sandra looked for something that might have Angel's blood on it. Buffy looked around and saw a dagger with spots on dried blood on it. Spike stepped out of the shadows and said, "That's Angel's blood in case you're wondering." Sandra slid her mini backpack and set down the long stick she had brought along. She tied Buffy's ring on the end of the stick and gave Spike the Latin incantation. Sandra picked up the dagger and stuck it in the hole where the sword used to be. Acathla's mouth opened and the vortex appeared. At that moment, Spike began the incantations. After a few minutes, Angel appeared in the center of the vortex. Sandra pointed the stick with the ring towards the vortex. She took a deep breath and said, "Demon Angelus, I call. Bring your soulful form from the pit of Hell." Suddenly, Angel flew out of the vortex and landed on the floor at Buffy's feet. As Buffy helped him up, Spike said a final spell and the vortex closed. He went over and pulled out the dagger. "Well, I'll go get the sledgehammers." Spike went to a closet and pulled out two sledgehammers. Together, he and Sandra reduced Acathla to a pile of broken pieces.

That night, Sandra was sitting at a table at the Bronze watching Angel and Buffy slow dance together. Spike came over and sat down next to her. "You didn't need my blood?" Sandra shook her head. "We only needed the blood if the vortex couldn't be closed." "You know, I like you. I don't know why, but I do." "I feel the same way, but we can't." "Well, the vampire/Slayer thing, sure, but it worked for Buffy and Angel." "Until they went to bed together." "But Angel's curse didn't have a seal on it." "I understand the Drusilla thing, but why else did you want a soul? Really?" "I like this world. I wanted to keep it from being destroyed. And I wanted emotions." Sandra smiled and said, "Okay. But let's go slow." "Sure, pet. Sure." Spike leaned over and kissed her. As he pulled back he said, "I've never kissed a Slayer before." "I've never been kissed by a vampire before." As they kissed, Buffy looked at them and smiled. Angel followed her gaze. "De'ja' vu, isn't it?" Buffy nodded. "Lucky her." Angel put his arms around her and gave her a passionate kiss.

The next day, Sandra and Buffy went to Buffy's house. Sandra knocked on the door. Joyce Summers opened the door. "Oh! Buffy! Oh!" Joyce hugged her daughter. "I'm so sorry I didn't listen." Buffy said, "It's okay, mom." Sandra said, "Hi. I'm Sandra." Joyce looked at her. "Hi. Are you a Slayer, too?" "Yeah." "Would you two like to come in?" Buffy and Sandra went in and sat down in the living room. Joyce brought out some coffee and cookies. She looked at Buffy and asked, "Did you find what you went looking for?" "Yeah, mom. I did." "Buffy, Principal Snyder told me about his expelling you. He'll let you back in to school, but you have to tell him about the Slayer thing." Buffy looked at her mother. "Do I have to?" "Yes." Sandra placed a hand on Buffy's shoulder. "I'll go with you." The two Slayers left and went to the high school.

*****************************************************************

"A Slayer. I don't believe it." Snyder said, slightly amused. Buffy looked seriously at him. "It's true. Test me." "All right. Who is the demon who controls time?" "Easy. Grosaak. I've tangled with him before. I also know that we're on a Hellmouth." "Fine. You're no longer expelled. But I'll be keeping tabs on you, Summers."

As Sandra and Buffy went to the library, Sandra asked, "What's his deal? Was he attacked by a demon when he was young or something?" "I don't know." In the library, Giles was talking to Willow. Xander came over. "Buffy, Sandra. What's happening?" Sandra smiled. "Nothing. Big bunch of nothing." "What about between you and Spike?" Sandra asked, "Who told you about that?" "Buffy. So how is Spike?" "Fine. So, what's been going on?" Giles said, "Nothing at the moment. Acathla has been destroyed, and there are no other immediate threats that I'm aware of." Sandra looked at him. "What about the Dunbar chronicles? Anything?" Giles shook his head. "Nothing at the moment, but I'm still looking." "Good." Xander said suddenly, "There is one thing." Sandra looked at him. "What?" "Here. See for yourself." Sandra looked at the section of the book he handed her. "Oh my God!" She looked at Xander. "How accurate is this?" "Really accurate." Giles read the section. "Oh my." Sandra sat down on the couch on the side of the library. "I wasn't even Slayer for a year." "Sandra," Giles said. "This isn't 100% accurate." "So, how do we prevent my untimely demise?" "W-Well it basically says, 'The Slayer of 1998 will be killed at the hands of the Anointed One.'" Xander thought and said, "So, what do we do?" Giles said, "Well, we need to get some information. Find out where the Anointed one could be. Meanwhile, I suggest you try to relax." Sandra looked doubtful but said, "Sure. I'll try."

************************************************************************

That night at the Bronze, Sandra was still depressed. Spike tried to cheer her up. "What's wrong, luv? Bad day?" Sandra gave a weak smile. "Something like that." "So what happened?" "Just a prophecy that says that I'm supposed to die." "Tough. Who's supposed to do the killing?" "The Anointed One. Whoever that is." "I wouldn't worry." "Why?" "I, um, kind of killed him. About a year ago." "That's the best news of today." "So now that you're not going to get it, how about a dance?" "I'd like that." As Spike led her to the floor, he asked, "So, how old are you?" "20. How old are you?" "200." "You look good for your age. You don't look a day older than 23." "So where are you staying?" "At this hotel. It's okay. What about you?" "I'm bunking with Angel at his loft." Sandra stopped and looked at Spike. She gave a short laugh and said, "I feel really awkward." "Is it me?" "No. I've just- I've never- I don't- I've just never been on a date before in my life. This is all new to me." "Hey, relax, pet. I won't rush you." Sandra kissed him. She then pulled back and said, "I love you." "I love you, too. Huh. I've never really loved anyone before." Spike looked away. "I, uh, need to get something to eat." "I'll come with you." "Sure. Why not?" Spike took Sandra to Angel's loft. He opened a refrigerator and took out a packet of blood. His face shifted into that of the vampire demon. He tore into the bag and began to drink. When he was finished, his face went back to human. Sandra asked, "You okay?" "Yeah. Thanks." "No problem." "So what now, pet? A walk?" "Sure. Sounds like fun."

************************************************************************

As they walked through the cemetery Sandra asked, "So, do you have any hobbies? Besides the usual vampire activities." "No." Sandra looked at him. "I've been trying to place the accent. Australian?" "Actually, it's English. I was born in Liverpool." "Cool. I'm from New Jersey." "Sounds fun." "Kind of." Sandra looked at a grave and saw something moving. Then they both heard a scream. The two ran to the source. A vampire was trying to kill a small girl. Sandra kicked the offending vamp. As the undead being tried to attack, Spike staked him. As Sandra watched the vampire explode into dust she smiled at Spike. "Thanks for the assist." "No problem, ducks. A pleasure." "I better get going. I'm tired." "I'll escort you." "Thanks. That's really sweet of you."

******************************************************************************

They went to the hotel and went to Sandra's room. After they went in Sandra's room, the Slayer kicked off her shoes and sat down on the bed. "How long till sunrise?" "An hour. Give or take." "Maybe you should get back. I'll be fine." "Alright. See you tomorrow?" "Sure. I'll meet you at the Bronze." "8:30." "See you then." Spike turned and left. Sandra picked up the phone and called her Watcher. "Hey, Jack." "Sandra! Thank God! Where are you?" "Sunnydale. And, I'll be staying." "I'll contact the Watcher there and let him know. Rupert Giles, right?" "Right." "You do know there can only be ONE Slayer?" "Well, in this town, I think two Slayers would be better." "Okay. I trust your judgement. Bye, Sandra." "Bye, Jack." Sandra hung up and went for a late night dip in the hotel's pool. As she walked to the edge of the pool, Sandra felt someone watching her. Shrugging it off, she dove gracefully into the water. As Sandra resurfaced, she saw Angel sitting on a deck chair. "How's the water?" "Fine. What are you doing here?" "Buffy and I were talking. About you." Sandra got out and toweled off. "About my taste in men?" She sat down on the chair next to Angel. "Spike is a really nice guy. Sure vampire, but he's a good vampire." "Spike was one of the cruelest vampires ever." "Angel, I love Spike. I appreciate the concern, but I love him. And he loves me." "I just don't want you to go through what Buffy and I went through." "Don't worry. Now, I have to get some sleep. I'm not a night creature like you."

******************************************************************************

At Angel's loft, Spike was drinking from a bag of blood. Angel came in. "Let up. Delivery day isn't for two weeks." Spike finished and tossed the bag in the garbage. "I was hungry, mate." "So, how are things going between you and Sandra?" "I love her. She's like no one else I've ever met." "So you love her." "Yeah. In a certain extent, I love her more than Dru." Angel asked, "What happened to Dru?" "I accidentally killed her." "So you wanted a soul." "I like having a soul. It's let me experience things I've never felt before." "Yeah."

******************************************************************************

The next day, Buffy was talking to Sandra. Sandra said, You know what's weird? That as Slayer, the only guys we've found are vampires with souls." "It's really odd." "But think, they know how to treat girls." True. But isn't it hard knowing that they'll live forever, but we'll die someday?" "Yeah." "Oh. Spike caught me as I was leaving to patrol. He asked me to give you something." "What?" Buffy gave Sandra a sealed envelope. Sandra opened it up. It was a letter. "Spike wants me to go to the mansion on Crawford Street. He's got a surprise for me." Buffy looked at her. "You should go." "I don't know." "Trust me. Go." "I will. I should probably head over now if I want to be there by sundown. Let Giles know." "Sure." Sandra started to leave out. Buffy said, "Hey!" Sandra turned around. "Take this." She tossed Sandra a key. Sandra caught it and left.

******************************************************************************

She got to the mansion just as the sun went down. She used the key to get in and waited. She heard someone behind her and whipped around. "Hello, pet." Spike said. "You got my message?" "Yep. So what's this surprise?" "I was going to invite you to stay here." "I'd love to. It's a really nice place." "Let me show you around." Spike gave Sandra a tour around the mansion and finally led her to the garden. Sandra stopped and kissed him full on the lips. "So what's this surprise you'v enot been showing me?" "Close your eyes, luv." Sandra closed her eyes, as Spike turned on a spot light. "Okay, pet." Sandra opened her eyes. "Oh! A rose\lilac mix! It's gorgeous!" "Do you like it, baby?" "I love it." She wrapped her arms around his neck and planted a kiss on his lips. "And I love you, Spike." "I love you, too, pet."
