Episode # 33:The Lonely Battlefield.
Short Summary: Fighting continues in space as Zechs Marquis battles Oz; on earth Quatre & Heero are still resisding in the Sanc Kingdom, looking after Relena. Invited by Duke Dermail Relena leaves for a peace conference where she's confronted about Zechs Marquis actually being her brother Miliardo Pacecraft. While she's away Heero goes to fight at the Luxemburg Base.
Transcript:
[Scene: Sanc Kingdom]
[Quatre is playing a sad melody on the piano. He finishes the song and looks up surprised as someone claps. ]
Quatre: Huh?
Noin: That's beautiful. I didn't expect you to be a talented muscian Quatre.
Quatre: I hae been fond of music since I was a young boy. I enjoy playing instruments becuase they make me feel relaxed.
Noin: That song was very melancholy thought... You mustn't keep blaming yourself for the things that happened. When there's a war going on, there's some things that can't be helped.
Quatre: It can't be brushed aside as something inevitable. Wars are paid with human lives. If I'd been a stronger person then that wouldn't have happened to Trowa.
[looks out window a moment.]
Quatre: Ms. Noin, don't you have some information for me about Oz?
Noin: Of course. The whereabouts of Treize is still unknown, but Oz considers the Treize Faction as retailators and battles around the world are intesifying. However, Oz still has the advantage. There's no way an average pilot could compete with the abilities of the mobile dolls.
Quatre: I think we stand a decent chance against the mobile dolls, and I'm not merely bragging. We could do it with superior mobile suits like the gundams, that's a fact. but even if we destroyed the mobile dolls in battle, the war wouldnt' come to an end. Itf there's one thing we've learned in our experience it's that there's a limit to what a pilot can accomplish.
Noin: Won't Ms. Relena... won't the Sanc Kingdom be able to comfort soldiers such as yourself Quatre?
Quatre: I'm sure people could feel relaxed here. Perhaps people tainted with blood shouldn't be here... I think Heero feels the same way.
[Scene: computer. Sanc Kingdom's Hangar.] [Heero is reading some information on his computer. ]
Heero: Hmmmm
Narrator: Operation Nova, the plan to send mass produced mobile dolls from outer space to strife torn areas on the earth was steadily producing results. By displaying the threat of the mobile dolls, Oz was able to increase it's influence over the people, while the Romefeller Foundation was establishing it's position to rule the world.
[Scene: Space. Mobile doll transports are heading toward the earth. ]
Soldier 1: We're ready to enter the atmosphere.
Soldier 2: It looks like there won't be any interference, this time.
Solider 3: Right, I think we're safe.
Solider 1: Detecting strong heat! A mobile suit is approaching...
[Transport explodes.]
Soldier 2: Blast!
Solider 1: It's the Tallgeese, I'm sure of it!
[More transports are destroyed. ]
Solider: We're the only ones left!
Commander: Send out the mobile dolls to counter attack!
[Dollsa re released and are promptly destroyed by tallgeese. ]
Commander: They're all defeated, a human pilot can't defeat a mobile doll.
[The final carrier explodes. ]
Howard: This is peacemillion, we'll leave this area after taking in the Tallgeese.
[Shows Zechs in cockpit. ]
Howard: That was impressive, Lightining Count.
Zechs: Well that's all I'm really capable of doing right now. I cannot begin to thank you enough there Howard...
Howard: Hey! We're only helping each other out here, dont' worry about thanking me.
Zechs: In that case, could I ask you to tune up the Tallgeese?
Howard: What for? You didn't receive any damage.
Zechs: It just seems to be responding a little bit slow...
Howard: That's because your reaction time is too quick. Your skills have surpassed the capablities of the Tallgeese in a short time. I'll take it in..
[Tallgeese lands on platform and is lowered inside. ]
Zechs: (thinking: Forgive me Relena, I'm going to continue living as Zechs Marquis. It's in the best interest of the Sanc Kingdom.
[Scene: Fortress Barge.]
Duke Dermail: (on vid phone. ) Did you say Zechs Marquis?
Tubarov: Yes, he came to outer space as ambassador Miliardo Pacecraft from the Sanc Kingdom and has been hiding out ever since.
Duke Dermail: The Sanc Kingdom you say? This is annoying...
Tubarov: I agree...
Duke Dermail: Many countires still support the total pacifism practised by the Sanc Kingdom's deceased king. What's evern worse is that many people within the Foundation are leaning toward the idea.
Tubarov: How can that be? Romfeller has possession of the invincible mobile dolls.
Duke Dermail: Hmph, invisible you say? Don't you see that Zechs Marquis has destroyed them?
Tubarov: Yes...
Duke Dermail: Our next target point is the Luxembourg Base, am I right?
Tubarov: Yes, we'll all prepared. This time Zech's won't get his way...
Duke Dermail: I'm counting on it. I'll see what I can do on this end to crush his home base.
[Scene: Duke Dermail's Office. ]
Duke Dermail: The Sanc Kingdom huh? This might be the right time to destroy it.
[Scene: Sanc Kingdom.]
[Heero is reading on a park bench. Relena approaches. ]
Relena: I thought I might find you here...
Heero looks up surprised: Relena...
Relena: Can I sit beside you?
Heero: It's your country, you can do what you want.
Relena: Guess so.
[She sits down beside him and gazes around a moment before addressing him. ]
Relena: WHy have you been kind enough to stay here in my country Heero? In the past you would've gone off to fight battles.
Heero: Hmmm? [He looks up from his book at her. ]
Relena continues: No matter how much I tried to stop you. You went back into outer space, but your homeland didn't treat you very kindly at all. It must have been so hard, yet despite that you continue to carry on fighting. You've got an intensity in your eyes that hasnt' changed since the first time we met.
Heero: Huh? I'm just-
[Dorothy approaches. ]
Dorothy: Oh, I'm sorry for interupting you Ms. Relena.
Relena: Hi Dorothy, were you looking for me?
Dorothy: This is an invitation from the Romefeller Foundation.
[Hands Relena a white and gold envelope. ]
[Scene: Relena changes into Sanc Kingdom Uniform.]
Duke Dermail's voice as he reads letter sitting on Relena's desk: Thanks to Oz's under taking we're close to ending all disputes around the world.
[Knock on door. ]
Duke Dermail continues: As such we would like to know more about the Sanc Kingdom pacifism to prepare us for the world peace that will likely follow the end of the war.
[Noin & Relena walk down the stairs, Heero & Quatre watch. ]
Duke Dermail continues: We are therefore sending this invitation requesting your presence Ms. Relena Pacecraft at our conference to be held in Brennon.
[Dorothy's car pulls up and she gets out. ]
Dorothy: I have been asked to escort you to the conference Ms. Relena. I can't tell you what a thrill it is to be able to accompany you. Please... get in.
Relena: That's very kind of you Dorothy.
Noin: Ms. Relena, please allow me to accompany you.
Dorothy: No, there's no need for that. Ms. Relena is our special guest. Romefeller will take the responsiblity of getting her there.
Noin: Ms. Relena...!
Relena: Ms. Noin take care of things here while I'm gone.
[Relena begins to get in the car but pauses as she sees Heero watching her. She steps away and shouts up to him.]
Relena: Heero, I want you to make me a promise. I don't want you to leave here without telling me first!
[Heero just stares at her, and then nods. ]
Dorothy: We should be on our way Ms. Relena.
Relena: Let's go.
[Relena & Heero share a last look before she gets in the car and she leaves.]
Quatre: Are you just going to let her go then? As far as Romefeller is concernedthis countries ideas are dangerous, who knows what they might do to her.
[Heero walks away. ]
Quatre: Heero!
[Scene: Quatre & Heero in Sanc Kingdom's Hangar with Wing]
Quatre: Heero, what are you trying to do?
Heero: A large number of mobile dolls are expected to arrive in Luxemburg.
Quatre: What?
Heero: The Treize Faction HQ is in Luxemburg. It looks like the Romefeller Foudatnion is trying to crush them all at once.
Quatre: They're going to send this many mobile dolls to earth? Even Luxemburg won't have a chance.
Heero: Once the battle's won those mobile dolls will be distributed over the world.
[Begins to get inside wing. ]
Quatre: gasps, your crazy! Even you can't defeat so many mobile dolls by yourself. If you're going then I'm going with you.
Heero: No, you stay here.
Quatre: But why?
Heero: You can't afford to die at this stage of the game. Not until you find Trowa.
[Wing rises on platform & launches. Noin runs inside. ]
Noin: What's going on here Quatre? Where's Heero?
Quatre: Heero has made a decision. He's chosen to fight where he has the least chance of survival.
[Commercial.]
[Scene: Space. Howard & Zechs are watching the transport of mobile dolls being sent to Luxemburg.]
Howard: That's an unbelievable amount of suits just to destroy one base.
Zechs: Which merely proves what a strategic point the Luxemburg base is...
Howard: I guess if they were fighting against the Lightning Count they would have to have that many dolls.
Zechs: I'm gonna fight them with all I've got no matter what their plans are.
[He launches toward the shipment of dolls in Tallgesse. ]
Zechs: (thinking) Luxemburg previously fought to take over it from the Alliance, now I'm fighting to defend it. Talk about irony.
[Scene: Tubarov.]
Tubarov: Zechs has arrived just as we suspected. All shuttles ignore Tallgeese & head straight toward the atmosphere. We must conquer Luxemburg at all costs.
[Scene: Romfeller HeadQuaters. ]
[Dorothy escorts Relena to Duke Dermail. 11 Diplomats are seated around a table. ]
Duke Dermail: Welcome Ms. Relena Pacecraft.
Relena: Thank you very much for inviting me today.
Duke Dermail: I'm so pleased to be able to meet with you. Many thanks for your help Dorothy.
Dorothy: I am delighted to be of assistance. I shall excuse myself now. I wish you the best of luck Ms. Relena. [Leaves the room and laughs, standing at the door. ] (thinking:) Now Ms. Relena you can show us just what you're made of. Don't disappoint me.
[Scene: Inside Conference Room.]
Relena: It's a fact that the Sanc Kingdom can't employ our peace initative without your assistance. But your Oz Organization is initiating wards all around the world. How could the Romefeller Foundation power produce to completely different results? It's becuase the decision on how to use all this power is made by people right? If peace is truly your objective, I ask that you use our Sanc Kingdom as your model in your peace objections.
[Silence until Duke Dermail claps.]
Duke Dermail: That was wonderful. You have very sound beliefs for a woman as young as yourself. But I can't ignore the hypocroses within the Sanc Kingdom.
Relena: What hypocrcies?
Duke Dermail: Let me explain. [Turns on monitor and shows Tallgeese fighting.] Recently a certain individual has been attacking Oz troops and leaving us with considerable damage. [Image of Miliardo appears on screen. Relena gasps.] He's approached the space colonies as Ambassador Miliardo Pacecraft of the Sanc Kingdom but lately he's appearched as Zechs Marquis. The Tallgeese pilot has currently considered an enemy of Oz.
[Space: Zechs is fighting in Tallgeese. ]
Zechs: Blast! It's responding too slowly!
[Scene: Romefeller.]
Duke Dermail: Fighting against Oz is the same as opposing Romefeller. Is it safe to assume that the Sanc Kingdom has some aggressive ambitions?
[Relena lowers her head. ]
Relena: Is that pilot still calling himself Miliard Pacecraft?
Duke Dermail: Well... no, he isn't.
Relena: Then he's clearly not my elder brother Miliardo.
[Duke Dermail looks up shocked as the other diplomats in the room. ]
Relena: The Pacecraft Family wants nothing but peace. As a family member it's impossible my brother could pilot a mobile suit and fight.
Dorothy: THen you dont' care what happens to him?
Relena: It has nothing to do with the Sanc Kingdom.
[Chattering. ]
Duke Dermail: I understand it appears we've made some false assumptions. WE'll take appoperiate measures and deal with this traitor Zechs on our own. My apologies for doubting the Sanc Kingdom.
Relena: Then if you will please excuse me from this meeting gentlemen.
[Relena leaves. ]
Duke Dermail: The Sanc Kingdom... how frustrating!
[Scene: Another room, Dorothy has been watching the meeting. ]
Dorothy: That was quite the show Ms. Relena. I could tell there was something special about you.
[Walks to window. ]
Dorothy: You can't use dolls in a war it's meaningless unless it's fought between people. And for that to happen there's a lot more for you to do Ms. Relena. And for the time being, you can count on my assistance.
[Scene: Relena walks outside toward her car where Pagan is waiting for her. ]
Relena: Milardo, you knew exactly what I could say. That's why you chose to fight as Zechs Marquis.
[Scene: Space. ]
Solider: The escort mobile dolls have been destroyed Sir.
Tubarov: But we sent the target number of mobile dolls to earth. Luxemburg will surely fall.
[Shows mobile doll carriers entering atmosphere. ]
Zechs: Tha's my limit. Luxemburg, dont' be defeated.
[Scene: Mobile dolls attacking Luxemburg. Virgo model. ]
Soldier: Oh no, that's gotta be one of those new mobile dolls. Ahhh! What's that? Gundam 01! What's it doing here?
Noin: They started fighting in Luxemburg. I thought you wanted to go.
Quatre: Heero talked me out of going. I'll stay here and protect Ms. Relena on his behalf.
Noin: Maybe we're being overcautious, but if anything were to happen to Ms. Relena I couldn't bear to see Zechs again.
Solider: We just received an anonymous call that Ms. Relena's car is about to be attacked by mobile dolls conducting a fake test flight.
[Scene: Relena's car is driving along. ]
Pagan: Ms. Relena... I apologize for picking you up without you asking me to.
Relena: Don't worry about it Pagan.
Pagan: You don't seem too pleased. Didn't the conference go well?
[Pagan spots mobile suit carrier in background. ]
Pagan: What's that? Mobile dolls?
Relena gasps as the car is attacked and crahsed. Relena gets out and goes to see if Pagan is okay. ]
Relena: Pagan... say something... Pagan?
[Virgos land in the street and aim at Relena. A white Taurus arrives and destroys the Virgo, shows Noin in cockpit. ]
[Two more Virgos attack]
Relena: Ms. Noin!
[They are destroyed by a smiling Quatre. Pagan is rolled away on a stretcher. ]
Relena: I can make a well thought out speech but I can't do a single thing to save one person. It's true isn't it?! I'm always the one being saved, aren't I? Is it possible to have peace without using force? Maybe pacifism is nothing more than nonsense mouthed off by those are unable to fight!
[Quatre grabs Relena's shaking hand. ]
Quatre: Get ahold of yourself! What do you expect us to do if you keep talking like that? You have to keep going down the path you believe in. People like us don't know any better than to fight. However you have the abliity to prove us with a peaceful place to live in. Tha's what Heero, Ms. Noin and I truly believe.
Relena: In peace? A place to live?
Quatre: That's right. One day you'll achieve peace and we'll continue to fight with that in mind.
Relena: We will achieve that peace on day.
[She looks up at the Taurus. ]
[Scene: Luxemburg. ]
[Virgos are attacking Wing. It gets hit in the knee and falls, Virgos begin to approach it. ]
Voice: Don't die... don't give up ... you musn't die yet...
[Shows Treize in a dark room.
Treize: Fight... keep fighting, prolong your life kid. You pilots musn't die yet..
