NEW YORK -- Seattle Mariners third baseman Mike Blowers was named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending July 30.
Blowers led the league with a 1.045 slugging percentage. He also tied for the league lead with a .500 batting average, three home runs and 11 RBI.
California's Garret Anderson was the runner-up for the weekly honor. Also receiving consideration was Anderson's teammate Tim Salmon, Baltimore's Rafael Palmeiro and Boston's Tim Wakefield.
This is the first weekly award of Blowers' career.
