Born in Quitman, Texas on March 3, 1973 at 5:29 am. Both parents and their
mothers are redheads, but I was born with coal-black hair. Turned red
soon, though. Grew up in a small town in North East Texas called Emory,
where I lived until the day after my graduation from High School.
Graduated Valedictorian of the 1991 class, went to A&M for two semesters,
then decided there were better things to do with my mind besides listening
to some Prof's opinions. Moved to Bandera, Tx (just outside of San
Antonio) in July 1995 and have lived in the Hill Country ever since.
Got my nick from a friend in Junior High, it's a combo of my first and
middle names, Leigh Ann. Before that my nick was mold, as in the fungus.
My Monkees fanaticism began in 1985, approximately nine months before
Monkeemania hit it's peak in the 80's. Davy was my fave at first, then
Micky, Peter, and finally, Mike, who has remained my fave to this day.
Like many of you, I was known as the "Monkee-Girl" in my school, and I
strove to keep my good image intact. It was hard, growing up in a small
town of approximately 800 people, to be different, but I embraced it and
soon people began to respect me. The Monkees helped me to be an
individual, and find my own personality in the middle of adversity.
Eighth grade saw me getting into more intellectual pursuits, such as Monty
Python's Flying Circus. Once again, I was the only person interested in
such a phenomenon, and I was distanced from my peers. I began to like the
fact that I was unique. Everyone in my school knew *who* I was, even if
they didn't like me. Name recognition became a focal point for me. My
tastes in clothing expanded at this point; I began wearing tie-dyed shirts,
headbands, granny glasses. Shop clerks used to give me odd looks when I
would ask about Peace Symbol jewelry and clothing. Now it's commonplace.
Next venture was the Beatles, of course. At my senior prom, it was
prophesied that one day I would be the curator for the Beatles' Museum; I
think Mystic might have something to say about that, though <G> The
Beatles helped me through some of the worst years of my life - High School.
I wasn't extremely popular because of my tastes, people were jealous
because I made good grades, and I was dealing with the heart break of first
love. Enter John, Paul, George, and Ringo... saved my life, just as the
Monkees had a few years prior.
I had known the man who was to become my husband most of my life. We were
merely acquaintances until my best friend wanted me to go on her first date
with him. I thought it was strange, but they both insisted. Needless to
say, they didn't work out, he and I started going out, and the rest is
history. That was nine years ago, and we will be celebrating our 7th
wedding anniversary on August 27.
We have no children, but lots of pets: nine cats - Turbo, BK, Ace, Pooky,
Little Bit, Dante, Tante, Bob, and Kat; a Golden Retriever, Ana, and a Sun
Conure (parrot) named Baby. We lost our home last June in a massive
1,000-year flood. We then bought a parcel of land on the tallest hill
between here and San Antonio!! No more floods for us! One day we hope to
build our own house out of the Limestone rocks that we are inundated with
here.
Other interests of mine are: wildlife and rehabilitation thereof,
gardening, house plants, storm chasing, crochet, reading (especially true
stories), paranormal phenomenons, surfing the net, talking about
philosophies and beliefs, hiking, and being with my husband.
