Michael Nesmith: Not just a woolhat
By Mina Nezwalker
Well, Michael Nesmith was a Monkee. Well DUH. That is like the first
thing
people will say if you mention Michael Nesmith. The answer I get if I
ask
about Michael is "Isn't he the one with the Accent and the Green Hat?"
Well....... Technically yes. But Michael is a lot more than that. He is
the
(most of the time) practical one. He is the "leader". He was always the
one
to go "We could play." Let's take a look at some of Mike's different
roles
on the Monkees
Monkee See, Monkee Die: 1) Mike tries to stand up to Mr Babbitt "We'll
pay
the rent when you fix the thing you promised to fix!"
2) Mike tries to get help by attracting a carrier pigeon with bread,
then a
St. Bernard with bones.
3) Mike is the only one not to vote for hysteria.
Monkee vs. Machine: 1) Mike tries to cheer Peter up. Then goes off to
get
back at the machine that humiliated Peter. 2) Really wants to help Pop
Harper get his ideas made into toys.
The Success Story: 1) Tries to convince Davy's grandfather to let Davy
stay in America. **Special Note: You should watch this episode to see
Mike
groom his woolhat by trimming the pom-pom**
I think I will continue this article next month. Until then, here is a
list
of Mike episodes you should watch. They are measured on the "Nez Scale"
regarding how much Mike there is. the scale is between one to four:
Monkee vs. Machine *** 1/2 (also a great Peter scene with the computer)
I've Got A Little Song Here ****
Monkees On The Line (Newbeau's MonkeeLove series is based on this
episode) ***
Monkee Mayor (I've never seen, but from reading the synopsis it is a
Mike
episode)
Monkees In Texas ***
Monkees Christmas Show ***
Fairy Tale *** 1/2 (Mike steals the show in this episode as Princes
Gwen)
Till next time Peace, Love and woolhats,
