Why Did Mike NEVER Get the Girl?

On the Monkees Davy almost always got the girl. A couple of time Micky
and
Peter both got love interests too. But Mike NEVER, EVER got to fall in
love
and keep the girl. He had maybe three or four possible love interests.
Let's list:
The dance teacher from Dance, Monkees, Dance (She wasn't interested)
April Conquest from Monkee Get Out More Dirt (She ended up choosing
Peter,
then dumped him for Freddie Fox the third)
The Biker Chick from Wild Monkees (she ended up going back to her
ex-boyfriend)
There are several other women who Mike pursued/had sexual tension, but
they
didn't really count. Why would Mike never get the girl? I can think of
two
theories:
1) Since Mike had a wife and child, it would be better not to have him
as a
love interest.
2) He was the "father figure" and the others were suppose to act like
teenagers.
I don't think either of those reasons are really reasonable, Mike should
have been able to get the girl at least once. But then, I bet a lot of
Nezhead love to imagine themselves as Mike's one true love.
