Chapter 7: “Express Yourself”

Liz watched Lucky's back for what seemed like hours, to no avail. No movement.
No words. No tears. No emotion. Nothing. She shifted in the chair and ran her
hand through her hair. This was impossible. She knew Lucky didn't like to
discuss stuff… but why wouldn't he talk to HER? She had always been there for
him, hadn't she?

She shook her head and laughed to herself. There she was, thinking about herself
again when it was Lucky that needed help. She fixated her gaze back onto his
form, and waited again.

---

Lucky stared at the wall, not blinking for an hour. He didn't notice, nor did he
mind. He was aware that Liz was still there. But he didn't want to talk to her.
He didn't want to talk to anyone. He just needed to sort things out… to make it
all make sense somehow. If that was even possible. How could he make sense out
of this? It was totally insane, and done with no remorse or care.

He felt the tears coming to the surface again and pushed them back down. No. He
would not succumb to that. There had to be a better way. He didn't need tears,
or Liz, or Luke or anyone. He could do this on his own. He would do this on his
own.

A voice broke through his thought, and unfortunately took him back to reality.

---

“Hi Liz.” Laura said as she stepped cautiously into the room. Liz was curled up
in a ball on the chair, her eyes fixated on Lucky, and he had his back to her,
staring at the wall.

Laura frowned and took a deep breath. “Hello Lucky.” No answer. Liz looked up at
her, and gave her kind of a bewildered look. “He won't talk,” She commented,
then went back to looking at Lucky.

Laura walked closer to the bed and took in her son's appearance. His eyes were
red and stared hard at the wall. His hair was tousled and in his face. He looked
sick and unwell, pale and in pain. Laura bit her lip and held back tears that
were so familiar to her. She had to hold it together. Her son needed her.
