Chapter 40: Caroline's Mamas
Sally and Virginia stood next to each other on the elevator. It was an awkward
moment. The entire drive was awkward. Sally thought back to the moment Henry
told her Virginia was coming. Henry told her that Carly Roberts was Caroline
Benson and that Virginia needed to be picked up from the airport and driven
there. Sally was still pretty unclear on the details and was too afraid to ask
for them, knowing how upsetting it could turn out to be for Virginia. The
elevator doors opened and Sally and Virginia walked out together.
Virginia: Do you know where Caroline is, Sally?
Sally: Yeah, I could take you to her.
They started to walk when Virginia asked her something.
Virginia: You haven't met Caroline here, have you?
Sally: No, I know her fiancé has asked about her, knowing we were neighbors but
it didn't ring a bell.
Virginia: How did he know you used to live by us?
Sally: He found out from Henry. Apparently they all ran into each other once
and Caroline told Tony they were ex-neighbors. Tony figured out Henry was my
son when he remembered his last name was Corinthos too.
Virginia: Tony is his name? What's his last name?
Sally: Jones. Tony Jones, a neurosurgeon here at General Hospital.
Sally saw the disturbed look on her face.
Sally: Virginia, what is it?
Virginia: Tony Jones is Bobbie's husband.
Sally: No, ex-husband. They divorced over a year ago.
Virginia: Why?
Sally hesitated for a moment, unsure if she should say anything, but she replied
anyway.
Sally: Carly… sorry, Caroline was sleeping with Tony so they got divorced.
Virginia: Oh my God… Caroline, what have you done?
Sally: What?
Virginia: Nothing.
Sally opened a door and there was Bobbie, still in shock from Stefan telling her
that Caroline was her daughter. Then Bobbie noticed Virginia.
Bobbie: Virginia, your here.
Virginia: Hello Bobbie.
The two were silent and then Virginia looked at Sally.
Sally: I'm going to go take care of something.
Sally left them alone, leaving Virginia and Bobbie to talk. Both of them could
tell the other knew what was going on.
Bobbie: Virginia, what are you doing here?
Virginia: I was called by Henry Corinthos who told me about Caroline collapsing.
He also told me you knew her.
Bobbie: I didn't know her identity until a few hours ago.
Virginia: But why didn't Luke say anything?
Bobbie was silent.
Virginia: Oh… because of your ex-husband.
Bobbie: Luke told me she was dead because he didn't want to hurt my feelings.
He didn't want me to know my own daughter tracked me down so she could sleep
with my husband.
Virginia: Oh Bobbie, I am so sorry you had to go through with all of this. I
wish I would have known.
Bobbie: I really wish I had known. We haven't had the best relationship for the
past year. We've both said some awful things.
Virginia: Bobbie… I know you are angry and mad, and you have every right to be,
but please, help Caroline and our grandchild.
Bobbie: I donated some blood earlier, I'm not sure if it'll be enough though. I
also know Luke did too.
Virginia: What was it? The baby, I mean.
Bobbie: It was a boy.
Virginia started to get tears in her eyes.
Virginia: Oh God, please let them be all right.
~^~
Nikolas looked in disbelief as his uncle told him everything about Caroline.
They were both in the hospital lobby and Stefan was waiting to see a reaction.
Nikolas: You mean you knew Carly Roberts was Bobbie's daughter all this time and
you didn't say anything? Why not?
Stefan didn't want to admit why. The reasons were purely sinister. Now he saw
them as foolish and wished he realized sooner how much he cared for her. Then
he wouldn't have to tell Barbara why he didn't say anything and then she
wouldn't hate him for it. Stefan took a deep breath and replied.
Stefan: At the time I was using Barbara to get to Luke. When I realized Carly
was her daughter, I kept quiet because I didn't want Barbara to know I was
spying on them. She might have found me offensive and the entire opportunity
would have been missed.
Nikolas: So you married Bobbie to get to Luke. I thought you loved her.
Stefan: I do.
Nikolas: Wait, you love her?
Stefan: Very much. That was why I told her the truth. I could never live
myself if I knew I took away Barbara's only chance to know her daughter.
Nikolas: What about Katherine?
Stefan: I don't love her. I was infatuated with her but now I feel nothing.
Nikolas was about to go on when Sarah walked up to him.
Sarah: Hey Nikolas.
Nikolas: Hey Sarah.
Nikolas wondered what she was doing. Couldn't she tell he and his uncle were
have a private conversation?
Sarah: I was wondering if you wanted to do something later. Maybe go to a
movie?
Stefan couldn't believe his ears. Movie? He gave Nikolas a disapproving look
and Nikolas looked at that disapproving look and made his decision.
Nikolas: Sure, I'd love to. What time?
Sarah: Titanic is starting at 7:00.
Nikolas: Okay, I'll see you then.
Sarah went away leaving Stefan and Nikolas alone again.
Stefan: Titanic? They made a movie of that tragedy?
Nikolas: Apparently… I'm going to go home, we'll continue this conversation
later.
Stefan: That is expectable.
Stefan felt a shiver down his spine when he realized how American Nikolas was
starting to sound. Nikolas left without saying goodbye. He would have to find
some more normal clothes for the Movie Theater. That, and he'd have to find out
where it was. Then he started to wonder what customs were involved in movie
theaters. There was popcorn involved. He decided just to play it by ear later,
he had more important things to think about. He was not pleased with this
situation at all.
Instead of going out the front exit, he went to the elevators. He wanted to see
Bobbie quickly and give her his condolences and see if he could help in anyway.
