Chapter Two

(Two Months before Luke arrived home)

Lucky woke up in a dark room, alone. He got up and tried the door, but it was
locked. He started banging on it, hoping someone was outside listening and
shortly after, an old man came in with a strap. Lucky slowly backed away,
searching for something to use against him, but there was nothing around. The
old man came in further, locked the door behind him, and pushed Lucky into a
chair, still having a firm grip on the strap.

In the faint light coming from the window, Lucky recognized the resemblance this
man had to his father. It was like an exact duplicate, except 20 years older. He
had short gray hair going in every direction it possibly could, the same long,
lanky sort of figure yet he presented himself as one of authority that should
not be messed with, and he wore a hoop earring in his left ear… a trademark of
his dad's. Lucky felt as if he were in the twilight zone or some bad nightmare
that he hasn't managed to wake up from yet. "Where am I?" Lucky asked this
figure before him.

"You're home, grandson." came a hoarse reply. Lucky smelled a hint of stale
cigar smoke and beer on his breath. The vision of Luke just got stronger for
Lucky.

Lucky was in shock when he heard the word grandson, and Lorenzo took that
opportunity to tie Lucky's hands to the back of the chair. By the time Lucky
realized what was happening and startled to struggle, it was too late. In the
midst of his struggle, the chair tipped over and he fell to the ground. Lorenzo
started laughing. "You are as stubborn as your father."

"What do you know of my father!" Lucky screamed as he continued to try to break
free of the rope.

"My boy, I thought you made the connection by now. I am Lorenzo Spencer, but you
may call me grandfather or grandpa. Whichever you are more comfortable with."
Lorenzo lifted up Lucky's chair so he was sitting again.

"How about if I call you grandbastard?" Lucky attempted to spit on him, but
Lorenzo stepped away.

Lorenzo swung the strap and hit Lucky right on his shoulder. "I see I'm going to
have to teach you some respect."

"Respect from a man who left his family? That's a joke." screamed Lucky. "And
besides. My dad taught me to respect people who respect me."

Lorenzo started hitting Lucky again with the strap and with the last hit,
knocked him back down to the ground. Lucky let out a scream as he hit his head
when he fell. "Your father may not have taught you how to respect your elders,
but I will. This is your home now, Junior, and there are a few rules you are
going to have to follow if you don't want this to happen every night." Lorenzo's
pager started going off. He cursed it as he looked back at Lucky. "Well, duty
calls. While I'm out catching criminals, you'd be wise to consider your
situation thoroughly."

Lorenzo left and locked the door behind him. Lucky continued to try to get
loose, but there was no hope. He let out a sigh of frustration before
whispering, "The only criminal I see around here is you."

-----------------------

A half-hour later, Lucky heard someone attempting to unlock the door, and he
prepared for another confrontation with Lorenzo. Instead, a boy about his age
came in. He looked a lot like Lucky in a way, but had dark, jet-black hair and
had a timidness about him. He locked the door behind him and quietly went over
to Lucky, helping him up. He then untied the rope so Lucky could walk around.
"Hi. My name is Will." the boy introduced himself with a quiet voice.

"I'm Lucky," came Lucky's reply.

"I wouldn't say that considering your situation," Will said trying to smile, but
failed.

Lucky tried to hold in his laugh, but couldn't help it. Will backed away as
Lucky tried to extend his hand as a sign of friendship. He noticed that Will had
bruises on his arms and looked as if he was a scared puppy, asking not to be
beaten anymore. "I'm not going to hurt you," Lucky said still holding out his
hand.

Will looked at him closely and believed that Lucky could be trusted. He grabbed
his hand to shake it. Despite the fact that he looked small for his age and
weak, he had a very firm grip. Lucky concluded that the kid was probably scared
out of his mind all of the time, but could act tough when he needed to be. "I'm
sorry that my father did this to you," Will said, his voice barely above a
whisper.

"That's your father? He said he was my grandfather." Lucky was a bit shocked to
see his uncle was no older than he was.

"It's true. Dad has been keeping track of Luke's movements through the years. He
has photos from all different occasions. He said that Luke and Bobbie ran away a
long time ago and he didn't find them until Luke was getting married to some
woman named Jennifer Smith. By that time, he knew that he couldn't try to repair
the relationship that had been destroyed, so instead he just kept up with what
Luke was doing all of these years." Will's reply was much louder and his eyes
even lit up just a little. Lucky could tell that Will had thought a lot about
Luke and Bobbie and wonder if he could use that to get him out of there.

"How much does he know?" Lucky figured that his only advantage right now would
be to get as much information on his grandfather as he could.

"A lot. He has newspaper articles from when Luke got evidence to put Frank Smith
in jail, when he saved Port Charles from freezing, Luke's marriage to Laura, and
Luke becoming mayor. He also has a photo album from different times, like when
you were a baby, some of the places you've been to around the world, and of your
sister. It must be nice to have a family," Will said, his excitement getting the
best of him.

"It was… I mean it is. Has he been planning to kidnap me this whole time?" Lucky
asked.

"No. He said that you were in danger because your father left you like he left
dad a long time ago. He said that Luke will always walk away from his family
when it suits him," Will stated, but didn't sound like he believed it.

"Can you help me escape from here? I need to get word to my dad," Lucky asked
him and praying that Will would help him.

"I… I can't. I'm sorry." Looking at his watch, "I've already been here too long.
If dad finds out that I was here, he'll…" Will quickly leaves as Lucky calls out
his name. Lucky tried to get to the door before Will could lock it, but he
wasn't quick enough. He banged on it until his hands hurt and sat down next to
it, praying his father would come for him, if his father even knew that he was
gone.

Lucky got up from the floor setting back in the chair and wondered what his so-
called grandfather was really like. He heard very little about him and from what
he found out already, Lucky didn't want to know any more. He could almost see
what Luke would do to this bastard when he finally arrived. Lucky looked around
at his prison and noticed a bed and a table against the wall. Lucky walked over
to the bed and lied down. Rubbing his shoulder and the other parts of his body
where the strap hit him. Lucky was trying to think of away out of this mad house
or at least getting a message to Luke.

Lucky must have fallen asleep because the next thing he realized, Lorenzo was
pulling Lucky off the bed and shaking him. "How did you get free?" Lorenzo
yelled and glared at the boy.

"I'm a Spencer. How do you think?" Lucky said with the hate for this man very
relevant.

"Well, I guess you still haven't learned respect because if you did, that remark
wouldn't have come out of your month." Lorenzo grabbed the strap off the bed
where he had thrown it early and slammed Lucky against the wall. He didn't let
up at all and ignored Lucky's cries. When he did stop Lucky's back and legs were
on fire and he could barely move. "Now. I want you to listen up and listen good.
I have a few rules for you to follow. You are to call me grandfather or sir
every time you want something. I was going to let you out of this room and show
you the house, but that has changed. You will stay in here for the rest of the
day and maybe tomorrow. I'll show you the house and your new room, but until
then you are to stay put. I don't want to hear a peep out of you. Understand?"
Lorenzo said glaring at Lucky with cold unloving eyes.

"Yes, Sir." Lucky said fighting the fear that he felt.

"Good. We are finally on the right track. When you do get out. You aren't
allowed to contact or write anyone from your old life. You are now in my care
and I have the papers to prove it. I'm the law in this town and people around
here don't listen to smart mouth punks from New York. All it would get you would
be a beating you would never for get," Lorenzo said. He left Lucky alone then
and all Lucky could do was slide down the wall and cry. He didn't know why he
protected Will. Lucky might even use that to his advantage in getting out of
this mess. Lucky pictured his parents, friends, and family all looking for him.
He grabbed a hold of the idea for dear life. They would find him. Lucky just had
to wait this out like a man.

Lucky slept most of the night but woke up early. He wanted out of this dark room
and wanted to go home. He missed everyone, especially Lizzie. He sat on the bed
and watched the door. It didn't open until a few hours later. Lucky winced at
the light that burst into the room. "Good. You're up." Lorenzo said and motioned
Lucky to follow him.

Lucky walked down the hall and notice the place was small but very well kept. He
was surprise to see pictures of Luke and the rest of his family on the wall.
Lucky was beginning to wonder what this man really wanted. Lucky found Will
sitting at the table with breakfast all ready on the table. The kitchen was well
kept and very neat. The cabinets were white and the wallpaper was yellow with
various different objects on it. The floor was white with little green squares
in different place. Lucky almost thought this place could be normal if it wasn't
for his grandfather. "Sit down," Lorenzo demanded.

Lucky sat down slowly and waited for the next order. "Will, this is Lucky. He
will be staying with us for awhile. I want you to show him the ropes around here
and he will help you with the housework. I have asked Tony to stop by and stay
with you both today. I have to work on a case and I don't want Lucky alone just
yet," Lorenzo said. "And you. Tony will tell me if you mess up once. So, watch
what you say and do. He was one of the men that help me save you from your
father. He isn't going to listen to anything you say. So, forget about trying. I
have had the phones cut off. The only phone is my cell phone and Tony's and your
not getting it," Lorenzo said.

They ate breakfast in silence and Lucky tried to eat. He hated this place more
and more. He even started to think that maybe his father would never save him at
all. Will showed him his new room and let him get cleaned up. Lucky took a
shower and got dressed. Before Lucky put his shirt on, he got a good look at his
back and chest. The bruises were dark and getting darker. They still hurt but
were livable. Will walked in right then and whispered, "Thanks for not telling
on me. I would have really got it."

"Don't worry about it. No use both of us getting beat," Lucky said. "What are we
supposed to do around here anyway?"

"Clean the house and take care of the yard. If we work quickly maybe we will
have time to watch TV or play a game," Will said.

"Don't you have any friends?" Lucky asked.

"School friends, but I don't see them much in the summer. Tony and Bob have
kids. I even go over to their house sometimes, but mostly I just take care of
the house and spent the rest of my time alone," Will said. "Come on. I want to
watch this movie later and we have a lot to get done before then."

Lucky and Will worked on the house all morning. Tony watched the boy's like a
hawk. Lucky knew it was him that Tony was watching and Lucky didn't like it.
Tony was a big burly man with no neck and a balding head. Lucky didn't like him
at all and he tried not to show it. He figured Lorenzo wouldn't approve of the
attitude and Lucky was going to play this game for while. He was looking for his
chance to get a message through to his family.

Will and Lucky ate lunch and watched the movie in the afternoon. Lucky noticed
that Will didn't say much and hardly looked anyone in the eye. He felt sorry for
his uncle and was determined to save them both.
