Chapter 3
(Fast-forward two months)
Luke got off of the phone after having no leads, so far, as to where his father
was holding Lucky. He looked over at the couch where Laura was sitting, holding
a picture of Lucky. She started shaking from the fear of what Lucky might be
going through at this moment, or what he must have been going through for the
passed two months. ‘Why didn't I know he wasn't with Luke? Why couldn't I
sense my baby boy was in trouble?' she asked herself.
Luke went over to the couch and wrapped his arms around Laura to try to comfort
her a little. He knew exactly what she was thinking and said, "It's not your
fault."
Laura looked at her husband, knowing he could read her mind. "How can you say
this isn't my fault? Lucky wouldn't be in this situation right now if…" she
said quietly.
"If I didn't walk out without telling you," he said just as quietly. "I'm as
much to blame for this as you are, baby. You can't carry this burden all
alone."
"It was my secrets that drove you away," Laura said, more persistently.
"Let's not go there right now. Let's just focus on finding Lucky," Luke said,
trying to get off of this topic.
"Any leads?" she asked, knowing what the answer was already.
"Not one," he said, trying to keep the fear out of his voice. "I called a lot
of people who I thought might know where my old man has taken him, but I got
nowhere. I don't even know where he's been living all of these years. I didn't
even know he was still living."
Laura looked at her husband and asked the one question they were both avoiding.
"You don't think he'd hurt Lucky, do you?"
"I don't know, baby. I just don't know," Luke replied.
----------------------
Lucky woke up in the same bed he had woken up in for the past two months. He
slowly got up, rubbing the parts of his back he could reach, still sore from the
beating he just received the night before. He had tried to hold onto the hope
that his father would come rescue him from this hell, but after two months, he
was losing that hope. He didn't even know if his father knew that he was
missing. For all he knew, Luke still hadn't returned back to Port Charles.
Lucky looked into the mirror, seeing a different person in it. He was tired and
worn from the struggle he had been fighting for these two months. The struggle
was becoming too hard for him to fight, and he was about to concede defeat.
This was what his life had become now. If he could follow Lorenzo's rules for a
while, maybe he could find a way out. Or at least he would be 18 in about a
year and a half and could move on with his life. All he had to do was hang on
for that long.
There was a slight knock on his door and he opened it. It was Lorenzo, who had
walked passed Lucky and entered the room. Lucky closed the door behind him,
knowing that Lorenzo had wanted to speak to him in private by the expression on
his face. Lucky prepared for the worst as he said, "Is there something I can
help you with, Grandfather?"
Lorenzo went over to Lucky's bed and threw his pillow onto the ground. "Why
isn't your bed made?" he said, almost yelling.
"I'm sorry, sir. I just woke up and was about to make it now," Lucky said
quietly.
"I expect you to be up and your bed made earlier from now on," Lorenzo said.
"Of course, sir. It will never happen again," Lucky said, hoping that Lorenzo
had other things on his mind besides beating him.
Lorenzo looked at Lucky and saw that his words were sincere. "I know it won't. I
just came to tell you that Tony will be watching you today since I have a lot of
things to do. Will has some money to go to the store later so he can get the
two of you some ice cream. If you listen to everything Tony says, you will be
able to have it."
"I'll be on my best behavior, Grandfather," Lucky said.
"I trust that you will," Lorenzo said in a voice that told Lucky if he didn't
listen, he would regret it later. "I don't want you leaving the house at all
today. Understood?"
"Yes, sir."
"Good. I have to leave now, but breakfast will be ready in about 15 minutes. I
expect you to be showered, dressed, and your bed to have been made by then,"
Lorenzo said as he left Lucky's room.
------------------
The day went uneventfully so far as Lucky and Will were almost done with their
chores. Tony was sitting on the couch watching a football game. Will asked
Tony if they could finish the rest of the chores later and Tony agreed. Will and
Lucky headed for Will's room to relax for a little while.
Once in Will's room, Lucky collapsed onto the bed. He had been exhausted all
day and was still extremely sore. Will knew that these two months had taken a
toll on Lucky and wanted to find a way to help him. Lucky wasn't used to this
as he was, and Will was scared that Lucky wouldn't be able to take much more of
this. Will approached Lucky and sat on the bed. "What's your father like?" he
asked.
Lucky looked at him, knowing that he had told Will what Luke was like already.
"I've told you that before."
"I know, but I like hearing about him," he replied. Will had grown to love
Lucky's stories about his parents and his family, the adventures they had been
on, and the normal stuff too, like birthdays. He lived his fantasy of having a
family that loved him through Lucky's stories.
"What do you want to know? Want me to tell you about the time I had to leave
Canada and go to Port Charles all by myself while my parents took a different
route entirely?" Lucky asked.
"No. I guess I'd rather hear about what it must be like just to wake up in the
morning to a family like that. Did you wake up to find Luke reading a newspaper
and Laura making breakfast?" Will asked quietly, looking down.
"Mom making breakfast, yeah, but Dad reading a newspaper in the morning… I don't
think I've ever just waken up to that," Lucky said.
"What was Luke doing while your Mom was making breakfast?" Will asked, trying to
get a mental picture in his head.
"Sleeping," Lucky said. Will started to laugh and Lucky joined with him. "It's
the truth. My dad is not what you would call, an ‘early bird'. He would manage
to drag himself out of bed by the time breakfast was all ready on the table.
That's if my Mom didn't have to drag him out of bed herself."
"It must have been really nice to have a family like that," Will said.
"It was," Lucky said, wanting that family back again.
"You don't belong here, Lucky," Will said with determination. "You belong with
them."
"How do I get out of here?" Lucky asked, wondering what Will had on his mind.
"If I knew of a way to leave, I would have left a long time ago."
"Do you think you can pass on the ice cream today? When I go to the store, I
could use our ice cream money to call your parents," Will said.
"What would Grandfather do to you when he finds out that you called them?" Lucky
asked, worried that Will would be putting his life in danger.
"It would be worth it to get you away from here. Do you think they would
believe me if I called them?" Will asked, knowing that Luke was not the most
trusting man from the stories Lucky told him.
"Probably not at first, but if you give my dad a message, if he's there, he
would believe you. Just tell him that I'm sorry that I put the song ‘Rise' on
at the club when he was alone. He'll know what you mean and will know that
you've talked to me. And when he believes you, tell him that I love him. Can
you do that?" Lucky asked, regaining some of his hope back.
"Of course," Will replied, glad that he finally found the courage to help Lucky.
"I'll give him your message."
Lucky wrote down his phone number and wished Will good luck as he left. Lucky
headed back for his room, praying that his father was home and would find him.
All he had to do now was wait.
------------------
Luke continued to try to call everyone he knew as Laura started cleaning
everything in the house, trying to keep her mind off of the things that could be
happening to Lucky. Every now and then, Laura would look at Luke and Luke could
only nod his head that he still had no leads. Laura would then go back to her
cleaning. Neither one had spoken to the other since Laura asked if Luke's
father would hurt Lucky. They figured the more that was left unsaid, the less
they would worry. How wrong they both were.
Luke hung up the phone in frustration as he crossed off the last name on his
list. He had gotten no information that could help him. He went over to the
couch and brought his hands to his face in frustration. Just then the phone
rang and Luke immediately picked up before it could ring a second time. "Hello?"
"Is this Luke Spencer?" the voice asked on the other end.
"Yes, it is. Who is this?" Luke asked.
"I know where your son is and he needs your help," Will said, not wanting to
reveal his identity.
"First tell me who you are and then I might actually consider the fact that you
aren't playing a game with me," Luke said, knowing the voice on the other end
was no older than Lucky was.
"This isn't a game, Mr. Spencer. Lucky's in a house right outside of Miami."
"How do I know that what you're telling me is the truth? You can be working for
the bastard that kidnapped him and leading me on some wild goose chase," Luke
said, anger getting control over him.
"Lucky asked me to give you a message. He said to tell you that he was sorry
that he put the song ‘Rise' on at the club when you were alone," Will said,
hoping that was enough to convince Luke that he was telling the truth.
Luke gestured for Laura to get on the other extension, knowing that this kid did
talk to Lucky at some time. Laura immediately ran to the kitchen to grab the
other phone. Once she was on, Luke said, "Okay, kid, my wife is on the line
also. Tell me where my son is."
Will gave him the address and told Luke of a back road that he could take to get
there so he wouldn't be seen. He also told Luke of when Lorenzo would be away
again so that Luke could get Lucky out without too much trouble. Luke and Laura
both thanked him for the information and before Will hung up, he said, "Lucky
also wanted me to tell you that he loved you."
Luke hung up the phone and ran into the kitchen to where Laura was. He picked
her up and swung her around, kissing her at the same time. "I'll find our son
and get him back. I promise you, Angel."
