Chapter Twelve
Prom night
Everyone was running around trying to get ready. Lucky had dropped the van off
at Chris's and made him promise not to drink a drop if he was driving. Chris
agreed and the two parted. Chris did put a cooler of beer in the back of the van
for the party after the prom by the lake. Lucky went back to Sonny's and got
dressed. He picked up the ring he was going to give Liz later on and then headed
down stairs. Brenda was at the bottom and started taking pictures of him.
“Ah, Brenda. Please don't do this,” Lucky asked as he got to the bottom.
“Lucky, you have to have some pictures of your prom night and besides, you look
very handsome in your new tux,” Brenda said, fixing his shirt.
Lucky rolled his eyes and looked at Sonny for help but he only laughed. “You do
look sharp,” Sonny said finally.
“Thanks, Sonny for everything. I promise we will bring your limo back in one
piece,” Lucky said.
“I know you will and besides a lady needs to be treated better than a van ride
on her prom night,” Sonny said, handing him the flowers Lucky got for Liz.
“You made her day when I told her about the limo. I just hope Chris behaves
himself,” Lucky said.
“If he drinks a drop, I want you to get the keys from him. If he argues with
you, sic Johnny on him. I don't want you to get into trouble because of your
friend's pride,” Sonny warned.
“I will. I trust Chris because if I didn't, I would not let him have the keys in
the first place,” Lucky said, as he walked out of the penthouse.
Sonny shook his head and hoped the kid was right. Jason walked in then and said,
“Sonny, you are not going to like this,” Jason said handing him the books from
the club.
Sonny looked them over and asked, “Lucky has been doing this?”
“I'm afraid so. I started to ask questions like you said and this turned up.
Lucky has been selling liquor from the club for months now. He didn't this week
because you have been in the club all week. Luke must have let him do just about
anything he wanted in the back room and didn't watch him too closely,” Jason
said.
“I wouldn't believe it if you didn't hand me this,” Sonny said. “Lucky is not
the type of kid that would do anything like this. What about his friend Chris?”
“Chris is a drunk,” Jason said flatly. “I hope Lucky knows not to let him drive
drunk. He could get into a lot of trouble if that happened.”
“I told Johnny if he sees anyone drinking that drives that van to take the
keys,” Sonny said.
“I hope so,” Jason said. “What about this?” Jason pointed to the books.
“Luke and I will deal with this ourselves. Make sure everyone knows to keep this
quiet. I don't want Lucky to get into trouble from the law on this,” Sonny said
and went to find Brenda.

The kids arrived at the Prom and soon forgot about everything but having fun.
Lucky and Liz were dancing the last dance before everyone headed to the post
prom party at the PC grill. Lucky looked over Liz's shoulder and saw Chris hit
the wall and take a drink. He was drunk and he was heading to the parking lot.
Lucky cursed himself for trusting him and said, “Liz, I got to go stop Chris. He
is drunk and if he gets caught in that van, I'm in hot water,” Lucky said
kissing Liz and running after his friend.
Lucky got to the parking lot too late. All he saw was the van disappear around
the corner. Johnny walked up and asked, “What's wrong?”
“Johnny, we got to go to the lake and get the keys to the van. Chris is drinking
and he won't stop until he is almost gone,” Lucky said.
“Come on. Let’s go get the others. I know a short cut and we can beat them to
the lake,” Johnny said and the two raced off.
Early that night, Sarah had talked Nikolas into going for a drive to talk. They
ended up at the lake and they argued all night. Nikolas got out of the car and
said, “Sarah, I'm going for a walk to cool off and then I'm taking you home. I
can't do this anymore. You blame everyone but yourself for our problems. You did
this to us not Lucky, mother, or grandmother,” Nikolas said and stormed off.
Johnny was pulling the limo beside the Nikolas car. Emily and Sly were in the
far corner and Lucky had just handed Liz the ring. Liz was showing the ring off
to Emily and Lucky had slid over to look out the window. He saw the van coming
down the road but he didn't realize the danger until it was too late. The van
didn't stop it just kept on going. Chris was trying to stop but the brakes
didn't work any more. The van slammed right into the side Lucky was on and when
the van hit the limo, it exploded. The explosion caved in the roof trapping
Lucky on one side and the teens on the other. Johnny was thrown forward and he
hit his head on the windshield. The armor plating saved the limo from blowing up
with the van but the explosion slammed the limo into Nikolas' car, crushing it
like a tin can. Sarah was trapped between the limo and a tree. Seconds before
the Van blew, three kids were thrown from the back of the van and the explosion
pushed them further away. Nikolas was walking back and watched everything in
slow motion. He ran to help using his cell phone he was carrying to call 911.

Nikolas couldn't get to one side of the limo because of the fire the van was
causing. He hoped the gas tank didn't go and he went to his car to help Sarah.
He checked her pulse and his heart dropped. She was dead but he didn't have time
to think about it. He knew lives were still in danger. His trunk was open, so he
grabbed the fire extinguisher and started to put out the fire. He noticed the
limo's license plate and his heart stopped. He knew Lucky and the others went in
Sonny's limo. The fire couldn't be stopped, so he went to the driver's side of
the limo and tried to get him out.
Johnny slowly woke up and looked around. He was hurt but that didn't matter to
him. He knew the kids were in danger so he grabbed the fire extinguisher from
his seat and got out. Nikolas looked at him and asked, “Lucky?” Johnny looked in
the back and notice the roof had caved in. He only saw Emily, Sly and Liz. “Come
on. Help me get them out,” He said to Nikolas trying to get to the teens from
the front. He didn't know if the limo would blow or not so he didn't have much
choice but to move the kids. He hoped it wouldn't because there was no way he
could get to Lucky. Sly woke up before they got Liz out first and he helped her
through then he handed Emily over to Johnny next.
He saw Lucky's hand and checked to see if he was alive. He was felt a pulse but
it was weak. He tried to get to him but it was useless. Sly had no choice but to
leave him. Johnny was putting out the fire. Nikolas put the girls out of the way
and went to check out the three that were thrown. One was dead and he took off
his coat and covered the body. Sly soon joined him and they tried to stop the
bleeding. Fire trunks and other personnel showed up and started to help.
Nikolas stood by the limo after the fire was out wondering if Lucky was alive.
Tears for the dead fell but it was Lucky he was worried about. He felt guilty
for Sarah being dead but he knew there was nothing he could do for her. Mac
walked up and asked, “Who is left in the limo?”
“Lucky Spencer is still trapped,” Nikolas said flatly. Mac heart stopped beating
for a split second and he yelled, “Get a crew in here now. We got one trapped in
the limo and I want him out.” He turned to Nikolas and asked, “You saw what
happened?”
“Yes,” Nikolas said, not taking his eyes off the limo.
“I want to talk to you later,” Mac said looking around at the scene shaking his
head.
V walked up and asked, “What can I do Mac?”
“Go back and talk to the DA or anyone you can get to listen. I want Luke out of
jail now,” Mac ordered dreading telling him that Lucky was hurt with Stefan
Cassadine a few feet way from him. If Lucky ended up dead, Mac saw one thing
happening. Luke killing Stefan because he wouldn't give a damn if he lived or
died any more. Mac walked to the medic that was checking out Lucky's vitals and
asked, “How is he?”
“Alive but we have to get him free fast,” the medic said.
“Do your best and keep me informed,” Mac ordered. While they were trying to get
Lucky free from the limo the first Ambulance arrived at General Hospital. The
first ones contained the kids that were thrown free. Bobbie Spencer took charge
and sent the kids up to surgery. They didn't have time to wait for parent’s
approval they were running out of time. Her heart stopped when Liz and Emily
arrived. Liz hadn't woke up yet but Emily had. She had a cut across her right
eye but other then that she was all right.
Bobbie looked down at Emily and said, “Emily, calm down. You are at GH.”
“Bobbie, Lucky?! They can't get him out of the limo,” She cried. Bobbie's heart
stopped but she fought to keep calm. She worked with the doctor checking out
Emily and when she got the chance, Bobbie went to check on Lucky. Sly was
sitting by Johnny waiting for information on his friends. He had small cuts but
nothing else.
“Bobbie, how is Emily?” he asked.
“She is fine and so is Liz. They are going to keep them over night. What about
Lucky?” she asked.
“They can't get him out because the shell collapsed around him. They are trying
to get him out still,” Sly said.
Sonny walked up right then and looked at Johnny. Johnny got up and walked over
to talk to him. Sonny listen and called Valentine to get Luke out of jail then
he went to check up on Lucky.
Audrey ran into the room and asked, “Bobbie, where is Elisabeth?”
“I'll take you to her,” Bobbie said trying to keep calm. Amy got a chance a few
minutes later and called Laura about the accident. Laura rushed to the hospital
to wait for information on Lucky.

Back at the Lake, they finally got the top of the limo off of Lucky and they
quickly and gently moved him. They got him to the ambulance and Nikolas walked
behind him. He was going to go with Lucky but the medic wasn't going to let him.
Mac saw this and waved his ok. Nikolas smiled a sad smile at Mac and climbed in.
They rushed Lucky to GH. Nikolas sat beside his brother, looking at the pale
face and cringed. Lucky face was covered with blood and part of his skin was
burnt because of the heat the fire. Nikolas grabbed his hand and held it.
“Lucky, don't die, please,” Nikolas begged.

Mac watched as the last ambulance left and wished it could have been more. He
knew the others weren't going home tonight and wanted answers. He walked up to
Garcia and demanded, “All right, What happen here tonight?”
“At first I though it was because the kids drank to much but not this time.
Here, look at this,” Garcia said, holding up a plastic bag.
“A bomb!” Mac said getting a cold feeling about this. “The limo?”
“No. The van was wired and it went off when it hit the limo but I want to know
why would someone put a bomb on a van full of teenagers,” Garcia asked.
“I want to know who rented the van and everything about those kids,” Mac said,
as he watched them remove Sarah out of the car. “I have to go to GH. I have to
tell Audrey about Sarah. I want the list of the other kids as well. Garcia, you
are in charge of this and I don't want it messed up. I'm not going to let this
one go unsolved.” Mac headed to his car dreading this next part of his job.
V walked into the jail with Luke's release papers and wished Mac would have
picked someone else for this job. She wondered if Luke believed in killing the
messenger. Luke was lying on his cot, looking up at the ceiling when she walked
up. “Ah, Mr. Spencer. You have to come with me,” V said trying to hide her fear.
“Babe, don't call me Mr. Spencer and why do you want me?” He asked with sly
smile. “Your son was in a accident tonight. Commissioner Scorpio asked me to
take you to GH,” V said unlocking the cell.
“What? How is he?” Luke yelled, opening the door and glaring down at her.
“I don't know. They didn't get him out of the limo the last time I checked,” V
said, not moving but thought about it.
“Let’s go,” Luke said walking head of her. Stefan heard all of this and hoped
for Lasha's sake that Lucky was all right. He might hate Luke Spencer but
hurting Lucky meant hurting Laura.

The last ambulance arrived with Lucky and everyone rushed around to save him.
Bobbie worked along side the others and forced herself to keep in nurse mode but
all she really wanted to do was break down and cry. Lucky looked pale and he had
lost a lot of blood. He was bleeding internally, beside the burns and cuts on
his face. Lucky had also broken his arm. Bobbie walked into the waiting room and
handed over papers for Laura to sign.
“Since you are here, we need you to sign this,” Bobbie said coldly.
“What are they?” Laura asked looking over the papers.
“Lucky needs to be operated on or he will die. You're the closest thing to a
legal guardian around. If you don't, I will,” Bobbie said grabbing the clipboard
from her.
Laura grabbed it back and signed. “He is my son and I'll sign it. Bobbie how is
he?” Laura asked.
“Do you care?” Bobbie said flatly and walked out.
Sonny had heard this and wanted to know about Lucky, so he walked up and asked,
“Bobbie, could you tell me?”
“Lucky is bad shape. They are moving him now to surgery. We will not know how
bad he is until we open him up. He has lost a lot of blood and because Lucky's
blood is in low supply, when Luke gets here, we will need him to donate some.
Ask him to donate for me and also tell him I'm not going leave Lucky's side. I'm
the only one left now that the other nurses are working on the two that arrived
earlier,” Bobbie said walking away.
Sonny looked at Laura and she said, “Thanks, Sonny.”
“I didn't do it for you. I really care about the kid,” Sonny said and walked to
Brenda and put his arms around her. Johnny was leaning against the wall and
feeling guilty. He thought he could have done something to save Lucky from all
of this but there was nothing he could have done. Sly went to tell Liz and Emily
about Lucky. Nikolas was trying to comfort his mother and they went for a walk.
Sly looked at Nikolas and said, “Thanks for trying to save him tonight. I'll
tell him when he wakes up that you're not as bad as Lucky thinks,” Sly said
holding out his hand.
“Thanks, Sly. Don't tell Liz about Sarah. I think Mac needs to tell them,”
Nikolas said.
“I won't. Nikolas, we tried, but we couldn't save them all,” Sly said.
“I know. I just wish we could have. Do you know how many were in the van?”
Nikolas asked.
“No but Lucky's friend Chris was driving. He is going to take this harder than
any of us,” Sly said walking away to find the girls.

Mac arrived just as Luke did. Luke looked at Mac and demanded, “Where is my
kid?”
“Here somewhere. Come on, let's go find him,” Mac said, as they walked inside.
Amy slowly walked up to Luke and put her arms around him. “I'm glad you're here.
Come on. I need your blood,” Amy said.
“How is Lucky?” Luke asked, stopping her for a second.
“He needs your blood. We are running low and because Lucky lost a lot, and you
and him are the same blood type. Now come on,” Amy said pulling him down the
hall. Luke went with her and she told him the rest on the way.
Mac went to find Audrey. She had just checked up on Liz and was walking to find
out what she could do for the other kids. Mac walked up and said, “Audrey, I
need to talk to you.”
“Yes, Commissioner. I don't think you should talk to Liz right now. She is about
ready to fall asleep finally,” Audrey said.
“No, I will talk to her later. Audrey, Liz wasn't the your only granddaughter
there. Sarah didn't make it,” Mac said not know how to say it with out and just
let it out.
“Sarah?” Audrey said in a croaked voice.
Mac pulled her close to him and held her. “I know this isn't going to make it
better but she died instantly. She didn't suffer at all,” Mac said. Audrey
didn't say anything she just cried and let him hold her close. Leslie heard him
tell her about Sarah and she came over and helped her old friend down the hall
to grieve in peace. Mac smiled at her and watched them go. He hated this part of
his job and went to find the names of the other kids. He had a long night ahead
of him and wished this night were over.
