The senior officers of the U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-D were at their stations on
the bridge. Captain Picard was in his command chair. Counselor Troi and
Commander Riker were at their seats beside him. Data was on Ops and Worf was at
his station. Captain Picard decided to make a log entry
Picard: Captains log stardate 46378.3 The Enterprise on its way back to Earth
after a historical research mission to 1492 earth. The crew and I are looking
forward to having some rest.
Worf: Excuse me Captain. I have been unable to contact starfleet command. They
are not responding to our hails.
Picard: Data?
Data: Something is wrong Captain. I ran a sensor test using earth. According to
these readings there are no life readings.
Riker: What?
Data: According to these readings there is no life on earth.
Picard: Worf?
Worf: There is no evidence of a battle captain. I have run several hails toward
earth. Nobody is responding? I am not getting anything on federation
frequencies.
Picard: Are you getting anything?
Worf: I am getting a signal from Vulcan. According to what I am getting there is
no federation. Vulcan is apparently part of the Romulan Empire.
Picard: Any sign of Romulan crafts?
Worf: There is none.
Picard: Counselor?
Troi: I am not getting anything captain.
Picard: Set course for Earth. We need to find out what happened. Engage.
(The Enterprise set course for earth. The Enterprise orbits earth.) Number one,
you Troi and Data form an away team. We need to find out what happened?
Troi, Riker and Data leave the bridge they head toward the transporter. They
beam down to Earth. When they beam down they notice that The City they are in is
in ruins. They run a scan.
Data: According to these scans it seems that there was a nuclear exchange. The
city was destroyed. There are traces of Radiation in the air. The planet must
have been unable to support life after the attack.
Riker: All life was destroyed?
Data: Correct sir.
Troi: Any idea when the attack happened?
Data: According to these readings the attack happened on December 15, 2042 at
2:25 P.M. and 15 seconds local time. It was raining on that day. And…
Riker: I think that’s enough Data. Clearly the timeline has been changed. We
need to find out how. Let’s split up.
Everyone splits up. A couple of hours they are back on the enterprise. The
senior officers are in the conference lounge.
Picard: Report.
Riker: Apparently there was a nuclear war on Earth in 2042. All life was
destroyed. Apparently the American President decided to start a nuclear war.
Dr. Crusher: Have you learned how the timeline was changed?
Data: We were able to trace the change to the American city of Port Charles in
New York state. The timeline changed there on May 15, 1998.
Picard: Data, Mr. LaForge, make the necessary steps for Time Warp for Port
Charles New York in 1998.
Data: Yes sir.
The Enterprise heads to 1998 Port Charles.
