Chapter 2
Captain's log April 30, 1998 The Enterprise has successfully traveled back to
1998 Earth. The Enterprise is in orbit around Earth. We are investigating an
apparent time in the timeline that has led to end of all life on Earth in 2042.
We were able to determine that the source of the change in the timeline happened
in the small American City of Port Charles. We hope to figure out what caused
the change in the timeline and to restore the current timeline.
Picard finished his log entry. He then got up with the rest of the bridge crew.
They headed into the conference room. A minute later Laforge and Dr. Crusher
joined them. They took their seats.
Picard: Lets get started. Data, were you able to learn anything?
Data: I have scanned all the Port Charles newspapers from this period. Nothing
unusual has been happening? The biggest news event was the kidnapping trial of a
local neurosurgeon named Anthony Jones. He had taken the son of who everyone
though was the local Crime leader. In about 3 hours 15 minutes and 25 seconds
from now a plane carrying that local crime leader and a minor supermodel will
crash. They will be found unharmed after a short search.
Crusher: Supermodel?
Riker: During this time in history they had young beautiful women sell various
items.
Troi: it was the time in history when women were treated as sex objects. Could
the plane crash be the event that changed the timeline? Maybe one of them will
die if they don't get help.
Data: Unlikely. I ran a computer search. Neither one of them has an effect on
history.
Picard: We need to be sure what the event is. If we interfere in the wrong event
then the resulting change in the timeline might be worse. Since we have traveled
in time to handle a timeline problem I am allowed to tell you about a secret
starfleet project known as the WSB-DVX project. What I am to tell you is not to
leave this room. It is highly classified.
Everyone in the room nods their head.
Riker: We understand sir.
Picard: When the secret of Time travel was discovered Starfleet command and the
federation council held an emergency meeting. It was decided that Starfleet
would train a select group of Historians. They would go back in time and keep an
eye on things. Their mission is to make sure that the timeline is being
maintained.
Worf: its clear that they have failed.
Picard: It is not an easy job. They have to watch thousands of events. And even
a minor change could effect history. Number one, Counselor I wish for you to
meet the field historian for Port Charles. I want you three to work together to
figure out what is going on. The rest of us will take care of things back on the
ship. Computer request information on the field historian for 1998 Port Charles
New York.
Computer: That information is classified. Please enter proper code.
Picard: Picard Alfa 21234
Computer: Code accepted.
The computer displays the information on the field historian.
Picard: Now that you have the information you need. You two have to change into
proper clothes. Good luck.
Everyone leaves. Troi and Riker change into 20th clothes. They head toward the
transporter.
Riker: Energize.
Riker and Troi transport down to Port Charles. They head to the place where the
field historian lives. They knock on the door. A woman opens the door.
Woman: Can I help you?
Riker: WE need to speak to you. I am commander Riker of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
We have a problem with the timeline.
The woman looks at Riker in shock. She had never expected to see a Starfleet
officer at her house.
Woman: Come on in. (Troi and Riker come into her house. The woman recognizes
Troi.) Deanna is that you?
Troi: Hello Robin. I have missed you. It’s too bad that it takes a timeline
problem for us to see each other.
Robin Scorpio and Deanna Troi hug. After they hug then discuss what is going on.
