Chapter 7
Robin was on her way to sickbay to be examined by Dr. Crusher. Robin knew that
Dr. Crusher would have questions about her health. She arrived at Sickbay. She
came up to Dr. Crusher.
Crusher: Why don't you sit down and I will give you a quick examination.
(Crusher used the medical Tricorder on Robin. She scanned Robin's body. The
Tricorder registered something unusual. Crusher looked at Robin) Excuse me
Robin. I have to check something.
Crusher walked over to the computer. She checked the computer for information.
When she got the results, she looked at Robin.
Robin: Something wrong?
Crusher: You are on the HIV protocol? I have never met anyone who is HIV
positive.
Robin knew that this would come up. In 2001 the cure for HIV was discovered. By
2150 HIV was wiped off the planet. Robin explained everything.
Robin: I was HIV positive. While living in the 20th century I met a boy named
Stone Cates. We had unprotected sex. He later died of AIDS. I was tested and I
learned that I was HIV positive. I was able to take the cure and I was able to
clear my body of the HIV.
Crusher: If you took the cure then why do you have traces of the Protocol. You
know what happened to the people on the protocol when the cure was discovered.
Robin: I know. When the protocol was discovered I was already cured. But I had
to pretend to be HIV positive. So I had to face the issue of whether or not to
take the protocol. I decided to go on it. It is the logical decision. But I gave
my medicine to someone who couldn’t afford it and I took sugar pills instead.
But when Dr. Jones kidnapped me I didn't have my sugar pills. I had to pretend
to be worried.
Crusher: Because missing a dosage of the protocol would be dangerous?
Robin: Right. I also got Pneumonia. I was very ill. I spent a week at General
Hospital. They put me on the protocol for real. That is what you are detecting.
It takes six months to clear my body of the traces.
Crusher: I can clear it from your body now. I read your paper in the starfleet
medical journal about HIV and AIDS. I didn't know that you went though it
personally.
Robin: I am currently going though it. Even though I am free of the virus, I
have to still pretend that I am. I have to treat my blood as dangerous and I
have live though the bigotry.
Crusher: Bigotry?
Robin: There are many people who hate HIV positive people. They think that we
are gay or that the HIV is a risk to them. I go though this many times.
Crusher: It must be terrible for you. You are in excellent health. Your lungs
are 85% effective.
Robin: Which is normal for people who breath 20th century air. It damages the
lungs.
Crusher uses some medical equipment on Robin.
Crusher: I have removed the traces of the protocol from your body and your lungs
are 100% effective. You are in perfect health.
Robin: Excellent work Doctor.
Robin heads off to brief Wesley.
