BSB On The American Music Awards
On January 10th, 1999, a lot of people expected it to be the BSB's time to shine at the AMA's. Unfortunately, the only time they made it onto the stage was to perform "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)." Brandy introduced the Boys and a pre-recorded performance of the boys singing "All I Have To Give" played on a screen. It looked as though they were lipsyncing to a tape. Nick did his part and when Brian was singing, a girl ran on stage and grabbed a hold of him. A security guard took her off and the song continued. Then a whole group of girls broke free and charged the boys who ran away. Brian and Howie went one way, Nick, AJ and Kevin went another. Nick, AJ and Kevin came to a ledge and they were surrounded. They jumped and they came down from above onto the stage (very cool). Howie and Brian entered from the wings. They sang a different version of "Everybody" and did a different dance. The camera was spinning and shooting all over the place, jumping angles every two seconds...it made me dizzy. I didn't like that at all. it was really distracting. I got so annoyed I stopped paying attention to what the boys were doing; actually the camera never stayed in one place long enough to see what the boys were doing. At the end of the song, all the female dancers doggy piled on top of the boys. I thought that was a pretty good idea. I can understand why they probably wanted to do something a bit different. They've done this routine so many times, they're probably doing it in their sleep (there's a thought...). All in all, the Boys themselves did an awesome job (from what I could tell). I don't think they chose the camera work. It was a bad choice and took away from the performance.
