It was a calm and quiet day in the (for lack of better word) wacky town of Hazelnut. However, it did not stay placid for long. Pepper Ann and her pals, Milo and Nicky, had just been invited to what may be considered THE biggest party of the year. Peppie's beloved Craig Bean was the host of the party, so she was thrilled.
"Nicky, Milo, what shall I wear?"
"Let's face it Pepper Ann, you wear the same clothes everyday. You have nothing else in your closet except for maybe that hideous dress that your mother bought for you last year." Nicky said.
"She's right PA. You do wear the same clothes everyday."
"Oh yeah. Okay, forget it then."
The friends continued to walk home on the sunny Friday afternoon. Then Pepper Ann stumbled across something shimmering on the ground.
"Ouch! That stumble hurt. But wait, what is this?"
"Pepper Ann, that would be a penny." Nicky said matter-of-factly.
"No! It's a LUCKY penny, Nicky, a LUCKY penny."
When the friends arrived at Pepper Ann's house, they spotted Dieter sitting on the ground in front of the house. He appeared to be crying.
"Dieter, are you all right?" Nicky asked.
"Yah....I am just eating my fromage. Vould you like some?"
"Huh! Dieter! I thought you were crying!"
"Um....No. I vasn't. But dere is a leetle problem."
"What's the problem little fat dude?" Milo said.
"You reeelly think I am fat, Milo?"
"Did I say fat? I meant slim..."
"Ah. Vell, I am happy you feel dat vay."
Dieter explained that he wanted a date for the party. He thought of inviting Gwen Mezzrow or Tessa or possibly Vanessa. But he was unsure. Then, Pepper Ann remembered the new foreign exchange student from Germany who had just flown in the day before. They all decided that the two little Germans would make quite a match. ("Ah YAH! She perfect for me, little Dieter! YAHOO! VE HAVE A MATCH! I VILL NO LONGER BE LONELY AT DEE PARTY!") They all conversed until Pepper Ann's mother opened the door.
"Why hello children. You should come in. It's a bit nippy eh?"
"Sure Mom."
They entered the house. But Dieter decided to go home right away and give little Edelweiss (his soon-to-be date) a call. Unfortunately, he did not have her number. He realized this when he got home, but a pleasant surprise was waiting, and no it wasn't more cheese.
