One-on-One with Topher Grace...
TOPHER GRACE is fresh. Fresh to Hollywood and fresh to acting (he was discovered when a producer saw him in a high
school play), he just finished his freshman year at the University of Southern
California. In fact, he started shooting That '70s Show during the week of
final exams. He won't talk about his grades, but he will dish on his
character, nice guy Eric Foreman.
TUG OF WAR: "Eric's torn between his parents and his friends. It's a self-
liberation thing, and I think every teenager goes through that, so I'm very
much like Eric."
BACK TO THE FUTURE: "I think That '70s Show is a timeless thing. I don't
even say 'groovy.' I just play it like it is some kid today. I mean, I know
how to be an awkward teenage boy. I've spent 18 years with my character."
CRUSHIN' ON DONNA: "Part of me wants it to go on and on like one of those
Ross and Rachel things. But another part of me says, 'Come on, you don't want
them to get together?' But it's out of my hands."
ON FAME: "I haven't told anyone I know that I'm in a sitcom. It's weird.
This all happened in the period of a month. I just fell into it."
WHAT'S WITH 'TOPHER'? "It's the second half of 'Christopher'. I was sick of
being called 'Chris' all the time. You'll say 'Hi! My name's Christopher.'
And they'll say, 'Hi, Chris.' I just wanted to be original. It's a cute
name. You can pet it."
