Amy and Sean met in high school. The began dating and she even accompanied him to Terror Island. Because of the horror that they were faced with during Terror Island, their relationship ended. Sean and Emily met on the beach in the summer of 98. She was ready to compete in the Lifeguard Trainee Tryouts and was very competitive with Sean about winning. Because of Sean's attraction to Emily, he decided to try out as well. Together they trained for the tryouts and started to become really good friends. When the tryouts began he and Emily were at the top of the races until a guy named Brad knocked Emily down and she lost her spot. Sean came in first and Brad came in second. Emily was extremely upset that she lost, but remained happy for Sean. That's when Sean pulled out the charm and talked Casey into giving his lifeguard trainee spot to Emily. Boy, did that work like a charm. She fell for Sean flat out. But Emily didn't come to town without secrets. She held back her family ties in Sunset Beach from Sean because she wasn't ready to face her family. Emily asked Sean to accompany her on the charity cruise and that's when her past came face to face with her. On the crusie it was revealed the Bette was actually Emily's mother. Sean was stunned and couldn't understand why Emily didn't confide in him. He was upset, but he tried to understand Emily's side. Sean also revealed his feelings for Emily on the cruise. He told her he wanted to be more than friends, and she felt the same way. They then, shared their first kiss. Sean's past also came back to haunt him as his ex-girlfriend, Amy Neilsen, was also on the charity cruise and was extremely jealous of Emily and Sean's budding romance. She harrassed Emily throughout the entire cruise. First, cutting up Emily's dinner gown, and then spilling something on her during dinner. Sean didn't take to the harrassing lightly and almost came to blows with Amy's date, who just happened to be Brad. But that's when disaster struck and the S.S. Neptune was hit by a tidal wave. Sean and Emily stuck by each other throughout the entire ordeal. The disaster brought them much closer together

With Emily's family ties revealed, she had no more secrets from Sean. But Amy continued to be a presence in their relationship. All of the teens were heavily involved in the Rosario Jewels mystery and Amy took full advantage of it. Amy's father was killed by the Rosario Jewels curse and Emily was kind enough to let Amy stay with her for awhile. BIG MISTAKE! Amy was still plotting to get Sean, and would stop at nothing! She accidentally found one of the cursed emeralds and put it on a necklace and gave it to Emily as a gift (or so everyone thought). Amy then used her fathers chanting book to put a spell on Emily's emerald causing Emily's eyes to water and go blind at times. Little did Amy know all the power she was enforcing from the chanting, because she put a spell on Emily while she was driving which caused Emily to go blind and the car crash. No one was hurt - but Emily walked away from the crash without her site. Sean remained strong in his love for Emily and is stood by her side at all times. Amy, on the otherhand, is shocked at the power she had and her conscious is getting the best of her. She felt awful, but she still wanted Sean. Luckily, when the Rosario Jewels curse was lifted, so was Emily's blindness. She was able to see again, and her and Sean remained an item, much to Amy's dismay.
