WEEK OF DECEMBER 6, 1999

Monday, December 6, 1999
We'll start out with my new favorite couple next to Casey and Sara (FYI-it used to be Antonio and Gabi), Annie and Jude. So, we last left her crying in his chair, which looked really comfy at the time I was watching this because I was ironing shirts. Anywhozits, being the somewhat gentleman that he can be, he hands her a handkerchief. He's her friend. She has a friend! Yeah, yeah, Maria and she say that they're friends, but they're really quite pre-occupied wth their...er...problems. They almost kiss (grin), but that's interrupted by Amy who demands Annie's help in getting Sean back. But before that, Olivia was yelling at her, because the Sally Field wannabe almost spilled Annie's beans. "Toby" is more than a bit miffed to find out that his two children and Trey have gone after Cole. He nearly spills his beans. It's just a day of nearly spilling beans as you will see with what comes next.

Carmen is caught talking to Ricardo about his walking and she wants to tell Gabi and Antonio. But he says he'll never speak to her again if she does. You think a mother wouldn't have to put up with that and get the kind of respect every mother deserves? Anyway it is quickly covered up by an infamous flimsy excuse. Ricardo wants Antonio to go with Gabi to that little cottage thingy he's got but Antonio has other plans. Ricardo is none too pleased.

Michael has some cardboard cutouts of himself, Antonio, and Vanessa in a wedding scene. I'd like to take the Antonio one home. I don't know, watching this scene made me think about when Virginia had her fantasy of Michael coming out of the box wearing only that big red bow. Anyway, Vanessa's mommy comes back.

Tuesday, December 7, 1999
AJ and Bette stage in intervention for Livvy. She's drunk when they find her. She tells them it's useless. Being a Bette fan I'd like AJ to leave Livvy alone and realize he is in love with Bette. But of course we do not live in a perfect world. If we did James Marsters would be standing next to me waiting on me hand and foot =)

Amy and Annie threaten each other. Again...and again. Greggy gets upset with Jude for snooping around the Richards mansion. Then at the end of the day Jude calls Greggy "Gregory".

Gabi and Carmen are getting along quite nicely. They have a moment. Ricardo yells at Antonio in his upset state and insists that Antonio go with Gabi. He finally relents.

Emily tells Brad that he's the only one she can trust and I think he'll tell all soon. He'll have to or she'll find out sooner or later.

Wednesday, December 8, 1999
So, Ricardo has to get Gabi and Antonio out of the house because she finds some insurance stuff. Then later he calls Michael with something important. Antonio finally is going to get Gabi to tell him what's been bothering her.

Annie and Bette scenes. Those are a joy with two such fine actresses as Kathleen Noone and Sarah Buxton. Writing this about these scenes I feel somewhat sentimental in a way. I think it is because I'm listening to country music. Anyway, good scenes. Bette tels Annie she's like Livvy. I think this might make Annie want to change her ways. That and Jude, but of course you know my feelings on that subject.

Livvy walks in on Greggy and Jude talking about their plan, apparently they're working together and that's why Jude is in Sunset Beach. This doesn't deter my opinion of Mr. Cavanaugh. Anyway, Livvy's to drunk to know what was being said and laughs when "Toby" suggests she misses Greggy. Oh yeah, Greggy still has a thing for Ms. Lush.

Thursday, December 9, 1999
So, Casey is smarter than I had thought, he drops Sara a hint when he calls her to throw her off Tess and Derek's trail. She catches on because she's smarter than Meg. Even though that point had nothing to do with what I was talking about.

Carmen knows something is wrong but not about which child of her. Maria and Casey tell Derek not to kill them.

Ricardo shows Michael that he can walk and wants to go tell his brother and wife. Michael says no. Ricardo does plant more ideas into Michael's head. Gabi FINALLY tells Antonio, who immediately feels guilty, that Ricardo knows about them.

Friday, December 10, 1999
Ricardo goes to the cottage and spies on Gabi and Antonio. Gabi thinks Ricardo has forgiven them. Michael is upset to find Ricardo gone and not listening to him.

Carmen goes to Tess and Tess yells at her. So, Carmen knows something is wrong but what now? The cards! Of course! So, she goes to see Meg. She and Sara are searching for clues as to why Casey is in trouble. Maria gets away after Casey and Derek fight and she finds a body. That's not good.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 13, 1999

Monday, December 13, 1999
Ricardo watches Gabi and Antonio have a moment. They've been having a lot of those lately. Good ones too. Anyway, he's watching them meerely for the sake of framing them for his own murder and plants his own blood on Antonio's car. Speaking of his car, what's a priest doing driving an SUV?

Carmen seeks help from Meg and Sara. They're stupid and split up and Sara goes looking at Ben's. She finds more mysterious papers and Tess finds her. We could have told her that would happen. Of course Derek and Tess have kinda been freaking out over Carmen's suspicions. And ... Maria finds a body, who could it be? Ben. That's it. I would have thought it would have been someone else, I'm not sure who, but anyone else than Ben.

Tuesday, December 14, 1999
So, guess who gets captures next?! Yup, Sara, who was dumb enough to search the house herseelf with the knowledge two other people have been taken hostage. Later she gets locked in a closet wth Casey, who has again been knocked out by Derek. Downstairs Ben comes to and Derek finds him and Maria and ties them up after gloating that Derek and Tess are Benjy's parents.

Now, here's a monumental moment: Benjy was nice to Meg today. He gave information about Tess and her secret box. Oooh, and for a few moments, Meg is smart and figures it out.

Ricardo calls Michael and Vanessa and he tells them he caught Gabi and Antonio doing the nasty. Then they hear a gunshot and they go to the cops. Antonio feels something is amiss. After making his phone call Ricardo dons the priest get up and plants a gun at the airport where the same janitor remembers him and promptly reports it. I guess if you need to be blackmailed effectively you should have a cop do it.

Wednesday, December 15, 1999
Meg's moment of being smart was just that, a moment. She gets dumb again and goes to see Derek. She tries to seduce him and tell him she's in love with him. It almost worked until she took the gun away from Derek and tried to force him and Tess into doing what she wanted. But Derek gets the upper hand with her and takes control again. He shoves her in the basement with Ben and Maria. She's very relieved to see Ben. And I'm sure her day would have been brightened up had she just heard Maria say that Ben's heart will always belong to Meg.

Michael and Vanessa have gven their statements to the cops and he is telling her all the suspicious stuff that's happened. Antonio and Gabi are of course shocked to find out Ricardo can walk and is missing. They were naive and thought that he had forgiven them. The DA thinks that they're lying. She's a very cavalier woman. Ricardo is staying at some little fishing cottage and it looks like Francesca's cabin at Big Bear. (By the by, the scene with Francesca eating the pop corn and watching the tape of Antonio and Gabi so intently will always remain a favorite of mine.)

Thursday, December 16, 1999
Okay, Derek and Ben get in a fight, Sara and Casey try and get out of a closet, Tess and Maria get in a fight, and Meg just stands there. Maria gets to tie up Tess and she wins and Ben shoots Derek. The evil twin has perished, for real. I'll miss him. Maria gets to play hero to when she ties up Tess after fighting her. And then there's sweetheart Meg who just stands there calling for Ben.

Oooh, I knew it! Jude is AJ's son. And he feels like he should be recognized as so. Guess that's the reason he's working with Greggy poo.

And Annie seems to feel bad watching Olivia in her drunken stupor try and decorate a Christmas tree. It was a nice change to see in everyone's flaming red-head.

Friday, December 17, 1999
Lets' call it Annie's day of Compassion. She sweeps. She cleans something up. I think you understand the shock in this. Rose sees it too. But she wants Olivia to stop drinking. She feels bad. Then Amy messes it all up when she come in and threatens Annie. But Annie says she's gonna make it stop and Olivia will get her children back.

Antonio and Gabi are being watched by the DA, who has seen the tape of them making love. So has Ricardo's friends at the station. They're later arrested for his murder. Poor Antonio is arrested while giving some little kiddies their first communion. And Ricardo starts feeling a little bad about what he's doing. But later that stops.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 20, 1999

Monday, December 20, 1999
I should first explain that this being the next to last week of the show I will try not to say anything derogatory about any characters or actors.

Annie, Annie, you're showing signs of being the good person we always knew was deep down inside of you. Our favorite redhead goes to see Voo-Doo lady about the potion. Her humanity and compassion from last week has carried over to this week and she wants the potion to wear off of Olivia. Which, it does, after AJ tells Olivia that he can't watch her self destruct any longer. Then he goes and tells Bette of his feelings for her. YEAH! Bette gets to be happy! Then Olivia's drinking stops. Greggy-poo follows Annie to Mrs. Moreau's and then threatens Mrs. M.

Antonio and Gabi are charged with Ricardo's murder and Antonio is shown that dreadful tape. He, being rather intelligent, figures out his brother is blackmailing him and Gabi. Maria and Carmen are shocked to hear it. I'd be too.

Amy, always a schemer, isn't very nice to poor Bradley. She demands he take Emily out of town so that she can have Sean all to herself by the time he gets back. Will she realize by the end of the show that he does not want her. It's just pathetic. Okay, a few derogatory remarks =)

Tuesday, December 21st, 1999
Annie and Gregory, as Tobias, go back at the power plant. Ah, the memories. Annie thinks Tobias wants to talk to her about making her executrix of the will. But then he tells her she's going to prison. Really, though, I don't think the cops would exactly believe a story about a voodoo witch doctor and a potion that causes alcoholism. It's Sunset Beach, yes, but the cops are the brightest bulbs. Then Annie fights with 'Tobias' and pulls off the wig. Surprise!

Antonio tells Gabi his theory of Ricardo's plan and Ricardo is happy his brother and wife are in jail. Then super cop has flashbacks of his childhood. Speaking of which, kudos to casting, they found the perfect little boy to play a young Ricardo. Carmen and Maria are going to clear Antonio's name, (no mention of Gabi), and find Ricardo.

Ben has to tell Benjy that Tess is in jail for doing very bad things. The kid isn't so annoying anymore. That's a good thing.

Wednesday, December 22nd, 1999
Ricardo is still thinking about he and his siblings growing up. Antonio is positive he knows where Ricardo is. Then Spencer, I always knew I liked him, is convinced by Gabi and Antonio to be set free and go find Ricardo. Annie and Gregory argue a bit. Then Jude comes in and Annie runs for help.

At the hospital Sara tells Hank and Joan that everything turned out okay in the end. Then Meg comes and says virtually the same exact thing. Sara sneaks into Casey's hospital room dressed as a nurse and gives him some 'extra special attention'.

Thursday, December 23rd, 1999
Okay, so, Annie figures out that Jude and Gregory were working together. Actually, it's pretty much evident by the situation she's in. They're laughing at her and she's crying. I'm going to miss Annie and Sarah Buxton a lot. Jude and Gregory take care of money matters and then Greggy wants Jude to kill Annie.

Gabi and Antonio are at the cabin, but Ricardo's hiding. He hears their conversation and finally realizes they only made love once. But then the D.A. comes and finds them and arrests Gabi and Ricardo again!. But ... Ricardo emerges!

Olivia finds out about Bette and AJ and gives them her blessing and assures them of their solid friendship. Olivia is only bad when treating Annie poorly.

Emily, no longer so naive, makes her bluff and gets Brad to tell her what happened with the love potion and all. Poor Brad, he no longer has Emily as a friend. She now wants to go look for Sean in Europe.

Friday, December 24th, 1999
Jude can't help but stare at a crying Annie as Gregory prods him to kill her. He looks at her more, then knocks out Greggy. Annie starts to run, but Jude stops her and informs her he is an FBI agent. Then he tells her that he's relocating to Sunset Beach. Annie wants to know why. Because of her. I knew he couldn't be all that bad as to be working with Gregory. Annie, with her issues of self-esteem and skepticism, doesn't believe he actually has feelings for her and that he made love to her, not just sex. So, she punches him. Then he kisses her and all is well in that department. Except that Gregory has awakened and knocks out Jude. While this was going on Olivia and Amy had a confrontation in which Amy revealed that Annie had drugged Olivia. Olivia heads out to the power plant (more memories) and finds Gregory there.

Amy and Emily fight about Sean, what else would they fight about, really. So, Amy gets slapped by Emily. Which, she deserved. It'd been better had Emily decked her though.

Ricardo appears to many a person waiting outside the cabin, then he and D.A. Steele go inside to discuss what was going on with his supposed murder. Ricardo tells her everything he did to his brother and wife, and why. Michael and Vanessa find out about Gabi and Antonio's indiscretions. Ricardo apologizes to people for putting them through hell, but can't forgive Antonio and Gabi. Which is good because it might lead up to a Gabi and Antonio pairing.

That's it for this week, I'll see you next week, with the last Week on the Beach and my farewell message.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 27, 1999

Monday, December 27, 1999
Welcome to the final Week on the Beach.

So, Sara and Casey have a little fun in the hospital. In fact, I think that's the most fun anyone has ever had in a hospital. Tyus finds them and releases Casey. They go to Hank and Joan's and the little garden/gazebo/patio thing. According to Casey, this is one of Sunset Beach's most romantic spots. He gets down on his knee and proposes. Hank and Joan, who have been reminiscing about Kansas, come out when they hear Sara's shrieking. All is good, all is happy, the Cummings roses are still growing. It's like the red rose when Sara sat on the swing and cried last summer when she and Casey broke up. Speaking of, there was a song that played during that montage, could anyone tell me what it was(morganrosella@hotmail.com)? Thanks =)

Olivia, who still loves Gregory, persuades him to give himself up to the police, because then he'll never get to see Caitlin again. After Jude wakes up he handcuffs Gregory. Annie asks Gregory if he ever loved her, and of course, he says no. But before Annie is able to escape, Olivia tells her they need to talk. Which they do.

Maria tells her mama all about Derek and Tess and that they are Benjy's mommy and daddy. Meg confronts Tess and finds out that the Nanny from Hell did have Benjy kidnapped.

Tuesday, December 28, 1999
Ricardo, Antonio, and Gabi face Maria and Carmen at the police station. They talk, not so nicely, in an interrogation room. Gabi tries to get Ricardo to let go of his hate and Antonio reminds him that they'll always be brothers. Hotheaded super cop will have none of it though. Gabi decides to do what she has to do.

Bette and Emily have a nice conversation about being mother and daughter and being happy at the same time. It's sweet. Their relationship is the one all mothers and daughters ought to have.

Maria is now the one confronting Tess. She asks for custody of Benjy. It takes some prodding, but above all, Tess loves her son and does what's best for him. Maria is going to file adoption papers. Meg promises Ben they can be together, just not until tomorrow.

Olivia and Annie start hashing it out over their little problem. Annie tells Olivia that she could have made her a lush forever, but couldn't bring herself to do it. Olivia is most definitely surprised by this. She goes home and sits on the new information. Nice Annie and Jude moment, you know I loved it. Annie asks him for his help.

Wednesday, December 29, 1999
Sara and Casey inform Meg of their engagement. Casey is welcomed to the family and Meg assures them that she and Ben will be together. Sara leaves the room for a moment and finds Casey and Meg hugging. She pulls a funny and makes them think she's jealous. Hank helps bring some of Sara's stuff to Surf Central along with her TV. What do we get? A fantastic montage of Sara's television inspired fantasies: The Jeffersons, Friends, Charlie's Angels, Mary Tyler Moore, and That Girl. By the by, the themes to all of those shows is the music played.

Maria and Ben spend the day telling Benjy about he and Franklin's new room and that he now has two homes to live in. He seems to accept it pretty well, history considered. Ben also has something planned, and after he leaves the house, Meg shows up to see Benjy while Maria goes to see Carmen. Apparently Carmen has seen a vision and knows her daughter will again find love.

Gabi tells Antonio, who's going on a priest retreat, that she's leaving Sunset Beach. She asks him if he still has feelings for her. We know the answer, so I won't bother. Gabi goes to the loft to pack and Ricardo, who visited with mama earlier, offers his help in a nice way. He's quite the gentlemen. Then he goes to confession.

Vanessa's father can't get to Sunset Beach to give her away, big blizzard in Oslo and all. So, super Doc Tyus comes in and saves the day. It's nice to see him in the final week not as a doctor, but as a character with connections to major players.

Thursday, December 30, 1999
Annie and Jude again make love. I love his red sheets. I have red blinds, but not red sheets. I do believe it's an idea that's time has come. Anyway, Annie's excited by much more than her new boy toy (and who wouldn't be excited about him?). She has a big plan for Olivia, which scares Bette. Bette and AJ come visit, Jude is not AJ's son. Good moments ensue, especially between Annie and Bette. If they didn't have a scene between them I would have been quite upset. Annie and Jude get ready for the wedding of Michael and Vanessa. Annie's mind starts wandering as she's in Jude's arms and what do we get? More fantasies! A whole sequence of all of Annie's move beloved fantasies from the past 3 years. I love the writers for giving us this and the editors who put the montages together rock!

Olivia visits Gregory. She tells him she misses him when he was kind Tobias. He did love her and probably still does. He says he does have a heart. Olivia goes and sits by the Christmas tree and promises that her children will have their presents. Then, like magic, Caitlin and Trey are at the door.

Amy realizes that Sean will never be hers and her good friend Brad offers her a place to live. And we finally get an explanation as to why Brad likes Amy, besides her ample assets.

Antonio and Ricardo make up, even though there is quite a ways to go.

According to Carmen, the man Maria will find love with is Ben, because she kept hearing the word English. Maria is upset and Carmen leaves. Then Maria meets a man along the path of the beach. They start to talk and introduce themselves, and wouldn't you know it ... his name is Ross English, a widower with a five year old daughter. It's nice Maria has someone at the end.

Right before the wedding ceremony takes place for Michael and Vanessa, Ben asks Meg to marry him that day.

FYI: I have the radio on right now and I swear I hear the voice of Russell Meeks (He appeared way back in January of 1999, then again in March as a school mate of Annie's.) the Pencil Necked Geek doing a commercial for E-Campus.com.

Friday, December 31, 1999
The last day...

Caitlin and Trey are there for Olivia and there is a happy family reunion for them, as well as Sean, who has Emily back. Jude comes by and informs Olivia that it was not him who instigated bringing back her children. While everyone is at the wedding, Cole comes back to Caitlin. As the wedding is nearly starting, Gabi tells Vanessa she'll be leaving, and Vanessa says she'll miss her friend.

Ben, proposing in front of the guests, wants to make it a double wedding. Michael has consented and Meg goes to ask Vanessa. While on her way she runs into Maria, who is a good friend, and says that she's okay with it. Someone might not be as Maria talks to Annie. I wanted a scene between them too. And a scene between Meg and Annie. Which they get, after Vanessa says yes to the double wedding. Annie comes in tells a skeptical Meg congratulations and that she admires her and she looks lovely. Then, in pure Annie fashion, she warns Meg not to hurt Ben, or there will be hell to pay. Annie runs into Jude and Olivia. Jude goes inside and Olivia thanks Annie for what she did. They cause a bit of a stir when they walk into the chapel together.

Bette and AJ go to light a candle and are approached by Amy and Brad. Amy wants to know about Sean and Bette dispenses wonderful advice.

The wedding begins and goes off without a hitch. Everyone is happy. After each couple is pronounced man and wife Meg starts to wake up in Kansas from a three year dream, she's about to marry Tim. Everyone is in the dream, every single character. Olivia and Annie have southern accents, Michael's in a cowboy hat, Benjy is now Tess' puppy who dislikes a flirting Tim. Meg tells everyone about the dream when the doorbell rings. Her "Uncle AJ" gets up to answer it, but she stops him. At the door is an Englishman with a broken car. She knows his name, it's Ben. Meg wakes up in Ben's bed after their first night as man and wife. He assures her that her life in Sunset Beach was not a dream.

So, this is good-bye from me to all of you who read this. I know I'll miss doing this and watching Sunset Beach everyday, the first soap opera I ever watched. Thank you to all of you, every fan, every cast member, every crew member, and every one else who worked so hard on the show. Most everyone who has a column on this page has said it, but we appreciate and will miss you.

The End
