MARCH 4, 1998
James Van Der Beek came by to shoot a little pool and talk about his new show, Dawson's Creek.
CARSON: Alright James. Masturbation, virginity, ecstasy,
lesbianism-what is going on at this high school?
JAMES: Welcome to Dawson's Creek! I think it is condescending
when critics say that these subjects are too heavy for teens.
Teens get it. They know what we're talking about.
CARSON: So how did you get cast on this show?
JAMES: I was actually doing theater here in New York. I was
an English major at Drew University over in Jersey.
Dawson's Creek was one of three auditions I had in one day, and
it just worked out.
CARSON: You guys shoot in North Carolina-do you ever wish you
were here in New York or L.A. were you could work that fame?
JAMES: Not so much work the fame, but just do something other
than eat fried food.
CALLER: Are you going out with anyone in the cast?
JAMES: No. I don't have a girlfriend, but I've been dating a
couple people out in L.A.
CARSON: Yeah! A couple people! So you're not exactly lonely...
JAMES: No...but I don't have a girlfriend. That would be very
cool.
