Drew Discovers Selena is Her Mother
Selena: Oh, Drew. What are you doing?
Drew: It's me, isn't it? Huh? I'm the one that you gave away. I'm the one you won't admit to, right? I'm your daughter!
Selena: Drew, it's not what you think.
Drew: It's not what I think? I'm the picture. This is me. I'm the baby in this picture.
Selena: I thought that was you. I found that in Millennium.
Drew: You found it?
Selena: Yes. I guess you must have left it at the bar. Anyway, I was... I was trying to find you...
Drew: You didn't try to find me, Selena. You never tried to find me.
Selena: Sweetheart, yes...I did. I would never keep any of your photos.
Drew: No, stop, stop, stop. Okay, don't. Don't you... Don't you do this to me anymore, please. Oh, my God. I am so stupid, ain't I? I'm the stupidest person in the world. It was right there. It was right in front of me the whole time, and I didn't see it.
Selena: Baby, you're not stupid at all.
Drew: All those questions I asked you. Where is she? Who is she? What is she like? And you never answered me. You never really answered me.
Selena: I did answer you.
Drew: You said we had a bond...a special bond...and I didn't see it. God, what is the matter with me?
Selena: Honey, there's nothing the matter with you. Drew, you are perfect. You are bright and beautiful, and everything a mother could hope for, sweetheart.
Drew: And that mother is you?
Selena: Yes. I'm your mother.
Drew: You're my mother?
Selena: I'm sorry.
Drew: You're sorry? You're sorry?
Selena: No, I'm sorry that you had to find out like this. I'm sorry that I didn't tell you before. I'm sorry that... I'm sorry for so many things, Drew. I'm so, so sorry.
Drew: No, I don't understand. I don't understand, Selena. Come on. Why didn't you tell me this? Why?
Selena: I did it for you.
Drew: For me?
Selena: Yes, I did it all for you. When you found out you were adopted, when your heart was breaking because you thought your parents had betrayed you, I wanted to give you something. I wanted to make the pain go away, so I created a fantasy. I created something that you could hold on to.
Drew: You created a lie for me!
Selena: That's all I had. I couldn't give you anything else. Oh, God...don't you think I wanted to tell you? But I couldn't. I just wanted to make it better, Drew. I just wanted to make the pain go away for you.
Selena: By giving me a lie, Selena? By creating...giving me an identity that wasn't even real?
Selena: I wanted to give you a mother you could be proud of. I wanted to give you somebody who was good...not some hooker who had her baby taken from her...not some drug addict who ruined her life! You deserved better then that, Drew...and I wanted to give it to you.
Drew: I don't understand this. You were looking for your daughter at Christmastime. You knew, didn't you, Selena? You knew. You knew all those months, right? You know when you saw my baby picture, right?
Selena: Yes, I knew, and I wanted to tell you.
Drew: But what...huh? I was right there! I was right there! You gave me that gift! Remember, you gave me that gift, huh, and you said nothing. You said nothing!
Selena: You didn't even know you were adopted yet. I couldn't do that. I couldn't do that to the memory of your parents.
Drew: Yeah...I guess you couldn't. I guess you couldn't because you're just like them. You're all liars!
