From ABC:
What went on behind the scenes at our AOL chat with "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place"?
It was just as wild as you would imagine. Ryan Reynolds, Richard Ruccolo and Traylor Howard took over the
offices of ABC.com on Wednesday night for a marathon chat. The result was hilarity, hi-jinks and just plain fun.
We can honestly say a good time was had by all.
In separate offices, at three different computers, Rich, Ryan and Traylor kept up communication by yelling to
each other as they were answering questions-- sometimes getting up and running to one of the other's
computers. Most of their responses garnered laughter and shouts from the other two. Rich and Ryan, in
neighboring offices, were especially carrying on. It was like being courtside at a tennis match-- a loud tennis
match.
Of course, we can guess the thing you're all dying to know-- what is Ryan Reynolds like in person? Unlike the
out-going Berg, Ryan is actually a little more shy and quiet than you would expect. But he's just as cute in
person! (His typist is still glowing from the experience!) It was his first time being on a computer, believe it or
not, and after his experience with it, he says he's going to go out and get one because it was so much fun.
Before the chat started, Ryan was sitting in with the online audience, and as a joke he introduced himself to his
chat row -- only no one believed it was him. Run19Go made the astute observation that if Ryan was really who
he said he was, he wouldn't be in the audience-- he'd be on stage. Of course, when he did go on stage, the row
was in for a surprise!
Maybe it was all the Diet Coke he drank, but the enthusiastic Ryan raced around the office a lot, dropping in on
Rich now and then, and Traylor, and running to the host's computer to see all the questions that were coming in.
Periodically, he read through all the email fans sent him during the chat, and answered the letters diligently. He
was genuinely touched by the nice things people wrote to him. And get this -- he says he does answer all his
own fan mail, but he really doesn't get a lot of it. (We find that hard to believe!)
In a neighboring office, Richard Ruccolo ("Pete") admitted to being a little nervous-- after all, this was his first
online chat. In the beginning, he was a little hesitant, and took his time answering questions, and because of
that, didn't always get to put them in on time. But then he quickly got into the swing of things. He loved reading
his email from fans and responded to as many as he could. Whenever he would read an especially flattering or
sweet line from an adoring girl, he would always say, "Awwwww, we have to write her back." (And yes, he's just
as cute in person, too!)
Even though she had been up since 4:15 that morning, Traylor Howard ("Sharon") was her usual energetic self.
She ate her dinner and drank a Coke during the first chat-- when she wasn't laughing at the funny comments
being fired off continuously by Ryan and Rich. She enjoyed checking her email (sorry, folks, all three actors are
off-line now), and even connected with an old friend who had come to the chat. During breaks, we gave her a
tour of the "Two Guys" website, and she was especially interested in the message boards. She was hoping
more girls would write in regarding Sharon (even though she understands the draw of Pete and Berg!), and
says she hopes that girls will identify with Sharon and that Sharon isn't "too harsh" for them.
After the Central time zone chat, we dropped everything to watch the show out here on the West Coast. The
episode, "Two Guys, a Girl and an Apartment," was Traylor and Ryan's favorite one out of all the ones they've
done so far (Rich favors the Celtic game episode). All three watched the show, listening and laughing, like
they'd never seen it before. One of the publicists for Fox was present, and Ryan kept exclaiming (perhaps for
the publicist's benefit?), "We have such a good show!"
And, of course, we agree!
