Unexpected Hero
The hinges gave a last warning and the door crashed open. I hit the "End" button at that exact moment. The expected yelling was not to be, as my father's cold voice washed over me.
< How long does he think he can keep me here? >
Eventually, my dad's tirade ended and he sat down in front of the door, where he'd positioned his chair.
< He doesn't trust me. >
I smiled a bit cynically to myself and crossed my arms over my chest.
< With good reason, I suppose. >
I paced across the room and back and glanced to my dad. He was trying to hide his amusement by biting his lips, but I could see his eyes laughing at me.
< Jerk. >
I frowned and stepped to my previous occupied chair. I slouched into it and worked on avoiding my father's eyes.
< Wish he'd go to sleep or something so I can plan a little surprise. >
I yawned and leaned my head against the back of the chair. I was trying to get the image of Elizabeth worried out of my mind.
**
Next thing I knew, I was waking with a start.
< I must've fallen asleep. >
I couldn't tell how much time had passed, but I was guessing not much, due to the fact that the sun was still in the same place it had been before my little nap. I looked to my dad. He was still in his chair, hunched down a bit, and snoring loudly.
A sound like a car door slamming made me jump. My gaze shot to my dad to see if he'd noticed.
< That's a yes. >
He was standing up now, moving his chair out of the way, and sliding behind the door. He motioned me into the corner of the room. I stood up and lifted my chin, daring him to make me move.
A soft knock sounded on the door.
~*~#~*~#~*~
Liz hears a "click" and the phone line dies
< That's ok I'll just push *69 and call him back. >
She attempts it and ....
"The cellular number you are trying to dial is unavailable at this time."
< What do you mean I can't *69 him? Cellular phone...Lucky doesn't have a cell phone...wait Gram has caller id upstairs in her room. >
Liz takes off up the stairs and throws open the door to her Grandmothers bedroom...runs to the caller id box....
LUKE SPENCER 11.11.98
234-555-1616 cellular 4:10pm
< How do I find a cellular phone? ... What would Lucky do? >
Liz grabs the phone book, flips to the yellow pages and calls the only cellular store in PC.
< Ok time to act Liz - you need to find Lucky. >
"Good Afternoon, PC Cellular how can I help you?" the friendly rep answers.
"Oh my God, thank you for being there, I need to find my husband. He just called my house and his phone got disconnected. I can't call him back, there's no answer. Our son has been kidnapped and he doesn't know. Oh please tell me you can help me find him," Liz says all in one breath hoping to confuse the person on the other end enough to give her the information.
"Of course I can. May I ask who this is?"
"Mrs. Spencer." Liz lied, but wanting it to be true.
"Mrs. Spencer, what is you're husbands cellular phone number?"
"um...243 no 234-555-1616. I'm sorry I'm just worried about.."
"Mrs. Spencer, it's ok I understand. What number are you at right now?"
"I'm at 234-555-9876. His call came in at 4:10pm if that helps you."
"Oh it helps...just a moment here ... yes! Your husband is at 10598 S. Pierson Dr, in Port Charles. Do you know where that is?"
"I think so-"
"I live out there... take Main St to Macbeth, by the beach. Take a left and go about 10 miles. On your right hand side is going to be a huge brick house. The road right after that is Pierson Dr."
"Thank you so much, Marci- I've got to run but you may have saved a very special young man's life. Thank you again."
With that Liz hangs up, grabs her jacket and the keys and runs out the door to the car.
< Ok take main to MacBeth. >
Liz drives quickly while reciting the directions in her head.
< Hold on Lucky I'm almost there, ok here's Pierson. >
With that she turns down the street and speeds until she gets to the 10000 block.
< 10345, 10456, there 10598 I'm here Lucky! >
As she pulls up in the driveway she takes a deep breath.
~*~#~*~#~*~
My mind was whirling in a thousand different directions when dad was turning the knob.
< Elizabeth. >
< Mom. >
< Elizabeth. >
< Nikolas. >
< Elizabeth. >
< The cops. >
My eyes strained to see around the door when it swung inward. A petite figure with beautiful brown hair and piercing sad eyes met my glance.
< Elizabeth! >
My stomach churned as I flicked my gaze to dad.
< What will he do? >
I suddenly ceased to care as Elizabeth hurled herself through the doorway and straight at me. I barely had time to open my arms before she was in them. Her slender arms wrapped tight around my midsection.
< Don't let go. >
My heart was pounding in my ears and I clung to her desperately. I didn't even stop to think that my father was in the room before I lowered my head and kissed her full on the mouth. All my desperation and part of my anger at my father went into that kiss. And Elizabeth didn't resist. She leaned into me, moving her hands to my shoulders.
I pulled back from the kiss, afraid I was hurting her, or scaring her. She didn't allow me to get far. Her right hand on my left cheek guided my head downward again. Her lips whispered across mine. I stilled, leaving the kiss to her. She didn't disappoint.
A loud "Ahem" erupted from the doorway.
~*~#~*~#~*~
I turned around to see who had the nerve to interrupt my kiss to Lucky and I see the reason I was so worried.
Luke was standing in front of the now shut door. His arms were crossed angrily over his chest, although his eyes were light and seemed a little on the merry side.
"LUKE- you better run," I tell him and Lucky laughs slightly- enjoying my sudden anger.
I feel his hold on my waist tighten in a minuscule hug. I squeeze his shoulders lightly. I imagine that my eyes flash when I fix my gaze on Luke.
"Wait a minute, Elizabeth," Luke tries unsuccessfully to calm me.
< I don't want to be calmed. >
"No you wait a minute! How DARE you take HIM. You have a lot of guts to think that you can just disappear and then drop in when you want and interrupt my life. He is MINE - you can't just kidnap him and then tell me to wait a minute when I get upset."
His face pales.
< I don't think he planned this reaction from me. >
Lucky is actually cheering me on. I can hear him whispering softly, yeah Liz- you tell him.
"Elizabeth, we needed to work things out." Luke says trying to justify himself.
"Luke- kidnapping is a federal offense in all 50 states, and don't think I didn't call the cops. We are leaving now- if you want to talk to Lucky- call him - or email him - don't kidnap him." I grab Lucky's hand and start walking towards the door.
"WAIT!" Luke steps in front of the door.
< Oh, you are annoying. >
"GET OUT OF OUR WAY! Don't make me get mad." I threaten a guy that stands a foot taller than me. Oh yeah I can see this would be a fair fight.
"Lucky are you going to let her interrupt our progress."
"Dad- look at your bald head, and look at my beautiful girlfriend. What do you think I am stupid? See ya!" Lucky puts his arm around my waist. I love it- he just called me his girlfriend.
"Your NOT leaving." Luke grabs my arm and before I know what happens Lucky hits him.
~*~#~*~#~*~
< I can't believe he did that! >
My fist had connected with his jaw before I knew what I was doing and we were locked in a tussle.
"Don't ... touch ... Elizabeth!" My words were grunts heard over the muffled sounds of our fight.
< Nobody messes with Elizabeth! >
"Ever!"
I got my arms around him in a faux bear hug and pushed for the wall. We made contact with said wall and fell to the ground.
< Ow. >
"Don't ... punch ... me." His words were calm, even as he elbowed me in the ribs. I struggled for the breath that that move took from me.
< He's strong, for an old guy. >
I threw a backhand into his face and he groaned in pain.
< Good! Let it hurt! >
We were rolling around on the ground, basically bruising each other everywhere we could. A voice intruded on my concentration.
"Lucky Spencer!"
"Luke Spencer!"
< Make that two voices. >
Dad and I froze, looking at each other with panic in our faces. We looked up at Elizabeth...and my mother.
~*~#~*~#~*~
"Luke -get up now!" Laura says ready to strangle her husband.
< Yeah and she tried to reassure me that nothing would happen to Lucky. >
I rush over to Lucky and hold him tight. He's moaning a little under his breath that his ribs hurt, I should be furious with him, fighting, he knows how much I hate that. But he was sticking up for me. I smile and then quickly turn my head and encounter quite the spectacle.
"Lucas Lorenzo Spencer Sr I am going to clobber you as soon as I get you cleaned up. Come on we're going home." Laura practically screams at Luke as she grabs his ear and pulls him out of the cabin.
Lucky and I both laugh. "I really hope you two solved some of this. Lucky I can't take it when you go Missing in Action on me. You can't do that anymore," I lightly scold him.
He smiles, knowing I'm playing. He stands up clutching his ribs. Takes my hand in his, "Come on Angel, lets go home." I interlace my fingers with his and walk out of the cabin happy to have my hero safe with me.
